Fun, frolics and friendship in London

11

Well hello there! I hope you all enjoyed a lovely bank holiday weekend and a good rest.

My changeable shift work means that I often don’t  know what day it is, let alone if it’s a bank holiday! I’m actually very lucky as I can enjoy days off in the week and sometimes I miss the traffic due to not always having to travel during rush hour.

Having said that, the M25 is turning into a twenty-four hour rush hour experience of late! Maybe it’s everyone jetting off on holidays from Heathrow. Lucky things.

I was very fortunate to spend a fabulous day out with my dear best gal pal, Mandy, recently. She works in London, as do I, and yet we never get out to see the sights. Well, Mandy planned us the most wonderful day!

We started very early, meeting in London at 7.30am. Mandy presented me with an envelope and told me she had our whole day planned out with various surprises! How utterly, flipping fantastic is that? She’s a marvel.

The first envelope contained a map guiding us to our breakfast destination, The Coppa Club. Despite it being early it seems to be a very popular place! We had a gorgeous breakfast by the river in a ‘surf shack’ where we watched the world go by.

Envelope number 2: The London Bridge Experience. If you’ve ever been to The London Dungeon and loved it then I think you’d like this, too. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so won’t give too much away but it was full of history, a few screams and lots of laughs.

From there I was given my third envelope to open… a little on-foot excursion to Borough Market. It’s just such a lovely place to visit and enjoy top-notch artisan foods and wonderful art. What followed with envelope 4 was afternoon tea at The Sheraton Grand in London’s salubrious Park Lane. What an utter delight!

There’s a funny little story attached to the afternoon tea. Upon discovering where we were going I commented on how it looked like it might be super-expensive and maybe a tad beyond our budget. Her reply had me laughing for ages.

She said there’d be nothing to pay for because this was my wedding gift to her and her husband, Gary!! If you follow my blogs you may recall she married last December and I was a maid of honour.

I said, “What about Gary, though?”. She said she’d tried to get him to commit to a day several times and because he hadn’t she thought we would enjoy it more than him! Ha ha!! Sorry Gary!

We were treated so very well – what a beautiful building. We took afternoon tea in The Palm Court, where a harpist played beautifully as we enjoyed some sublime treats.

Oh, speaking of treats, I had to laugh when our waiter offered to take our coats before taking us to our table. Again, Mandy was the reason for my laughter! She said, “Okay, but don’t you go rummaging in the pockets and nicking my dog treats!”

I’ve counted them and I know how many are in there! Tee hee! I just adore her humour. The staff took a moment to realise it was a joke and, from that point on, we were thoroughly spoiled by them all. They said it was so nice to host friendly folks like us who enjoyed a giggle.

Mandy had pre-arranged vegan options for my afternoon tea. Oh. My. Goodness! It was just amazing!!

Moving on to the 5th surprise… off to number 10 we went! No! Not that number 10. This was just a little funny one she slipped into the day as it was on our way to the next surprise. She found out there’s a place which looks like you’re at THE number 10 in Downing Street. It’s become known as the fake number 10. So we went there and took our photos outside. Hee hee!

Surprise number 6 was to go to a rooftop bar for cocktails. It was lovely but the weather had turned quite cold and a bit drizzly by then. Luckily for us the staff came round and handed out blankets!

Finally, one more envelope revealed a map to a place which I can’t reveal. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else who may go, but you have to recite a passphrase to gain entry here!

So, Mandy gave me the passphrase and I duly quoted it to the door staff and suddenly we were ushered beyond the main bar, down some stairs, through a little corridor and into a little private bar strewn with disco lights! It was so cute! I’d never done anything like that before.

Because we had started our day so early it meant that we were able to leave London and get back to our respective sofas by about 8pm! What a fantastic day; we loved every minute! I can’t wait to get out and enjoy more of our great city very soon.

Before I sign off, I’d just like to give you a heads up on a forthcoming Today’s Special Value offer from Color Wow. It’s a three-piece collection called the Dream Smooth Collection.

Color Wow are award-winning and consistently receive praise for how glossy and smoothing their products are. They’re also very easy to use, too. That’s coming up on Friday so if your hair is showing the signs of having been a bit frazzled through the summer heat, then this could well be the collection you need for terrific tresses!

Also, don’t forget to check out our Big Deals on the front page each week. There’s always something great on offer.

Thanks so much for popping in to have a catch up. I look forward to reading your comments. Please forgive me if I don’t always get time to respond to them but do know how much I appreciate them.

You are fabulous.

Love Catherine xxx

Hi Catherine. What an amazing friend you have! The thoughtfulness that went into it is just beautiful.

I assumed from the photos that you were sisters! -although on the face of it (sorry) you don’t look alike, there is something which causes a definite similarity. A naughty twinkle maybe!

Really enjoyed reading about your day out, spookily came at just the right time as I was looking for inspiration for some things to do with my mum. We’ve had a rough year, her with a stroke & me with breast cancer. We’re both doing OK & now need some treats xx

Wow! What a fabulous day and what an amazing friend. Hold her close as life without close friends is horrible…take it from me!! 😢 I love afternoon teas. When I lived in Hong Kong, my friends and I would go to various large hotels to have their afternoon tea after our shopping trip and reveal to one another the bargains we had bought. You didn’t mention if you had succumbed to a bargain or 3 at Borough Market. 😉🙂💕

Hello, I’ve just become aware of how many products sold at QVC are tested on animals.
Please can you tell me which products (beauty) you use as I know you will be using cruelty free ones. I have some philosophy stuff which I see is involved with animal testing and also l’occitane. The only thing I use that i know is free of animal testing is the lovely liz Earle range, please advise me what else I can buy from QVC that is ok for us animal lovers.
    Thanks.
