First of the birthday celebrations – and Debbie does catering!

Debbie celebrates her birthday with Brad and LaurenOK – a big FIRST this week for me – and a shorter blog this week for obvious reasons – reeeeeeally busy this week!

-    First, I catered – myself – totally – utterly – on my own, Simon Brown-type of solo cooking – for 45 people on Sunday! Yay!

-    Second, had a looooovely extended family celebration in the local village hall – complete with cake! Then another on Wednesday night with a few QVC pals. Spoilt or what!

-    Third – oh and had my first real experience of the new studios – and the two dressing rooms – old and new – couldn't look more different!

-    Plus what we really thought of the 'Bad Teacher' DVD! And a fun film – 'Made in Dagenham'.

Chilli without carne!
OK, so it wasn't easy, but having recently 'learned' to cook, at the grand old age of 49! I felt confident enough to – a) spend three hours in Tesco buying it all, and b) spend four hours in my kitchen cooking it all, producing some lovely chilli dishes – one with Quorn, natch! – plus tuna pasta, rice, salads, and a couple of macrobiotic specials!

It all went down a treat, and then it came up again… haha! Seriously, I was very proud of myself. I always get a bit embarrassed when it comes to being the focus of attention (yes really!) but everyone did me proud too! Including Lolly and that lovely cake!

Most of the family came along, and 'cos I'm the eldest of five, and there are fifteen grandchildren now, many of whom had partners, you only had to add a few more friends and we had quite a full hall! Enough room for the little ones to run around a bit too. My Bose supplied the music perfectly adequately and the whole day went without a hitch, so cool banana! Lol.

Debbie with Brad and her nephewsOf the fifteen cousins, only four are boys – here's me with Brad and the 'boys'!

Plus it was lovely having Goody attend too – more celebrations to come on my actual birthday (10th) – news of that next week, along with the medieval banquet a la Flints!

Chiswick Park awaits
Debbie's new dressing room at ChiswickNow if you didn't realise already, we're leaving our Battersea studios after nearly 20 years, and going to our new home in Chiswick Park, W4. The new studios are purpose built and all pristine and new.

In fact, so much so that my new dressing room – to share with pal Carmel – is probably the most spic and span it's going to be ever. Here's the pic to prove it – it won't last long that way believe me!

The move itself is happening end of May, so I thought it'd be a good idea to do a bit of a clear out. As some of my Facebook friends have said – 'we're the same size as you, throw it our way if you're de-cluttering'! Hehe! Not sure if I'm allowed a 'Facebook auction' in aid of charidddeeee , but if so, I'll let them know! (N.B. if you're not a Facebook friend yet, just ping a request over and I'll do my best – bit behind at the mo, but maybe I'll get my daughter to help again!)

Lauren helps to clear out Debbie's dressing roomIn fact, Lauren's been helping quite a lot lately – not only did she and her lovely boyfriend Nick, postie and talented cake-maker, bake my birthday cake, but she also came along to spend five – FIVE – arduous hours with me turning out all my cupboards and boxes full of three year's of QVC bits, in preparation for the move.

But it was worth it – even though the end result didn't, er, look that much different from the 'before', as I have still got big boxes of toiletries and all my clothes to do. But at least I'm about 20 pairs of size 7-8 shoes lighter, and the models' room has had a recent surprise delivery! Lol.

Still it's very exciting and we're all looking forward to it. I had a full day's rehearsal on Tuesday this week, and more to come, hence not much time for me on air this week!

San Gennaro supper with the QVC gang
The one day I WAS on air this week was Wednesday, partly 'cos Craigy had arranged a little birthday celebration with Carmel, Anna and two of our managers – just a small cosy meal after work – I even managed to stick mainly to the veggie stuff but I did have a little sip of wine!

The QVC gang go out for dinner              Craig enjoying his meal at San Gennaro

Great fun it was too and the food as usual was fab! (see EAT below!). Craig had fun experimenting with a little bit of everybody else's too – typical Craigy!

One of my fave pressies I know I'm getting is a vintage phone – I love all things historical, and my lovely sister Linda and pal Nicky are paying for a working model for my 1950s influence kitchen. Come back next week to see the one I got!

