Happy February everyone! We are out of January and heading towards spring – this is good all round. February happens to also be a very big month in my family for birthdays. Starting with mine on the 4th all the way to the 23rd with Brodie’s (my oldest brother) and several more in between.
This week’s blog however is dedicated to pampering and shedding the old January and dare I say 2017’s skin, plus I have a little confession to make about hitting the (self-tan) bottle recently… read on for more.
I feel this year is going to be full of fresh creative ideas and making things happen. I have also had the honour of meeting and working with Millie Kendall MBE and Anna-Marie Solowij former beauty director of Vogue and their company Beauty Mart. I’ll come back to this later in the blog.
First, let’s start with looking after ourselves. Let me share with you some of the steps I’ve taken so far in the last two weeks.
I have been treating my face once a week to the exfoliating treatment mask from Tula which is packed full of natural ingredients and probiotics. (I always thought probiotics only came in the little yoghurt drinks). This mask however really gets rid of dead skin and blocked pores. In our line of work we use a lot of make-up and sometimes, if truth be known, after a long day, taking it off properly can be a bit of a chore. The downside of this is that my skin can look a little dull and less glowy. Not now! My skin feels super soft and looks younger. I love the colour too. By the way did you know that Tula is the Sanskrit word for balance.
I also did not really understand how important using toner is. The toner from The Ordinary company helps exfoliate dead skin and improve radiance. After using this just a few times I started to notice how clean and fresh my skin looks and people have commented on how bright my complexion is – which is lovely to hear.
How often do you treat your legs to a good scrub and polish? I hardly ever do! So I was intrigued to meet Margaret Dabbs and try her fabulous leg treatments. These aren’t available to buy just yet, but they’re coming your way soon at a terrific price.
Step one: scrub your pins with the gorgeous minty fragrant Leg Scrub. Oh my word I could not believe my skin could look and feel so smooth. Seriously I am not kidding. Try for yourselves. I’ve tried lots of scrubs over the years and this knocks the rest out of the park.
Step two: this is a Yellow Leg Masque, you smear this all over your legs and leave for ten minute. In this time it works its magic by helping with circulation and elasticity. My legs look a much more even colour and felt like they had some life back in them. I spend a long time standing in my job so this felt great.
Step three: Firming Leg Serum. Simply massage this in your legs and wait till it’s dry before you get dressed. This for me brought the steps together and left me feeling lighter, brighter and amazed at how smooth and silky my skin felt and looked. I don’t even remember them looking like that when I was 18 years old!
Confession time – I’ve been hitting one particular bottle recently and it’s this one below from Vita Liberata.
You all know that I’m from the Highlands and us Celts generally have quite pale skin until about the end of July when, if we are lucky, a few rays of sun may warm up the grey tone to a slightly warmer pale colour. So what’s a girl to do? I found sunshine in a bottle – it works and doesn’t smell of biscuits! Hurray! My advice would be simply give it ago. Using the steps above 100% helped the tan look more natural and stay longer. Otherwise the self tan is sticking to the old skin which then rubs away in patches. The top left picture is after my luxurious Margaret Dabbs treatment but before the tan, the top right is with the tan.
When I first put it on I did get a bit of a fright as it comes out dark brown! But this is actually brilliant as you can see where you have put it. And if you’re wondering does it comes off on clothes? I haven’t had any issues with this.
This week I feel brighter, smoother and healthier looking than I have in months. Simple steps can really make a difference.
The highlight of my week has been meeting Millie Kendall MBE and her business partner and former beauty director of Vogue Anna-Marie Solowij. Together they own Beauty Mart which brings together their years of expertise and hand-selected beauty brands. They were with us at QVC all last week launching their Big Deal.
These woman have not only launched and written about some of the biggest names in the beauty industry but also share their wisdom and years of expertise with you. They are an inspiration and a joy to work with.
I have one last note and call out for Nina Leonard fans, you may want to check out their Big Deal. And for getting to grips with stubborn creases plus keeping clothes looking smart then our other Big Deal from Morphy Richards might be the missing electronic in your utility cupboard.
I hope I may have inspired you to take a little time out for yourselves even if it’s just an hour once a week. You deserve it.
Until next time. Take care
