This week at QVC
So how’s 2019 treating you so far? Good I hope. I’m personally really glad to get back to a routine and get focussed again. I’ve definitely found my mojo again and I’m ready for whatever this year has to throw at me. I’ve had a fun week at QVC with some really great shows. It’s been a mix of Clearance and more excitingly lots of brand new pieces too. I got to work with the iconic Ben de Lisi which was a real treat. I have admired his work for years, the stand out piece being the incredible red dress he designed for Kate Winslet at the 2002 Oscars. It’s one of those dresses that gets shown every year as a marker for how to do it right on the red carpet.
We are so happy to have his range at QVC and for him to actually come and present the shows as it means so much more to us all that he is incredibly hands-on with his collection. One of my favourite pieces is the Ella jumper with his beloved French bulldog on the front, I teamed it with the Geo print circle skirt, and he also does the print in a pair of palazzo trousers, a pencil skirt and a dress, so something for everyone! I’m looking forward to seeing more from his collections.
I also had a really fun show with Adam Reed from Percy & Reed. I had never worked with him before so wasn’t sure what to expect. I certainly didn’t expect that he would have me laughing as much as he did. He’s like the cheeky kid from school that makes everyone laugh but who also just happens to be an international hairdresser to the stars with an incredible hair product line too.
We had a lot of sell-outs and lots of Tweets in during the show asking for tips and advice. He gave us lots of great tricks from the trade of how to get the best out of all the products. One of my favourites is Wonder Balm, an award-winning leave-in balm designed to give shine, detangle, hydrate the hair and reduce the frizz. That last note is the winner for me as my hair loves to frizz up at the sniff of humidity! Give it a try, we currently have the supersize at the same price as the standard one so it’s worth checking out.
Outside of QVC
If you follow me on Instastories then you’ll know that I have been getting back to my walking. Long walks to get fresh air, headspace and of course those important 10,000 steps! I usually try and do around 6K, I put my headphones on and binge on podcasts while I’m walking. It’s time to shut off and take in the world around me, particularly when I’m walking by the sea, and enjoy the chats and interviews.
I did a rundown of my current top seven podcasts to listen to over on my Instagram so go and have a look if you don’t know where to start with them or perhaps just want something new to try, click this picture to see it. My earphones are from QVC but are now out of stock but if you are looking for some try the Bose Noise Cancelling ones or if you’re on more of a budget go for the Fresh and Rebel wireless headphones which we have in some fun colours.
What I’m using in beauty
I have two things to tell you about from haircare this week. Firstly let’s get back to basics, you’ve got to have a good brush. I have had these Rock & Ruddle brushes for a while now but wanted to have used them for a good few weeks before I told you about them to make sure they are something that I genuinely like and use. Well I can tell you I’m using them all the time and love them. I had forgotten the importance of a good brush, not just for me but for my girls too. This set has a large and a small one. One for the dresser and one for the handbag. I could say the smaller one is for my girls but to be honest I use the large one on them too. They have rubber cushions and natural bristles which have nylon tips and the get the tangles out of my hair but most importantly Tilda’s as hers gets in the worst birds’ nests you can imagine. I had always used Tangle Teezers on her, which are also fantastic, but I didn’t think anything else would do the trick until these. I have the metal set but if you want something more fun then go for the flamingo set which is called ‘Feather’.
The second thing to mention is a sneaky look ahead to something that launches on Beauty Day, a range of hair pieces from Stranded International. We have had a lot of fun in the presenter’s lounge adding these brilliant hair pieces in to our hair. You will no doubt see some of us wearing them on air very soon. I have a brunette pony tail that can either be clipped in like I have here, or you can remove the clip and tighten it over a bun or short pony tail to add a full cascade of bouncy curls. Look out for Jackie Kabler who will be presenting them on Beauty Day, which is the 26th of January.
What I’m wearing
I fell in love with a coat a little while ago and was very lucky indeed that my husband bought it for me for Christmas. It’s the Baukjen Milan Boyfriend Coat and I think it’s just fabulous. It’s quite a strong pattern so may not be to everyone’s taste but I just love it. I think this is an investment piece for your wardrobe. It’s a higher price point so I appreciate it may be out of some people’s budgets but recently I am all about that cost per wear on clothes that will last me a decade rather than a season. I will be wearing this coat in years to come.
Now the other part of my look is the blouse, which again I know may be a bit much in terms of print and colour clash but this is a lasting trend that is fast becoming a major look on the catwalks and fashion magazines. I think the way to do it is to make sure the size of patterns are very different. So I have the big checks of the coat contrasting with the small floral pattern on the blouse, which is the Hallie blouse by Ghost. I love the pink from the coat with the green which also the blouse has tiny little pink blossoms all over it too. I love the sharp point to the colour, which feels a little 70s. It’s satin so is the perfect blouse for dressing up a little, but with jeans also makes a great day look. I also have a mustard yellow knitted jumper which I wear over it sometimes and that really works too and a cream cardigan that is perfect together also. A very versatile piece.
What I’m cooking – Seasoned lemon chicken with Courgetti Spaghetti
2 chicken breasts or fillets
2-3 Courgettes spiralised (you can buy it pre-done too)
Chicken Stock cube
I have something pretty healthy this week as so many of us are trying to kick start the New Year with some good veg and no carbs.
Firstly take a couple of chicken breasts or a pack of fillets and pop them in an oven prove dish. (You can leave the breasts whole or slice then into fillets, it’s your preference) I then sprinkled with herbs, you can choose your favourite but I went with dried thyme and sage and a squeeze of lemon. I then lay a couple of slices of lemon over them too. I also melted a chicken stock cube in a mug in about an inch of hot water and poured a little into the dish to add some extra flavour. Pop into a pre-heated oven for around 20 minutes at 180 degrees.
While this is cooking you can spiralise two courgettes ready to cook or if you don’t have a device to do that then you can buy it ready done at the supermarket. I use two whole courgettes for myself and Fred although it does shrink up quite a bit so you could use three if you are really hungry!
Put the raw courgette to the side for a moment and take a dry pan and pour in some pine nuts, however many you fancy! I then toast them on a medium heat. They can burn very quickly so don’t turn your back on them! Once starting to brown leave them to the side for later.
When the chicken is just about done I pour a slug of olive oil in to a pan with a sliced clove of garlic. Then add the courgetti, it only needs a few minutes as it cooks really quickly. Once it starts to cook down I throw in some handfuls of spinach too. Divide this into two dishes and remove the chicken from the oven and lay this on top. Sprinkle with the pine nuts and you’re done. Enjoy!
Lots of Love
