Last weekend the birthday fun continued, and I took a trip to my first ever art exhibition. In East Dulwich every year they do an artist’s open house event. Brother Glenn, niece Laura and I went on a tour around people’s houses, looking at artists’ studios, examining their pictures, paintings, music, sculptures, classwork and lots more. It was a great day. Halfway around we saw Gabby Bradshaw and Laura bought her first piece of art. A very big occasion.
Plus I found a likeness of myself – well I thought so ha ha. Certainly in the same pose…?! Then we had a wonderful cuppa and cake in a nearby café that did almond milk – hurrah. And a good time was had by all. Thank you very much to brother.
I also had an outing with mum, see below. Another wonderful year of celebrations. And they are not over yet!

Walk right back – the Everly Brothers’ story
Well what was my surprise in the end? After a lovely homemade salmon salad meal at mum’s, her surprise for me on my actual birthday in the evening was to be taken to Epsom theatre to watch the biopic musical production Walk right back the Everly Brothers’ story. The first half was the story mainly, with lots of wonderful music. The second half was like a concert, including saying happy birthday to people in the audience… Yes you can guess what happened! Plus I saw a couple of people I knew there, including Eve, my first boyfriend Martin’s mum. She has hardly changed. What a coincidence. And a couple of lovely QVC viewers who said hello. I adore their harmonies, the Everly Bros, and I bought the CD afterwards. A really good evening and a great choice by my mum. Funny then that she thought she was booking ‘That’ll be the day!’
Yesteryear – me and lil’ sis
One of the best presents I got was from my sister, I lovely framed photo of her and me when we were very young, she was about 18 months, so I must’ve been about three. In our lovely smart red dresses on the way somewhere no doubt. We were always dressed the same when we were very young – until we could object! LOL. I love old photographs and have enjoyed seeing these very much.
Insta post of the Week
Just wanted to say thumbs up to QVCBeauty for posting this photograph of, as some would put it, a real curvy woman. Good for you guys. I’m a big fan of not using any filters in photographs of celebrities on magazines etc, and I almost never use filters on my social media posts. Past the age of caring to be honest ha ha. But seriously it is a good move and speaks volumes about the need to have body confidence. As we all should 🙂
Deb as a Man – Snapchat app
This is either hilarious or the most scary thing I’ve ever seen! I look like two of my brothers crossed with my cousin. This is the latest craze on social media, a filter on Snapchat app, where you can make yourself look like the opposite sex! What you would look like if you had been born as a male or female version of yourself. The whole family was doing it and it was really funny to see what all the cousins looked like. Lara really looked like her dad! My sister Linda really looked like Glenn too. Great fun!
Vlog of the week – The most haunted in in the west country!
This week I had my friend Jude down and I took her to the highway man, supposed to be haunted and very very quirky. Go here to see the vlog I did from outside.
It was built in 1282, apparently, and was transformed into this unique old pub and restaurant just outside Okehampton on the Tavistock Road, about 50 years ago. I did a little one inside as well, go here to see it.
Book of the week
I have started listening to a great new book from Jean Fullerton. She is one of my favourite wartime authors and wrote the Call Nurse Millie series. In this new book, a Ration Book Christmas, the Brogan family are fighting to retain normality amidst the Blitz, whilst the men are away. Youngest girl Jo finds a newfound freedom, and they all try to pull together to make the festive season as good as possible. I know it’s not Christmas, it’s May. But I don’t care! I always enjoy Jean’s books, and this one is no exception!
Watch – Avengers Endgame
Well what a spectacle this film was. I can’t say too much in case you go and see it because it would be a spoiler alert! But there were a couple of surprises in this ultimate finale of the Marvel superheroes series. It was a bit obvious what was going to happen at the end of the last one, Infinity war, and they did not let us down. But well worth seeing anyway. Paul Rudd as Antman always gets my vote as he is so funny. But so was Thor, and Iron Man was outstanding. 8/10.
