Giving winter a splash of red!

What I’ve been up to

It’s been another busy week at QVC for me, the way my schedule worked out I ended up doing five days in a row so I was whizzing up and down the motorway like a yoyo to make sure I still got to see Fred and the kids but also juggled a few nights up at my parents to break up the journeys and early starts. It was also my sister’s birthday so I was able to squeeze in a night out with her and her friends which was lovely.

I then even managed to get a sneaky night out with two of my friends Becki and Rhiannon. You may have seen Rhiannon on QVC as she is one of our fabulous fashion guests. We went to the opening night of the Alpine Bar in Bournemouth which is a definite signal that Christmas is around the corner, It’s part of the German Market that comes to town at this time of year and it’s a lovely festive venue to have a mulled wine or spiced gin at!

They have also opened the gardens of Christmas lights so I need to take Tilda and Ivy down to see those. I will try and do that this weekend. Does your local town do a Christmas market or Christmas display of lights? I love it, it really adds to the lovely atmosphere of Christmas don’t you think? Also are you fans of mulled wine or do you find it too sweet? If so I shall share my Spiced Gin recipe with you as it’s a great alternative, watch this space!

What I’m wearing

So what have I been wearing this week? I ‘spotted’ this gorgeous dress this week and had to give it a whirl. I was worried it might be toooooo spotty but once I put it on I just fell in love with it. It’s by Ghost and it’s the Meryl Tie Waist and Front Split Dress. Isn’t it fabulous? I would wear this dress to parties, dinners out and any time I wanted to feel feminine, fun, fashionable and a little quirky. It’s so vibrant and people will remember it. So many people stopped me in the building to ask who it was by and I think it’s one of those dresses you will wear for years. What do you think? Too much or just your thing?

When I am back stage, the great thing about QVC is that there are always great things to discover and I cherry picked some pieces that caught my eye so that I could share them with you. I looked around and found lots of pops of red accessories which I just love at this time of year. There have been a few gloomy days recently and so a pop of red really helps cheer things up I think.

Firstly there were two Lulu Guinness bags that I would love to add to my own Christmas wish list. One is the iconic Lulu lips and one which is the perfect elegant day bag when I just need essentials. The lip-shape bag is kinder on the purse strings though! If you need even more of a reasonable price though check out the Ophia, ‘Stand Out from the crowd’ bag. This has the look of those straw/raffia style bags that were so popular this past summer but in a winter leather version. It also comes in black but I would personally go for the red.

I also picked a brilliant pom pom beret which is so much fun. It’s by a new designer to QVC, her name is Helen Moore and I got to meet her recently before her first shows and she is the loveliest lady. She makes the most beautiful faux fur accessories and I am so glad we’ve added her to our range.

I also found some great winter hats. One of which is incredibly stylish, well I think so anyway! It’s by Pia Rossini and it’s the coolest Camilla Fedora hat. I love this style of hat, I know it’s bit more dramatic than a winter beenie style hat but if you’ve got the confidence to go with a look like this then the pay-off is so worth it. If that’s not for you then what do you think of this ‘Piper’ Beret also from Pia Rossini. It’s more glam because of the jewels but it’s really easy to keep in your pocket to whip out when it gets cold.

What I’ve been buying

I am so happy because I have finally got myself the Bundleberry Cactus table. I’ve wanted it for ages but I wasn’t sure if I had a place to put it. Then I saw that it was on a Clearance price and I didn’t care if I had anywhere for it or not, I wanted it!! I have thankfully found a nice little spot next to my Fiddle Fig plant. I will probably move it around and try it out in a few different places, thankfully its light weight so I can put it wherever I want. It will make a really good extra table to have around if we have people over for drinks etc as it’s another place for glasses and bowls of crisps and dips!

What I’ve been cooking Lumaconi with Prosciutto, tomatoes and creamy garlic sauce

Winter for me is about comfort food so I’m afraid that can also mean calories! I’m sure I could make this healthier using crème fresh rather than cream but let’s just enjoy the cream shall we?!

What you’ll need –

Lumaconi Pasta or any other large pasta shapes, enough for 2.
Pack of Prosciutto
Double Cream 200ml
1 Lemon
2 Garlic cloves – sliced/chopped
White onion – finely shopped
1 pack Baby tomatoes – chopped in half
Parmesan, grated

Add the pasta to a pan of boiling water with a dash of salt and let that start to cook. Finely chop the onion and start to fry in a pan with olive oil and chopped garlic on a medium heat. Follow with tomatoes and let them cook for a few minutes then roughly chop up the prosciutto and add that to the pan. Once that starts to crisp pour in the cream and then squeeze in the juice of half the lemon., followed by a good handle full of grated Parmesan. Give a little stir. If it gets too thick then you can add a large spoon of water from the pasta. You don’t want it to be stodgy!

Once the pasta is done, (follow the packet instructions) then drain. At this point squeeze in the second half of the lemon to the sauce and then add the pasta to the pan and turn it over until it’s completely coated. (Top Tip for a real Italian – always take pasta to the sauce not sauce to the pasta!)
Serve in bowls and enjoy!

That’s it from me for another week, please do let me know what you’ve been up to. Did you snap anything up from our Black Friday deals? I bought the Fit Bit Versa which should arrive this week so I will let you know next week how I am getting on with it. 517375. I’m off to have a go with the Today’s Special Value teeth whitening set that is on all day on Friday from The Smile Box so tune in to see how my teeth are looking! Until then keep up with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Lots of Love

I have just received my Ghost “Meryl” dress. It is stunning! When I tried it on it made me feel so feminine. The material just glides over your body and the neckline is perfect. I just love it. I hadn’t thought of a red bag with it, but you’ve only gone and convinced me. Thanks. It looks so good on you.
