Gilding my lilies

If you’ve watched any of the gardening shows recently you will know that the presenters have been set a challenge by Michael Perry of Thompson Morgan to grow the best lilies, with the winner of the competition havinge a new lily named after them.

Well, here at QVC we are a competitive bunch so Richard Jackson has been badgered for tips, products have been used generously and sunshine has been danced for (well in my house anyway)!

I wondered how quickly the flowers would open so I thought I would do some time lapse photography to capture them as they came in to full bloom. Things didn’t work quite as I pictured it in my mind (I think I underestimated the skill of David Attenborough’s camera men) but I thought I’d share it with you anyway!

I reckon my babies are now at their best, so I will be photographing and submitting my entry in the next few days and then waiting to see if there will be a Lillium Biagii in the near future. Fingers crossed!

Simon, that video is great. You should be very proud of yourself, I have never seen anything like this done by an amateur, I just wished it went on for longer!
