My trusty little fitness and sleep tracker has just embarked upon his most challenging adventure yet, joining the local gym with me! Freddie goes everywhere with me, even to bed.
I bought the Fitbit Alta from QVC a while back now and I feel lost if I ever leave him at home on charge. About the only time he’s off my wrist is when I’m in the bath or when he’s charging up. I find it’s a great way of tracking weight, goals, calories, water intake, sleep and activity. I wasn’t sure if I’d get on with one but thought, “Why not? 30 day money back guarantee” and I went for it. I love it so much I bought one for my mum, too! Freddie keeps track of how many steps I take in a day and helps me keep going toward my daily goal. My favourite form of exercise is going for long walks so they soon clock up. Walking is a great way to help stay healthy but it doesn’t tackle things like bingo wings and jelly belly and, like most, I have a little helping of both.
At QVC we are very lucky to have a gym just opposite our building. Several of my colleagues are members already and I thought it was about time I started getting a bit more work in to help get myself in shape and to get healthy. I’ve never stuck with gyms before. I’ve only been a member of one twice in my life! The first I kept up with for a while and the second, I went less than a handful of times. With age comes (some) wisdom and I think there’s a lot to the sayings “use it or lose it” and “make time now or you’ll have to make time later”. It’s a bit like an investment, really. Putting in the time so it’ll pay off later on. I want to be as mobile and fit to carry on doing the things I love for as long as I can. This gym has a lot of variety and loads of classes so watch this space, I may just stick to it! I’ve only done one induction session so far but I could really feel it for days after! Best thing is it’s right on the doorstep of QVC so I can go before or after work.
Tomorrow at midnight we are launching the perfect shoe for getting those steps in! It’s from Vionic and is actually their first ever bungee lace trainer. Vionic are a very clever company and are known for their podiatrist-designed technology which helps to realign the feet and, in turn, the knees, hips and so on with their built-in orthotic footbed. This is one of their most stylish trainers to date. I love the bungee style as it’ll be so easy to pop on and off at the gym for the treadmill, exercise bike or just for everyday living and walking. Make sure you tune in tomorrow at midnight for more. Eating healthy is just as important to me as exercise. I am finding my Vitamix and Ninja so handy for preparing my own healthy food. I make nut butters, hummus, sauces, and much more but I find that a quick smoothie on the go is a great way to get my five a day in ahead of a busy day. My go-to is spinach, carrot, apple, ginger, lemon, turmeric and black pepper. I know, it sounds strange but is so easy to whizz up and take with me when I don’t have time to actually stop and eat and I honestly like it! I’ve made a few dodgy concoctions which didn’t turn out so great but, thinking about it, it’s very rare that happens.
How are we coping in this heat, then? I know I mentioned it last week but it’s worth another mention. The Dyson range of fans are a must in this weather. I just don’t know where I’d be without mine… probably on the floor in a wilted mess! Hopefully it will help you keep cool, too!
I look forward to checking in again next Wednesday. Have a super week!
Love Catherine xx