As promised last week – remember I said about a 'YouTube sensation' called Keenan Cahill? See last week's blog for one of his first videos, where it all began – just him in his bedroom lip-synching to some famous pop songs. Well all of a sudden, out of nowhere, this happened. And yes it IS the real guy!

And from then on, lots of other famous people have just appeared in his bedroom to sing their songs with him – well with over 40 million views who wouldn't! Lol. So now if anyone mentions his name, you'll be in the know! Thanks to Mr Back-of-My-Tandem for that one!

The sweetest thing!Just a quick 'doing the rounds on Facebook' this week – this adorable pic of a sweet little baby hedgehog – who knew they looked like that! Bless!

(No bloopers this week, but will make up for it next week – promise!)

WATCH – OK, so following up from last week, I watched 'Bad Teacher' with Cameron Diaz (well, not technically WITH her, actually WITH my kids on the night of the family party, hehe). But it wasn't half bad! I'd give it about 8 out of ten. It did make me laugh and I particularly liked Jason Segal playing the down to earth PE teacher. And some of the other cameos were pretty funny too. Worth a rent – you may find it a bit 'Bridesmaids' – I'll be interested to hear if you liked it too, as much as son Brad's fiancée Kari did!

New film for you to watch – a delightful little DVD – 'Made in Dagenham' – a fairly successful British movie from 2010, starring Bob Hoskins and Sally Hawkins. It's a true story – and follows the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination. Real vintage stuff and wonderful to know it was based on real life! I very much enjoyed it – it gets 8.25 out of ten for me.

Meal at San GennaroEAT – as promised above, it's the dinner we had at San Gennaro, with Craigy, Tina, Paul, Carmel and Anna – all very delicious! I'm having the occasional fish dish, so mine was the seabass, Tina had a fab pizza, and Carmel's was a lip-smackingly tasty butterfly chicken in breadcrumbs – yum!

San Gennaro is not going to be my 'local' anymore as of June 8th, when we move to new Chiswick studios, so it was nice to have a kind of a farewell meal there!

QVC – as you've guessed, given that my 50th birthday celebrations continue around the actual day (10th)and the 'big' medieval night out is on Saturday, I won't be in at work much! BUT do look out for the Spanx Today's Special Value on Sunday/Monday, and a wonderful Emma Hardie day on Tuesday midnight/Wednesday.

Spanx Trust Your Thinstincts Round Neck Tank Top                  Emma Hardie Amazing Face Daily Rituals Collection

Am carrying over the competition, for bareMinerals new 'ready' make-up launch pack, to next week's blog, and the blooper of Ralph from Honora – so do come back next week to see it! I'm actually writing this on the morning of my birthday as we had a bit of sickness in the family during the week – that rotten gastro bug that's going around, so what with that and a packed diary this week I ran out of time!

Thanks to everyone who commented on my blog last week by the way, especially all the newbies! And thanks to those of you who sent me a card in the post to QVC. A couple of people asked for the address – it's late but it's QVC, 346 Queenstown Road, London SW8 4NQ if you still need it! More next week, have fun!

Refer back to the 'P.S.' at bottom of last week's blog to find out how to leave a comment below – if you'd like to – I'd love to read it! I do read them all and try to respond to them all individually!

Have a great week! 50s here I come!

Happy 50th Debs-you do not look your age!!!!Your children are beautiful-a credit to you. Good luck with the move-I came to QVC-Battersea for a fashion day a few years ago with my daughter-we loved it and thought the building was wonderful-a modern Egyptian-feel from the main street-why(apart from space)do you at QVC have to move???? Who is taking the old building over? Have a good week and enjoy the year ahead. I remember depressing myself on my 50th when I thought I was half way through my life—–only to become more depressed when I realised I was most certainly way over half way through it—ARGGGHHHHH.lOVE K.XXX

Hi Debs,Glad you’re still enjoying your new diet like I said before about eating meat after helping on the farm as a kid and feeding the lambs it is quite easy to enjoy your food if you make it interesting. I also eat fish, you can’t have a relationship with a cod like you can a lamb, otherwise it would make eating out difficult plus it makes you brainy, ha ha. I went to a funeral recently and for the first time they had food for veggies labelled seperatly which was great, normally I’m looking at the sandwiches to see what they contain. Not eating meat has done me no harm. Have you tried smoked tofu, it is quite tasty. Glad you enjoyed your party and all your other celebrations. Hope you enjoy working at Chiswick Park and will be glad when you’re back on qvc I always enjoy your shows even if it something I’m not interested in buying.

