Frantic Friday

The Bangles may have had Manic Monday but I always have Frantic Fridays, today even more so than usual! As I sit here writing at 11am, I have already baked a chocolate birthday cake for my mum, to be iced when I get in from work, written a piece about my Vitamix blender (TSV next Saturday), and when I’ve finished this I will be making a quiche for tomorrow’s lunch with mum in Nottingham, before heading in to work…. madness! I do like to keep busy but sometimes even I admit that I have bitten off more than I can chew!

When I get into QVC this afternoon it will be for my two regular shows, ‘Fashion on Friday’ and ‘Spotlight on Jewellery’, which are part of our 50 Hours of Fashion event. I wonder if any of you saw the Catwalk Show last night? That was the start of the event and it was a fabulous show to be part of once again. The models really enjoy the chance to strut their stuff in the outfits that had been put together by one of our stylists, Charlotte. Well done Charlotte and all the team – it’s so nice to do something a bit different! Everything on-air during the event is in 3 Easy Payments so it’s a great opportunity to start putting together an Autumn/Winter wardrobe while spreading the cost.

‘Fashion on Friday’ today is once again featuring Kipling with the lovely Marie-Francoise Wolff. We often talk about the bags being big enough to put a paperback book in – guess which one we are featuring today? Actually I just want to say a huge thank you to the QVC guests who have bought my book, ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’. Last Friday, Ouida Oliver, from Ronni Nicole, bought it to read on her flight back to America, and then on Saturday Jemma Fenton, the Morphy Richards guest, said she would like one for her holidays. I took it into the guest lounge and immediately had requests from Anne Dorrington, Russell Bristow and Mrs. Gleam for their respective holidays! I’ve asked them all to take selfies so we can have a gallery of ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ on tour! Yesterday, adorable Rosa, the Yankee Candle guest, bought hers too. I would love to be able to give them to the guest presenters but my aim is to be able to donate as much as possible to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Speaking of which, I had my latest results this week. It’s not back to a row of zeros but a better result than last time, and I’m still classed as in remission.

Julia Roberts book

‘Spotlight on Jewellery’ today at 6pm is featuring Lola Rose jewellery (and maybe a scarf or two) and we’ll be showing the latest edition of Prima magazine live on air. Why? Well there is a photo of Joanna Lumley wearing Lola Rose jewellery and the piece will be available to buy.

I’ve had a lot of comments over the past week about the watch I’ve been wearing. It’s Anne Klein and here are a few more of the styles we will soon be featuring at the end of August – spoilt for choice I’d say!

Anne Klein Watches

Remember,  you only have until midnight on Thursday 20th August to enter my competition to win the gorgeous Butler & Wilson Ruby and Citrine earrings. To enter, simply head over to this blog post and comment with your answer to the question. Here is a little piece I recorded with Simon.

We’ve had around 500 entries so far but still room for a few more and much better odds than the National Lottery! Good luck.

Must dash in a minute as I have the aforementioned quiche to make but just thought I would mention quickly the other charity I am involved with, the British Polio Fellowship. I had a meeting with them in the week to discuss a fashion collection being designed using Premiership team colours which will be modelled at the half time of the Palace v West Ham game in October. The purpose is to raise awareness of Post Polio Syndrome, which will be suffered by the majority of people who contracted paralytic polio in their earlier life. My dress is going to be in Red and Blue, for obvious reasons, and a huge thank you goes to Terry Byfield at Crystal Palace for helping to organise things. Good start to the season for my Eagles but a tough game against Arsenal on Sunday which I’ll be attending with my son Daniel, as he is back from Swansea for a couple of days.

Have a great weekend!

Julia xx

    Hi Julia
Just wanted to congratulate you, I have just finished reading your book and what can I say………SENSATIONAL, I loved it. The only thing that could possibly have made it a better read for me would have been a chilled glass of peach bellini and a beautiful sandy beach…. sadly I returned from my hols 2 weeks prior to starting the book so the great Welsh summer weather had to do.
It was a heart warming read which connected me emotionally with all of the characters, some parts, not wanting to give anything away gave me a lump in my throat which forced me to read on, you have a real creative flair for writing.
Don’t keep us waiting too long for the next instalment, can not wait to see what comes next !!

Hopefully the weather will improve in time for your next visit to Swansea and you will continue putting together the next exciting instalment in Holly’s life.
Would love to meet up for dinner if you can fit it in to your busy schedule.

    Best wishes

      Hello Sharon
I’m so pleased you enjoyed my book and connected with the characters emotionally. I must confess to a few tears in place when I was writing it!
I had a really good three days of writing this week while I wasn’t in at QVC – about 8000 words, so I am over half way now. The story is coming together beautifully – not experiencing Philippe’s problem thankfully 😉
Daniel will let Adam know when I’m next down – I’ve yet to walk along a Gower beach in beautiful sunshine!
If you feel you would like to, do leave a review on Amazon.

    Hi Julia,
You must be shattered with all that driving and still finding time for baking. I must say your quiche looked delicious. Hope your mum’s foot is less painful although I’m sorry to say it can be a long and painful condition. Let’s hope it’s not as bad as when I had it.
The rugby was painful to watch to put it mildly. Ireland were the deserved winners. I don’t know why Wales go so wrong. (Well I do, but it would not be printable!!) Let’s hope they pull their socks up for the World Cup.
I must say I am a “watch” person and really liked the watch you have been wearing and the others you’ve shown on your blog. I’ve lost count how many I’ve got. I’ve always got room for a new one though.
Well the weather has become overcast today but at least it’s not raining ( so far). It’s so changeable that when we go out for the day I have to take shoes in case it rains as I’m always in my Birkenstocks, a mac an umbrella etc. etc. You’d think we were going on holidays with everything I put in the car!! Anyway hope you bring the sunshine with you on your next visit, lol! Take care, Tina S.

      Hi Tina
I must confess I was a bit tired after all the baking and driving but it was worth it to see my mum looking so well. She is persevering with her Birkenstocks – she finds them really comfortable but they haven’t had much of an effect on her plantar faciitis yet – I think it is going to take a few weeks.
Sorry about the rugby – we’ll plant that there shall we!
I’m hoping to get down down to Wales this weekend so hoping to bring some sunshine with me – not that we’ve had much lately over the past couple of weeks – torrential rain yesterday with flash floods!
      speak soon

      Hi SJ
Apologies for the delay inreplying – I’ve had all sorts of issues replying to blog comments but it seems to be okay now.
The date for the Anne Klein Watches show got put back – I think it is now early September but do keep checking our website so that you don’t miss out.
Hope you enjoyed the Butler & Wilson shows. I did design a couple of pieces but neither Simon nor I were happy with the three dimensional models in the early stages so they were abandoned sadly.
Did you leave a review on Amazon for my book? I think there is one from someon called SJ? If it is you thank you very much and if it’s not you I’m really pleased you enjoyed it.
