Julia 'goggle-eyed' with Debbie Flint and Jilly HallidayOr should that be bleary eyed?? It's been a very busy week for me this week as I'm sure it has been for most of you too. As well as being at QVC, I had the small matter of finishing off Simon Wilson's 'knitted' present before he left the country on Tuesday.

Do you recall us joking about the balaclava he had as a small child? Well he wanted a knitted gift from me, so I made him a snood/neckwarmer in purple. I took it into the shop on Tuesday lunchtime before heading into work, and for once I think he actually liked a present from me, rather than planning to bury it in his garden!!

After work on Tuesday I met up with Renee Greenstein, from Attitudes by Renee, to have a bite of dinner. We have been meaning to do this for ages, but as this was her fifth anniversary with QVC UK and I was her first presenter, we thought this was an appropriate celebration.

We had a tasty Indian meal – I have never tasted fine green beans or asparagus so good, and she was responsible for getting me slightly 'tiddly' on a couple of glasses of wine… I really am a cheap date LOL!!! I thought I had texted Chris, my other half, to come and fetch me, but hadn't pressed 'send'! He happened to ring half an hour later to ask what time I needed picking up. Good job he did or I would have been spending the night on the couch in the Presenter Lounge.

Then yesterday was our Presenter Christmas Lunch. We have to have two of these because of 'on air' commitments and the first one was yesterday. We always do a 'Secret Santa' and my 'pressie' was a box of coffee chocolates, a bottle stopper (useful for me, as I've already mentioned my very low alcohol threshold) and the gorgeous pair of 'Dame Edna' Christmas specs you see me pictured in!

I wore them on the walk back from lunch to QVC and it raised a smile on so many stressed looking faces – maybe they should be on the NHS? I also wore them 'on air' last night during my show with Glen Campbell – not sure he would recommend them as a style accessory!

Tonight is the QVC Christmas Party which I'm supposed to be going to with Sophie. She has been poorly with the flu for the last few days so we might not make it. If we do, I will definitely be 'goggle-eyed' tomorrow on my only day off this week, before being back in for our Last Minute Beauty Gifts event on Sunday. I'm on early on Sunday with Liz Earle, Elemis and Leighton Denny, so if you still have a few gifts to get, rest assured you can still shop with confidence for pre-Christmas delivery.

See you at 4pm,
love Julia x

    Hi Julia,
I am trying to picture Simon in his knitted present, I am sure he will look great, you must get him to wear it when he is back on next year. Maybe he will sell them in his shop. Love the glasses, I laughed when you mentioned they should perhaps be on the NHS, if it brings a smile to people’s faces why not. Glad you enjoyed your lunch with Renee, love her clothes, very smart. Poor old Sophie is going through it isnt she, hope she is better for Christmas. Enjoy the party if you go. Hope you got my card. Have a lovely Christmas and New Year.
    Love Jean X

    Hi Julia
Oooh I bet Simon liked his snood and you picked a good colour! Thank you for my Christmas card it is very nice! Sounds like you had a nice time at the Christmas lunch, hope you manage to make the party and Sophie is feeling up to it, if you do go make sure you take some pictures for your blog. I know how she feels as I’ve had a bad cold/sore throat all week and am just about getting over it!
Looks like the bad weather has finally arrived with the snow today, if it gets any worse will have to get my wintertrax out.
    Have a good weekend!

    Hi Julia
Sorry I missed your last blog but, as you say, too much to do and not enough time this time of year. I caught the start of the show with Glen on Thursday though …….. so funny! Have a word with the buyers at The Q about getting some of those specs in for the rest of us!
It was our work’s bash last night too so I’m a bit worse for wear this morning but thought I must catch up with my favourite presenters before I get started with everything else I have to do today! Tree’s going up …. wonder how many times I’ll be picking it back up again before I go back to work on Monday ….. remember, Casper’s antics!! I see you’re on with Keeley tomorrow. I’ll be tuned in …….. never too busy for an Elemis show! The Q have made my week (again) with an invitation to the 2012 Beauty Bash …… best crimbo pressie ever! Are you there???
I hope you got my Christmas card but, in any event, have a very happy Christmas with your loved ones. I hope you’re having a rest cos you work so hard on The Q.
    Lots of love

Why do you refer to Chris as “my partner” and not “my husband” – my friend and I always wonder? Hope you don’t mind my asking.
Happy Christmas to you and your loved ones, and thank you for making your shows so entertaining.