I LOVED Bad Teacher – thought it was very underrated. It’s a real shame that there’s nothing much for really good female actors like Diaz in their forties and beyond. Goldie Hawn said once: ‘There are three ages of women in Hollywood – Babe, District Attorney and Driving Miss Daisy.’ She’s right.

    Hi Debs
Sorry I haven’t posted in quite a while; it’s been a hectic few weeks! Been off work again after a rta – a van pulled out in froont of us and mum’s car was a right off. Thought I was done for! Thank goodness for airbags, they certainly did their job. That was on 12 April, and I’m still sore. Docs said it’s because – apparently – “you’ve got no padding to protect you”. It was a week before I could take the dogs out, in case they pulled. Mum and I keep saying someone must have been looking after us, it could have been a lot worse.
Anyway, enough negativity. Hope you enjoyed your bday and got what you wanted. I had a nice, rather uneventful, but peaceful, day on mine, the 5 May. The years seem to be flying by, don’t they? Where have the years gone?
I took receipt of the SBC tsv the other day. With the manuka honey and orange blossom, the practical benefits are first class and the scent is sublime. Money well spent. I needed the arnica gel – I’ve been using loads since the acccident and am running out – so I excuse the purchase as being a necessity rather than a treat! I also have the other tsv which included the collagen shower gel, but I think the manuka/orange blossom just about beats it. And the body butter is so thick, you need a little. It is gorgeous. What a dreamily luxurious set. I use Judith Williams LLB as well, and Emma Hardie, so am looking forward to their tsvs – I can see another couple of spends on the cards.
Hope your babies are as well as mine – isn’t arnica gr8 for the dogs? Well, you take care, Debs, and speak soon.

Debs – Haven’t seen a hedgypig in the garden for ages but did have a turtle dove land under the bird feeder a few days ago – a SiFFT for me (Saw it for the First Time) – ironic as the RSPB have just launched a programme to up their numbers as the population declined by 90% between 97 and 2010.
Enjoying the latest Nordic crime drama The Bridge on BBC4 atm, great black comedy one-liners and a haunting theme track ‘Hollow Talk’ by Choir of Young Believers.
Your volume incident in the car recently was reminiscent of you trying to pause a cinema film – so funny – at my age I could do with a rewind button as well !!
Looking forward to part 2 of your 50th celebs update, Nige :))

    Hi Debbie,
Hope you had a super birthday! Your celebrations look great-and so nice to share them with lots of different groups of friends.
i celebrated my 50th last June and also had a few opportunities to celebrate-a night out with some work friends, a meal in a hotel with my good friends and family and then a post-birthday “post mortem” with my best friend and her family!! There’s no point in ignoring the momentous date so it’s best to be gracious and enjoy all the celebrations!!

    Hi Debs
I caught one of your shows on QVC Beauty the other night and wowww are you looking good – you look in your late thirties early forties, your skin, hair and makeup looked fabulous and you are sure in great shape – really healthy and trim but shaped like a “real” lady – curvacious and very femininexx In fact you dont look any older than the first time i watched you on Q and that was around seventeen years ago – time flies ehxx Your birthday celebrations sound and look fab – your family did you proud and congratulations on the catering achievment – your birthday cake looked scrummy – i love a sponge birthday cake with marzipan and icing – a big(got to be big) slice with a cup of tea and i’m sortedxx I hope the move to Chiswick is a smooth onexx By the way i’ve been getting into homeopathic medicine recently – very interesting – i’ve been taking a prescription prepared made to measure for me and although sceptical when first taking,i can truly hand on heart and a stack of bibles say that something positive is happening – i mention it because i know your into things like thatxx The lovely Rachel in your customer care/social media team actioned my e-mail request re the Elemis/OPI and not being able to leave comments on presenters blogs – she was fantastic and answered my question along with getting me advice re “clearing my caches” – i really appreciated you giving me the link and Rachel giving me so much helpxx My names on at least one of Emma Hardie’s TSV tonight – so many full sizes and absolutely lovely products – thanks for the picciexx Look after yourselfx Love Linda,Glasgowxx
