Family fun… and tackling a hairy problem!

I’ve had a lovely trip away since my last blog. As part of my mum’s Christmas present my three sisters and I said we’d take her away for a family weekend in March, when the weather got a little better. Remarkably, it was the first time all five of us had been away together as adults, mainly due to several of us living in different countries for long periods (Ireland, UK, Japan and Australia over the years) so this was SUCH a treat not just for mum but for all of us.

As my sisters and mum now all live in Ireland, it made sense for me to go over there, so we booked a weekend in beautiful Cork. We stayed in Kinsale (so pretty!), but travelled around a bit too, although the weekend was mostly about shopping, chatting, eating and laughing (SO much laughing!). Inevitably the conversation often turned to the sister who was not with us – sister number five, Deborah, died nearly seven years ago – but it was all about happy memories and how proud she would now be of her three gorgeous children, who are growing up to be such wonderful girls.

The weekend was over far too soon but we’ve vowed to do it all again next year – I’m already looking forward to it. Here are a few pictures from the weekend – a fabulous location with some of my favourite people in the world.

I’m abruptly changing the subject now – hands up who’s got a problem with unwanted hair? I don’t mind admitting that as a woman whose natural hair colour is almost black (like my sisters, see above!) my body hair is also dark, and I’ve tried pretty much everything over the years – shaving, waxing, bleaching, plucking, you name it! In recent years though I’ve decided laser is the way to go and have had great success with a couple of home laser hair removers I’ve tried.

There’s a new one coming to QVC as the Today’s Special Value on Friday 24th March, and I must say it’s the best one I’ve tried yet – really quick and painless, and the before and after shots I’ve seen are very impressive. It’s the SensiLight by Sensica, and uses RPL (reactive pulsed light) which is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. This damages it, permanently reducing hair growth. Anyone with hair colour darker than their skin colour can use it and it’s going to have a 60 day money back guarantee so definitely worth a try if you struggle with unwanted hair.

I’ll be launching it with Ruth Frances at midnight on Thursday so if you have any questions please leave them under this blog or tweet me (@jackiekabler) and we will do our best to answer them all.

That’s it for now!

Love Jackie x

What a great pic of you all! The lady on the left? Your sister? Definitely looks like you. You should frame that wonderful photo of you all having a good time. Oh yes and the wine, a very good idea. I agree with that. Look forward to seeing you on QVC soon!

I am post menopausal and am plagued with wiry chin hair. Mostly grey/white and they appear daily. It is not always possible to pluck on a daily basis as I need a bright light and magnifying mirror. The hairs are not dark so is it unlikely to work on my fair complexion?

      Hi Joan
So sorry but the comments on this blog have only just been published today, the 27th of March. But yes the rule seems to be that the hair needs to be darker than the skin for good results. Sorry!

Hi Jackie – what a lovely thing for you to all go to Cork for the weekend. I am sure your late sister was there with you in spirit though. Kinsale is beautiful and I went there a few years ago with my husband. My late father was Irish but I had never been to Kinsale before and what a great day we had. We had a lovely look around, a beautiful lunch and looked in the gallery of Eoin Connor (gallery now moved to Wexford) and we bought a lovely signed print of Eoin’s which hangs in our hall and gives us a laugh all the time as it is a great print with two local characters no doubt! If you are not familiar with his work have a look it is great and colourful. Take care and bye for now. I am the lady who recognised that you were in Santorini last year! Teresa

      Hi Teresa,
Good to hear from you again! Kinsale and Cork in general really is beautiful, we had a great time. I like the sound of that artist – I will look him up, thank you!

So good to hear about your time in beautiful Ireland, it’s my favourite place as my Dad was born in Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh. Having been to Ireland many times now including Kinsale. Happy memories. Sounds like you had a brilliant time and nothing better than being with family.

      Hi Jennifer
The sister sitting next to me in the photo in the restaurant above is also called Jennifer! I lived in Ireland for 13 years and both parents are Irish so I go quite often but had never been to Cork before, loved it. And yes, family is the best!

Hi Jackie I hope you manage to look up the artist I mentioned and enjoy his work. It is very different and brings a smile to the face! Take care.
