A hair-raising start to 2018!

Hello, and a big happy new year to you all, although Christmas already feels like it happened a lifetime ago! So, of course it’s January, which is when we usually make new year’s resolutions… Mine were to get fit, to eat better, and to be braver with my looks, starting with my hair.

Oh my goodness what a disaster that’s been! Hence the picture! I thought I’d try the Ombre Balyage trend, darker on top and lighter on the bottom. It didn’t turn out that way and I ended up very ginger, or ‘warm’ as my hairdresser calls it, which is ginger to rest of us – not that there’s anything wrong with ginger hair, it’s just not what I wanted! Ooops! So I’ve been back to my hairdresser, I’ve been seeing her for 15 years, I love her to bits, and I sat in the salon for another 4.5 hours. Urgh! My hair went green, then ginger, then canary yellow, then ginger, and in the end I had to go to pick up the kids from school, so I’ve currently got a very weird, mousey, sometimes reddish, sometimes slightly green hair!! Argh!!! I’m going back next week for a finally shot at it, and if it doesn’t work then I’ll be back to brunette.

I’m not going to lie, there have been times when I’ve wanted to cry, but it’s only hair, and when you have your health you have to get these things into perspective. Thank goodness for the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer! I have the Moisture Balancing set, you can choose which you would like. It’s on a Feature Price at the moment and 3 Easy Pays, so I would snap this up if you find your hair dries out or gets frizzy. You really do have to try this. It’s salvation in a pot! The amount of bleach on my hair this is going to be my saviour in it not breaking off!

OK, so the new look resolution is on the back burner whilst I sort out my hair, but I have been really good with my eating and getting fit. I have got myself an Alta HR Fitbit – which will be our TSV on Sunday 14th, so look out for it. Such great value! There’s colour options to choose from too. This is not only a really stylish watch, but also helps you monitor how many steps you’re doing and your heart rate. I find that if I’ve not reached the 10,000 a day, as recommended, then it motivates me to pop to the shops and pick up a magazine or something to top up my steps.

It’s a brilliant incentive and shows you just how active you are. It syncs via Bluetooth to your devices and is incredibly easy to set up. Some also have a sleep tracker, and give you call and text notifications with a slight vibrate, which means if your phone is on silent in your bag, you can still see if someone’s trying to get hold of you. It’s great. Don’t forget to pick what size you want. They come in Small and Large.

You’ve probably seen that we have the lovely Jenni Falconer on the channel at the moment helping us with all things fitness. If you’re looking for some tips on how to get started with a few exercises then have a look at this workout guide she’s put together. Remember always go at your own pace and if you have any medical conditions it’s always best to get your doc’s advise on how much you should do… a heads up, the lunges are a killer! After a couple of days doing those for the first time I couldn’t walk! I thought I might have to call my producer to help lift me off the loo as my legs had seized up! So go easy!

While I’m many miles off having a body like the lovely Jenni, I definitely feel stronger, more energised and in a better mood from doing regular exercise. I’m doing a session every morning Mon-Thurs at the moment, after I’ve dropped the kids off at school, and I honestly feel so much better mentally for doing it. You may or may not know that I’m a hypnotherapist, so I’m a BIG believer in the power of the mind, so I thought it was lovely to have the Speakmans in talking about their new book and DVD, The Key. It’s on Waitlist at the moment, but if you’re looking for help making changes to your life, fitness or anything else, this may help to give you the confidence. Self help isn’t for everyone, which is why QVC is so fabulous with it’s 30 day money-back guarantee, but it’s definitely worth a try if you feel stuck in a rut.

How amazing have the Big Deals been this week?? The savings have been crazy on the Percy & Reed four-piece set and that Amanda Lamb bag.. wow wow wow! So let me tell you what’s coming up next… a Kim & Co Brazil knit bubble hem tunic, a Tula anti-ageing skincare collection and a Silentnight pair of pillows. I can’t wait to bring you all of those next week and more!

On Thursday 18th join me on QVC Beauty for an hour of Westmore Beauty, the coverage on their products is amazing, and it’s waterproof! If you want to shop ahead, you have to get this Hollywood Eyes Collection. I’m in love with it. This will give you eyebrows that last for days! I’m not kidding! If you have patchy eyebrows like me that you fill every day and have disappeared again by the afternoon this is the set for you!! I’m addicted! I’ve gone dark brunette but there are other shades, plus you get the 60 second eye effects cream to reduce puffiness and it has concealer in it, genius, AND you get a fantastic mascara!

That’s it from me this week, it’s Izzys birthday next Sat, she’s going to be 5, so I need to go and source a Belle cake that won’t bankrupt me! Wish me luck!

See you soon… hopefully with better hair! Wishing you wonderful things for 2018!

    Hello Alex,

Firstly I have to say please do not worry about your hair, it really does look fine. I have just been watching you presenting Together Fashion, and I would like to ask you if instead of telling us that you have sizes 6 – 22 could you please give the sizes, as these can vary quite dramatically between designers, I appreciate that there must be endless requirements when presenting, but sizes are really most important when shopping from home.

    Thank you.

If your hair goes green use tomato sauce, all over the hair and leave as long as you can, then wash out works a treat ,I had to use it once,it really works.

Kind of the same for me regarding “the hair” – I decided to go for a different colour, as I have been ash blonde for as long as I can remember, so I asked for a slightly warmer blonde that would compliment my own hair colour of light brown, I even downloaded photos from Pinterest – DISASTER I have a kind of light brown, bronze colour – it is not me at all, I keep catching myself in the mirror, not making me feel confident, or empowered which is what I need right now as having a rough time personally for the last year, and sadly 2018 has started the same too, so going to leave it for several weeks and then return – Good Luck with yours x

Find a new hairdresser!! You could perhaps try anew shorter style . Using Philip Kingsley products to repair the hair , whilst growing your hair long again.

Poor Alex – I feel your pain! I only work an hour per day, so to save money decided to DIY my colour : ( My hair is now almost black instead of rich warm brown.

Still, not the end of the world + there are some fab hats about lol.

Take care, big hugs. Hope your next visit to the hairdresser is more successful!
