A fluffy addition to the Franklin family!

Hi again,

As some of you may have worked out from my teaser comments last week, or as those of you who follow me on Twitter @dalefranklinTV , The Franklins’ have got themselves a new puppy ! May I introduce you all to Ellie, our eight week old bearded collie!

She joined us on Friday and has settled in very quickly to our busy household – Toby interacts with her more and more each day, having looked the other way every time she was near him, except the odd occasion where she needed a quick lesson in dog etiquette from him. Don’t worry Toby fans, he is getting even more hugs and “what a good boy” comments since her arrival (which is probably humanising him a bit) but we want to make sure that he is still our much loved Toby.

Toby and Ellie

Let’s be clear: ALL puppies are adorable

But, as you can guess, I have a huge soft spot for beardie pups. Ellie has an incredible spirit and is very brave for such a tender age. She is also virtually housetrained already, of course there will be accidents ahead of us but as we’ve been blessed with very mild weather since her arrival so she’s spent a lot of time in the garden and obviously been praised when she’s been a “good girl!” She even runs to the back door to let us know! I’ve included a few pics for you and, of course, there will be more to come.

She is technically a black/slate colour but has this amazing brown/red tipped coat colour – a bit like the tipped plush that we see in Charlie Bears – talking of which I’ll be launching a new TSV on Thursday into Friday with Will Morris from the fabulous Forest Friends Collection – so hope you can join us at midnight.

Vax with EllieAlthough Ellie has been a superstar at housetraining, having owned many dogs before, I know there will always be those little – or sometimes larger – “accidents”. You might have the same if you have a pet, or perhaps you just want to remove the everyday dirt that gradually builds up that your vacuum doesn’t always lift?

Well, tonight I have a great solution from British household name Vax with their brilliant Dual Power Reach Carpet Washer – the best value carpet washer we have ever aired. It’s not only a great price saving, but lightweight and powerful – I would go as far as to say that every home should consider having one.

Join me at midnight with Ben from Vax to see our amazing offer. I was going to put it through it’s paces but Ellie needed a ‘Pup Nap’!

I’ll put together a montage of Ellie’s antics in my next blog, until then take care

Dale x

Dale, Your pup is absolutely gorgeous, yes they are lovely dogs the Bearded Collie. I have a Red and White Border Collie, beautiful long coat, blue eyes, and not forgetting all my Labradors and Golden Retriever.
Will look forward to seeing how she goes on in your future blogs, Toby is a lovely dog as well and he will soon get use to her, as you know puppies are full of life and want to play and explore and I am sure Toby just wants to relax.

Hi Dale, , thank you for sharing your photos of your lovely dogs. I must say I am more a cat woman ( we have three), but Toby is smashing and Ellie is ADORABLE.

Hi Jean thanks for your comment – you’re absolutely right about Toby, he is a really laid back and loving dog but he does sometimes get grumpy when Puppies hang off his coat or jump all over him and we’ve tried not to interfere with the way he has had to put “Ellie” in her place – we trust him not to tick her off aggressively and as I said, everyday their bond grows – I’m sure they’ll become close pals. Hi Dale, we have Ellie’s sister LOLA living with us, we collected her on Monday.
Lola is very similar in colour just fatter.
Lola joined our other two beardies Lottie and Bonnie both seven from the same litter.
They to are trying to ignore her at the moment.
    Lovely to see Ellies pictures.

    Hi Dale,
Your new little pup Ellie is so cute and gorgeous. Nothing like having a new pup in the house to make you smile. Her big Bro Toby is lovely too..accepting her into the ‘fold’. Hope you all have a fun filled and happy life with both your dogs.
I just love dogs..after we lost our Cavvy (Rosie) at 10 yrs old we got a chihuahua….she’s a delight, makes me smile everyday .
A house is just a house without a dog with a dog it’s a ‘home’ Mina says yap! Yap! Yap…doggy speak for ‘hello little friends’

Thank you so much for the delightful photos of Ellie and Toby. I lost my last dog in January and, sadly, circumstances do not allow me to have another. It is the first time I have been without a dog for 58 years so now get great pleasure from seeing other people’s companions. I hope Toby’s claws have healed and I am sure he will grow to love Ellie once she has learned ‘doggy etiquette’!

Hi jackie, I’m so pleased you enjoyed “Ellie’s” photos – there will be many more ! As I type she is testing her bite reflex – on my toes ! Our Vet has to clip Toby’s claws now but says they’re the best they’ve ever been ! Dale x

Bet this puppy cost you a lot of money? Ever thought of rescuing a furbaby who really needs a home (or will be PTD (Put to Death) and then publicising this on here???

