Girl Power – Three Generations Under One Roof

Oooh brrrrr, the weather has really turned today!! I’m about to don my trusty old Centigrade down filled coat to go and see my lovely Beth and walk the dog – but just quickly I thought it’s time for a little catch up  …..

You will know if you follow me on social media that my Mum has been in hospital for a couple of months. She is long term disabled having had a stroke when she was just 48 which left her without the use of her left side. Then on Sept 1st this year, she had a bad fall in which she broke her ankle, but then after being in hospital a couple of weeks, it was decided it had set badly so they re-broke it and put a metal screw from her ankle ALL the way to her knee!!!! OUCH!!!!!

Many weeks later and lots of physio still to go, she finally came out last week and will be living with us for the foreseeable future which is SUCH a treat as she’s lived so far away for such a long time. It’s wonderful to be able to have her with us every day, the children adore having Grandma around and she’s relishing in not only being in the midst of family life again, but her two new best friends, Whizz and Alexa!

We’ve had to restrict Whizz’s affectionate leaps and bounds toward her as he has a brilliant knack of leaping on her bed and landing on her bad leg – even when we put one of those big frame things over her, he still manages to get his feet in the wrong place so he’s learning to keep his paws on the floor. As for Alexa, well, Mum said to me “Pips, I really think you are asking me to bite off more than I can chew” – but then when I showed her how easy it is, her face lit up and I’ve barely been able to separate them both! She’s currently on her bed, wrapped up in her Cozee Home heated throw and listening to Rosamund Pilcher’s book The Shell Seekers.

Of course having Mum at home has meant that lots of change is afoot for us, but I have to say it’s such a gift to be able to give her the love and care that she needs. My daughter was hilarious the other day, just before Grandma moved in she said “How do you reeeeally feel about it Mum? I’m not gonna lie, I don’t want you living with me when I’m an adult” ….you’ve got to love the honesty!! I did point out to her that I left home 30 years ago now and so I’ve had plenty of “space” and she agreed that perhaps she might do the same for me if I was in the same boat when I’m 70 – gracious girl, ha ha!

They do say a change is as good as a rest and I’m really loving all the Christmas gift shows we are doing at QVC at the moment, it’s really getting me in the mood! We hopefully will be putting our tree up this weekend and then we can start getting our heads around present buying and wrapping. We have already started some but still there’s a way to go. I’m thinking Mum might love this Orla Kiely bag and matching purse coming up on Friday as a TSV. We gave her a new bag last year for Christmas so I think it’s a tradition we should start to employ!

Ok, enough putting it off, I’m going out to brace the bitter wind! Wish me luck and remember to catch up with me on social media. I’ve just sorted out my Facebook so I am back there now too but here are all the links just in case …. Facebook @mepipagordon, Insta @pipagordon and Twitter @pipalive links

Much love as always

    Hi pipa,
So lovely to hear all about your lovely mum. I didn’t know she’d had a stroke at 48. That’s so young and awful for her, and you all. It’s wonderful you’re all enjoying her living with you now. It’s a challenge of course but you are up to it. I always adore your photos of you and beely. You both look such fun. And 2 peas in a pod. Whizz is gorgeous too! Hope the break continues to heal. It’s awful coping with a nasty break. Take care all of you xx
