Happiness presents itself in so many ways

Imagine a world where everyone was happy, there would be no evil, no wars, no negativity, it would be a lovely place to live.

The other night I couldn't get to sleep so started to think of 'happy places' my mind could take me. I went back to places I'd visited whilst travelling, holidays I had enjoyed or moments with friends and family that have stuck with me forever.

I became so indulged with how grateful I felt when thinking of these 'happy things' I decided to abort my mission of trying to sleep, light my favourite Black Coconut Yankee Candle and instead write down the list of all things that make me happy, so here it is…

  • Laughing so hard your belly hurts so much and you can't stand up properly
  • Going to the park with Teddy
  • Drinking ice cold water when you are really thirsty
  • The first sunset of a holiday
  • An empty beach
  • Total silence outside (hard to find)
  • Rain on a glass roof when you are inside
  • The smell of the air just after a heavy thunderstorm
  • The smell of Teddy's paws after he's been playing on the grass
  • Food that melts in your mouth
  • Discovering a new flavour
  • Post-exercise exhaustion and satisfaction
  • Enjoying your job
  • A cup of Yorkshire Gold tea and a sit down after a good days work
  • When someone smiles at you for no apparent reason
  • Being up at the crack of dawn when nobody is around
  • An accidental nap when you least expect it
  • Making someone feel good about themselves
  • Hearing a song you love and haven't heard for ages
  • Reminiscing with friends
  • Family Sunday roasts cooked by Mum and Dad
  • My brother's terrible impressions
  • Listening to my nephew sing and play the guitar
  • Hearing praise when you doubt yourself
  • Knowing there's support when you feel on your own
  • A good tasty curry
  • Pizza and wine with friends
  • Getting to the bottom of a problem
  • A pain-free run (banned by my physio at the moment)
  • Finding something you've lost for ages and you considered gone forever
  • Re-igniting a friendship with someone you've lost touch with
  • A totally selfless act of kindness from a stranger…

This last one occurred just the other day. I found a package on a wall wrapped up with a note on the front and message on the back. A stranger had wrapped up a book and left it for someone to find. It was a random act of kindness and it really made my day!

    Hi Chloe,
You are a lovely person inside and out – what a wonderful list! I enjoyed reading it and love your sense of optimism and sheer enjoyment of the simple things in life which I know at times, I can forget.
What keeps me centred (apart from the things you mention on your list) is hearing birds chirruping and for me, the highlight is seeing my nieces and nephews. I feel like I’ve been lifted up in every sense when I see them. Two of them live abroad so for them, I love chatting to them on the telephone.
You take care and keep being a great person, we need more people like you in the world!
