Gym sessions, birthdays and stuffed peppers!



It’s been more from Fashion Fix at 4 this weekend and I’m so pleased it’s become such a popular show. It’s a great way to be able to showcase some of the brands at QVC that you may not have discovered before or perhaps it’s a chance to see brands you didn’t think were for you in a different light. I got to work with two of my favourite fashion guests too, Ashling McCloy and Katie Pemberton. They really know their fashion and trends but they are also just the loveliest ladies and you’d totally want them in your girl gang!

I wanted to be able to shout about the Onjenu top that I wore on the Saturday but it sold out, but I would say have a look at the whole range from Onjenu because it’s such a fabulous range. My mum just bought a dress from them after seeing the one I wore last week. You can still get the Ruth Langsford faux leather skirt though and the Kim & Co Jumpsuit that I wore on Sunday and the Kim & Co Blazer that Katie wore, they were the most popular pieces in Sunday’s show.

So it’s been time to kick myself up the bum and get back to the gym. I’ve been feeling sluggish and in need of an energy boost and so I figured I needed to get back to concentrating on my fitness. So with the help of my gym buddy Rhiannon Duffin, who is also one of our Fashion Experts at QVC and also happens to be a close friend and local to me down in Poole, I got a routine going this week. THREE SESSIONS!!! That’s the most I’ve been to the gym in forever. Rhiannon and I hit the treadmill and ticked off 5K each time. I don’t generally run though, I power walk on a gradient and that seems to be enough for me for now. Power walking has always been the most effective way for me to lose a pound or two and get some good exercise in so I’m happy with that for now.

On Saturday it was actually time to celebrate Rhiannon’s birthday so we headed to Koh Thai in Bournemouth which is the best Thai restaurant. They do a set menu where you just let them bring you out dish after dish of gorgeous Thai prawns, beef, chicken and duck plus side dishes of Pad Thai and rice. It’s a great way for everyone to get to try lots of different things. I wore my new magenta coloured top from Phase Eight which have just arrived at QVC and we’re so pleased to have them join the family. More from them in a bit!

What I’m using in beauty

This week I’ve been focusing on the Todays’ Special Value collection which is coming from Laura Geller this Friday. It’s a four-piece kit called ‘Glow Your Own Way’ and I’ve been singing Fleetwood Mac all week thanks to that. Balance-n-Brighten has been in my make-up bag for a while now and It’s a bit of a go-to for everyday use, particularly when I’m in a rush. It really does balance blotches and discoloration in my skin and it’s lovely and light. It’s also brilliant to top up make-up throughout the day too, used over the top of my CC cream. It’s one of those products that once you use it you will always have one in your make-up kit.

Now the Baked Gelato Swirl is also something I have used and loved but I hadn’t tried it in this shade before. It comes in the Diamond Dust shade and I wondered would this be too white for me. Believe me this does not come out as white as you might expect, it’s actually quite subtle if you are just using a brush. If you use your finger or a sponge tipped applicator then it can come out much stronger, so you can really have some fun with this if you want or just use it as a subtle glow on the skin. You can highlight cheekbones, nose or cupid’s bow but also use as an eyeshadow.

At first look I expected to find the lip gloss too silvery and wondered if it would be something that I would wear but I was really pleasantly surprised. Yes it has a sparkle but the main body of the gloss isn’t silvery so it works beautifully over a plain lip and looks very pretty, and as a top coat to a lipstick it adds some extra glamour. Laura Geller fans will love this TSV but it’s also a great first purchase from this brand.

What I’m wearing

As mentioned earlier, Phase Eight has come to join us at QVC! It’s such a great quality fashion line and they make the most beautiful occasionwear. Spring and summer will be here before we know it and that may mean some great parties and weddings are on the horizon. Have a look at the dresses in particular that we are stocking. One of my favourite pieces however is much more everyday style. The Bettine balloon sleeve jumper. I wore it for the Accessories show on Friday and I got so many Tweets during and after the show asking about it. The colour is gorgeous and it’s a really flattering shape and I don’t have to hold my tummy in!!! I teamed it with the Indigo Amina Darted Jeggings which are crazily comfortable and perfect for days with trainers but also heels for a night out.

What I’m cooking

Peppers Stuffed with Lamb Mince

This week I resurrected a dish I haven’t done for ages. Fred reminded me of it and asked if I would do it again.

First I fry a whole onion in a pan with a clove of chopped garlic. I then add one pack of lamb mince and brown it through. I also throw in some dry chilli flakes but you can also use ‘lazy chilli’ from a jar, add as little or as much as your taste buds prefer. I then add a good shake of dried mint, a teaspoon of cinnamon, a shake of dried parsley and a decent squirt of tomato puree. Season with salt and pepper. I also add some stock, this time I used vegetable. I dissolve a cube into about an inch of hot water in a mug so not to add too much excess liquid.

Leave to simmer for a few minutes. This can be prepped in advance so if you are preparing it for later you can leave it to cool. Next take a couple of large red peppers and slice them long ways into two and remove the seeds, or if you prefer take the top off is it’s like cup. Fill with the mince and pop into an oven-proof dish or pan and put in the oven for about 25 minutes.

Then mix in about a third of a pack of pine nuts, I do like to toast them first but they are just as nice straight out the packet. I served it with cous cous but you can use rice if you prefer or just some salad. As a lunch you can serve it on it’s own as it’s pretty filling, even just one half! Serve with sour cream or creme fraiche too to balance any heat from the chilli.