    Hi Julia
What a fabulously thoughtful gift for Simon – what do you buy someone who has got everything eh!! I’m looking forward to seeing him wear it on air!!?!!(i dont think so!). I bought a couple of Renee’s pieces earlier this year – two waterfall front cardi’s with matching tops(4 separate items) in a bright orange and lime green colours – i love them and they were really well priced with great quality – they are very “go too” which is always good in anyone’s wardrobe. You mention the Indian meal you both shared especially the green beans – is this the same as okra(also known as ladies fingers) as i love these(i’m not vegetarian but love my fruit(i love juicing) and veg(i’m also making a conscience effort to eat less meat). I hope you and Sophie enjoyed the QVC Christmas party? I was surprised(pleasantlyx) to see you yesterday morning on air – you looked great(the early rise hadn’t affected you – outwardly anyway).I enjoyed your Elemis and Leighton Denny shows – LD is a minx and was in that type of mood yesterday(so funny).I bought the Mally TSV and the OTO in the 11pm show with Ali K,i was bowled over with the value of both sets and we are getting gift bags and paper with the OTO so we split it into four or more pressies? – I’ll see if i part with any of the items or just replenish my makeup store cupboard!! I love Mally’s defender technology,it really sets a face of makeup and it doesnt move until i take it off – although – i love my BE mineral veil which also sets makeup really well(and is good for the skin). I do hope that Sophie is feeling better,i’ve just had two teeth taken out and its no fun feeling a little under par – i send her a big hugx I hope you and the family have a lovely Christmas and that 2012 has more highs than lows for all of you. Enjoy(and i hope Santa is good to youx)Love Linda,Glasgow

    Hi Julia
Hope Simon likes his lovely gift from you…would be fantastic to see him wear it on air with you.
Love the Christmas tree glasses, they’re brilliant and like yourself I would have been game for a laugh and worn them out too!
Hope you Sophie managed to get to the QVC Christmas party…it would be such a shame if Sophie was still poorly and not able to go, but at least she’s poorly now and not on Christmas day, that’s the worst…not being able to eat your Christmas dinner! Give her my best and hope she’s feeling much better soon.
If I don’t speak to you before, the Christmas card is on the way and I hope you have a fab-u-lous Christmas.

    Hi Julia,
Hope you went to the party even without Sophie – sure you’d have had your colleagues there. Hope it was fun if you did go. Not long till Christmas now. I’ve just heard of two deaths of little ones which is so awful at any time of year but this makes it all the more awful for their families. I just wanted to say my thoughts are with anyone who is having a rough time – I know some of you ladies from Ali’s Army are so love to you.
    Take care

    Hello Jean
Yes I got your card thankyou. Sophie and I did go to the party ( I’ll put a picture up on this weeks blog ) although she still had / has her bad throat and nasty cough and was on the soft drinks ….. handy for me as she was my taxi!!!! It was fun but we didn’t stay too late – my parting gesture was going for the VERY high note in ‘All I want for Christmas is you’ – fortunately no glasses shattered! Speaking of glasses, I have been having great fun with my Christmas ones and will definitely be wearing them on air at some point on Boxing Day!
    love and Merry Christmas

    Hi Alana
As I mentioned to Jean we did make the party – I will put a couple of pics up on this weeks blog – but Sophie still wasn’t 100% and in fact still isn’t although she is back at work. Hope you are better now?
We had a light dusting of snow last Friday but nothing since, and it doesn’t look like it is going to be a white Christmas.

    Hi Marian
I did get your card thanks but no address so I couldn’t send you one! It was lovely seeing Keeley even though it was quite an early shift for me!
We put our tree up last Friday – Poppy wouldn’t go anywhere near it for three days bless her – she really is a scaredy cat!
I am hoping to be at the Beauty Bash but ‘the powers that be’ haven’t confirmed me yet!

    Hi Sylvia
It’s not a balaclava, it’s a snood / neckwarmer. I hope I can persuade him to model it on air – he actually carried it off very well.
Thanks for your Christmas wishes and the same to you

    Hi Susanne
Glad to hear you enjoy my shows.
Chris and I are not married so I can’t really call him ‘my husband’ – although we have been together for almost 34 years – and boyfriend doesn’t really sound right. I don’t mind you asking and I’m simply being honest by calling him my partner – he’s my ‘life partner’.

    Hi Linda
My point exactly with regard to getting gifts for Simon, that’s why I normally go down the ‘jokey’ route. He genuinely seemed to like his snood though.
The beans were the fine green beans, which I love anyway, but I also really like ‘lady’s fingers’! I must get back into juicing, I’ve been a bit lazy lately apart from freshly squeezed orange in the morning.
Sophie and I did enjoy the party thanks – we missed it last year due to the snow and if I remember rightly she wasn’t too well then. She is still struggling a bit, but back at work. Hope your ‘teeth’ have settled down now.
Thanks for your good wishes for 2012 – we could certainly do without a repeat of 2011!!
    love and Merry Christmas

    Hi Annette
Sophie and I did make it to the party and we had a great time! You are right it would have been much worse to be poorly actually on Christmas day – although probably better for our waistlines!!!!
I have run out of time on the card front, so apologies to anyone I didn’t manage to send a Christmas card to – I’ll do thankyou’s in the new year instead!
Loving my silly specs – will be wearing them again before Christmas festivities are over!
Merry Christmas to you and Chris and Bobbie and everything crossed for a better year for you in 2012

I hope 2012 is a better year for us all too yes. As I sid to you my friends have lost their little ones. Too awful to think about. Love to all who aren’t well or are lonely. Take care and Happy 2012.
