Good for the garden

I am a person who likes to put a positive spin on things so…. all this rain is good for the garden!

After the hot dry weeks in June, the lawn was looking a little patchy and brown – but not any more. As for my plants in containers, they have gone crazy. I was a little worried by the ferocity of some of the downpours, but everything seems to have survived. In fact, you could say, everything is flourishing.

You can see from the mud splatter on the blue pot (that I have planted my Garden Pick of the Month in) just how heavy the rain was, but the quality of the Plants2Gardens hydrangea was equal to it.

I hope yours is doing as well if you bought it and, if you haven’t got it yet, do remember the offer ends midnight on Monday as we move in to August.

The other plants pictured are the Plants2Gardens garden-ready plug plants, which was a Today’s Special Value in May. I’m very impressed with the quality of the plants, helped along by Richard Jackson’s Flower Power, of course. Has anyone else had really good begonias this year?

Well, my Supabond arrived on Tuesday and I’m pleased to report that… it worked! There have been no drips at all through the hole in the bath. I am very happy to recommend it and I’m sure I’ll find lots of other uses for it.

I’ve been shopping with QVC again this week. I’ve been trying to get another pair of the Clarks Helio Float wedge sandals for ages but every time I look, we are out of stock in size 4. I love my yellow ones, but they don’t always go with everything, so imagine how pleased I was to be able to get them in metallic when I had a quick look last weekend.

I’ve already been wearing them on-air and I love them! I’ve just checked and unfortunately they are out of stock in the size 4 again, although available in other sizes and colours.

Wilfie, on the other hand (or should that be paw) loves the box!

I also ordered the Soniclean toothbrush with 12 replacement heads for ‘im indoors. Unfortunately, I missed out on the Silver, so I’m just hoping Chris will learn to love purple as much as I do.

Last weekend I had a 99p deal on the Kindle version of my latest book, ‘Alice in Theatreland’, which has just garnered great reviews from Fiona Brackenbury and Lorna Ko – thanks ladies!

I was trying to think of novel (excuse the pun) ways to spread the word, when Jackie Kabler suggested doing a little video where she, Miceal and myself were ‘hamming it up’. I will put it on my website this weekend, if you want to have a look – any bookings for pantomime will be considered… maybe!

Seriously though, it’s great to have so much support for my writing from my QVC colleagues and of course I will reciprocate, should Jackie ask.

It’s my weekend off this weekend and, once again, I am missing two great Today’s Special Values. The Liz Earle Invigorate Your Senses collection launches at midnight tonight with their Grapefruit and Patchouli Cleanse and Polish in it.

Then on Sunday it’s the Yankee Candle Scents of Summer collection, in a choice of their bestselling scents. I wonder what your favourite summer candle is? I think mine is maybe Vanilla and Lime or Lemon and Lavender.

Have a great weekend and see you next Thursday,

Julia xx

      Hi Lynne
Do you mean my website newsletter? If so, I don’t send it every week – I only send one when I have something interesting to say. Glad to hear you enjoy it though

      Hi Elizabeth,
The weather has been pretty dreadful again today! The white skirt is from Per Una at M&S but I bought it last summer but maybe they repeated the style this season. It’s really a flattering cut.
      Hope you get one

    Hi Julia.
Long term fan, love your presenting style. Keep up the good work! Quick question, at what age did you give up meat? Ive been debating going vegetarian in the last few months! Still not sure if I can go the full plunge tho. Do you miss it at all?
    Kind Regards.

      Hi Emily
Thanks for your really kind comments.
I gave up eating meat and fish almost 32 years ago (age 29) just before I became pregnant with my son. I’m lacto-vegetarian so I do have cheese & occasionally milk, although I mostly have almond milk, and eggs. I don’t miss meat at all.
Are you thinking of going vegetarian or vegan?