Awwah Cute alert. Really lovely, looks cheekier than Toby did, and sound clever with the housetraining. Hope the franklin household has fun, and some brill times with Toby and Ellie together. I think older dogs meeting younger dogs or pups can be quite funny sometimes, if same gendre. May be different older dog and younger bitch, taking into account doggy behaviour, but lovely anyhow. Look forward to seeing more of Toby and new Ellie.

    • Dale Franklin September 18, 2014 at 8:48 am -  Reply

Hi Karen – Yes she is cheekier than I remember Toby being – he has always been a very easy dog. As I’ve said “Ellie” is much more like our previous bitch “Emma” in character. Toby was a star at housetraining and I think the dry weather coupled with watching Toby has helped “Ellie’s” encouraging progress (Don’t count your Chickens Franklin !) Dale x

Your little puppy is so fluffy better not show my daughter as she will want one, i’m very pleased to here the Toby is still getting all the hugs, and that the toilet training is going well and no messy puddles on the floors,

    • Dale Franklin September 18, 2014 at 8:55 am -  Reply

Hi sandra, She certainly looks very cute but has sharp claws and needle teeth ! She’s really lovely and is learning our rules very quickly – so fingers crossed – Toby looks the other way when she misbehaves rather than telling her off and yes, he still gets plenty of hugs ! Dale x

What a cutie Ellie is , and your adorable Toby. I am a beardie owner and I get so much pleasure from Max . Max is my 2nd beardie as we sadly lost Millie who we will never forget . Enjoy your pup and take lots of pics as she will grow really fast .Any tips on grooming would be greatly appreciated!

    • Dale Franklin September 18, 2014 at 8:16 am -  Reply

Hi Sue, we had our first “Beardie” Emma for 16 years then waited as long as we could before getting Toby 6 years ago – “Ellie” is much more like “Emma” in character, perhaps because they were/are both bitches ?) With regard to grooming it’s either hard work or expensive ! There’s no doubt regular brushing helps. We do get Toby groomed professionally and try to maintain him ourselves as long as we can. It really depends on the time of year and weather – he has a particularly luxuriant double coat even for a Beardie (could be to do with his dark colour) I’m sure “Ellie” will have a much lighter coloured coat. Hi Claire ! Lovely to hear from you. I hope Lola’s settling in with Lottie & Bonnie – after a few days of Toby ignoring her and generally being grumpy – Ellie has melted his heart and she now follows him everywhere and even sleeps with him in his Kennel when they’re outside ! x

Hi June, We contacted Toby’s Breeder Elaine, who knew about Ellie’s litter, possibly through the Bearded Collie Club ? You can also try the Kennel Club for more info of the Breed and available litters from Registered Breeders. x

Hi Beverley, Thanks for your kind comments – I often refer to myself as a dog person, only because I’ve never owned a cat, but there are some stunningly beautiful cats and who can resist either a kitten or a puppy ! x

    Hello Dale,
I have never written to you before but looking at the photos of your adorable puppy made me just want to drop you a line.
Having had 2 Golden Retrievers for the past 13 years, although we lost one of our beloved dogs just over two years ago, I know a thing or two about housetraining them.
We found when we had our second puppy a year after we had the first one, that he learned so much from his “big brother” and housetraining was actually a breeze. Of course, the odd accident happens, but that was often more our fault for not reading the signs properly.
I hope you enjoy every minute with your lovely dogs. They give us so much pleasure and their love is unconditional.
Please keep us updated with more photos of Ellie, and Toby of course!!
I love the photo where they are both at the bottom of the sofa. Toby’s face is priceless!! I think at this moment he thinks of the days where he was the only dog and how wonderful that time was.
Well, I better get going, I have a Golden Retriever waiting for his walk.
    Best Wishes

Hi Virginia, it’s great to hear from you – we’ve had “Ellie’ nearly 2 weeks now and there’s no doubt each day Toby relaxes more with her. Watching the body language phases between the two of them is hilarious. Similarly it’s fascinating watching how quickly “Ellie” learns the boundaries both the family and Toby set her and then watch her challenge them – priceless ! Hope you enjoyed the walk. Dale x

Awwww bless! Ellie is an absolute cutie. My heart melted when I looked at the pictures. She’s absolutely gorgeous. And oh my… Toby is a very handsome chap. They do bring us so much happiness our beloved pets. I couldn’t and wouldn’t live without our little furry loved ones. Give them a big cuddle from me. X
