Chez Huntley is finally Christmassy! It usually happens as early as possible on the 1st of December but I had to resist until Saturday as I had to wait for my daughter to come home from uni. It’s a real tradition for us to slip into our pjs, crack open a bottle of Buck’s Fizz, turn on the Chrimbletide tunes and merrily throw tinsel, lights and sparkly bits all over the homestead! Ahhh, what a lovely feeling.
I’ve mentioned previously that my son is somewhat camera shy but he was there, too. He’s less bothered about putting up the decs but he delights in cooking up a good meal so he made us a hearty (but vegan) bangers and mash meal with steamed kale. Oooh you can’t beat a bit of comfort food once there’s a chill in the air, can you?
More than that, though, you can’t beat being together with your brood. The three of us share a very special bond. It works in all directions, too. We are each close to one another, separately, but when we are reunited as the three musketeers (what I’ve called us for many years now) it’s pure magic! Lots of laughs, talking and never ever enough time. Chrissie had to go back again as she is a singer songwriter, like my son, and has some more work to do before she returns home for her proper Christmas break. It was a short but very sweet visit and I can’t wait for our Christmas together. We usually love to eat way too much and play a few games and then have a snoozy slouch on the sofa with full bellies watching Christmas movies. It’s cheesy as anything, I know, but it’s wonderful.
Speaking of cheese… I have discovered a lovely one by Sainsbury’s for vegans. It’s a caramelised red onion cheddar style ‘cheese’. I had a little time to myself the other evening so I decided to indulge in some on oatcakes with a gorgeous festive chutney by award-winning company Rubies in the Rubble. It was their pear, fig and port. Oh my… it went down just as smoothly as the large glass of Sauvignon Blanc which accompanied it! I’m looking forward to my first Christmas as a vegan. I’ve got some delicious food planned. Just finalising our menu and I will be posting it all on the blog soon so watch this space!
I’ve got quite a few gifts for others already and now I’m thinking that the Kipling Today’s Special Value might just be perfect for one of my very good friends. I adore it! I’ve been trialling this one out. It’s nice and spacious and I adore the grey and rose gold combo. It’s so chic and fits all my various odds and ends, including iPad, into it. Of course, being Kipling, there are little pockets for everything you need to be organised.
One of my favourite things about it is it’s rather a premium design. An elevated style with a gorgeous fabric and luxury finishing. The price is brilliant with over a third off what it will be after TSV day! Plus, we have Easy Payments! Hurrah! I’m so tempted by more than one of the other colours. This is going to be a firm favourite shape and design for me. Great to have the cross body/over the shoulder strap but also the option to carry by the grab handles. Such a lovely bag and you can buy it now, ahead of the launch at midnight on Thursday!
Thank you, as ever, for stopping by. I hope you are feeling happy about the festive season. I’m very aware that it can also be a difficult time and my heart goes out to you if this is one of those years for you. Hang on in there and know that someone cares.
Lots of love,
