Galloping into 2019

And we are off, I always see January as the waiting room for the year, a time to get prepared, sort things out and plan – then along comes February and the ride begins! I say ride, it’s quite ironic really as having started bringing Beth back into work after having eight month’s resting, the vet said to begin with just walking for the first four weeks before moving into trotting and building up her strength again. But no more than three weeks in, along came equine flu and everything had to grind to a halt. Our yard was closed down for a week and I thought that meant that we weren’t allowed in either – oops silly me, it just meant the horses weren’t allowed to go anywhere.

Never mind, we are all clear now and so I’m heading down this afternoon to have a gentle walk. I say gentle, I lunged her last week and at one point she got so excited that she put her head down and galloped – on the end of my lunge rein! It was hilarious …kind of! I made sure I warmed her down loads so she didn’t do herself an injury but I’m thinking she’s ever so excited at the prospect of getting into 2019 too!

To be fair, I do think that January flew by this year. I’m not convinced when they say that life goes quickly when you don’t try new things. My life is packed with new things right now and it seems to be going quicker than ever so I’m really making the effort to remove what isn’t necessary and sit in the moment as often as I can. I’m working the opposite of “don’t put off until tomorrow what can be done today” and instead I’m saying “if it can wait, it can wait”. Life’s too precious to be busy all the time!

One of the things I find in February is my skin takes a dip. I don’t know if it’s because winter has been around a while and I’ve not been outside as much, or my diet isn’t as healthy as during the summer or maybe it’s just coming to the end of hibernation season and everything starts longing for some sunshine! Whatever it is, I have found myself wearing softer pastel tones a lot more than previous years, suddenly I’m not putting my hand in the wardrobe for black every day – what is THAT about? Where have I gone? Or maybe the wardrobe detox has inspired me somehow …who knows? I wore this top from Phase Eight the other day and sooo many of you asked where it was from so I’m obviously not the only one!

By the way, talking of skin issues, my family doesn’t tend to wrinkle, we sag – I know, beautiful right? I sometimes wish we wrinkled as there seem to be way more lotions and potions that target that side of ageing but far fewer that target the dreaded droop! Last year I tried Elemis’s Pro-Definition range which is ALL about slaying the sagging and I’m delighted to say that they’ve put the entire regime which is now in the Pro-Collagen Pro-Definition range, along with their new gorgeous Cleansing Oil in a Today’s Special Value this weekend – but it’s available now!!!

That’s it from me for now, you’ll know if you’re with me on social media (see links below) that we are looking after Mum these days. This pic is us coming out of the cinema last week after seeing Mary Poppins and in a mo, we are about to go into town to get her eyes tested. My wheelchair driving skills aren’t too bad although on the slope, I definitely find myself re-introduced to my core muscles!! Thanks for all your interaction on social media, it’s huge fun as always.

Take care and much love

Hi loved reading about your Beth-BUT please buy a HEADCAM when on the roads…so many incidents with drivers at the mo x

Thanks Lorraine, where we are is completely off road, that pic is a private road to the yard so we are really REALLY lucky with 1,000 acres of farm land to ride on. You are right, it is partly why I moved yards, drivers are unbelievably unaware of the dangers for horses and riders on public roads – thank you for your care xxx

    Hi pipa,
How was Mary Poppins? I can’t imagine it! How’s your mum? I agree totally about winter and looking sluggish. Feeling it too. You certainly don’t look sluggish though! Your hair and top are beautiful. I wonder where your lovely boots are from in the last photo? Take care x

Hi Susan, it was ok. I was glad it wasn’t a re telling of the same story, it was actually 30 years later so that was fun although I found Mary Poppins’ accent immensely offputting! You’ll need to see it now to find out, it’s a good movie and as a die hard, recite every single line along with the original kind of gal, I wasn’t sure I would like it. I’d give it 6.5 out of 10. As for the boots, they are Rieker boots from QVC last year, we don’t have them in stock at the moment but there are lots of others xx

Ps agree about the busyness thing. People seem to compete to be busy now. Crazy. Start a new craze!

Good plan – although I’m hearing an awful lot about mindfulness so perhaps that might be the next one? x

OH it is SOOO lovely Christine! Mum is up and down, it’s quite a long road tbh but we are hanging on in there! How very exciting that you are moving – are you ready??? Hope it goes really well – remember, give yourself time to unpack, it doesn’t happen overnight (I’m sure you remember that, but just in case!) xxx
