Outside of QVC
Well this week was a busy one for fancy dress in our house. Obviously Halloween meant that the kids wanted to go Trick or Treating so we went to join friends at their house to go out with a big group of us. It’s getting busier each year in our area. One nearby street apparently had to call the police because of the number of people who came. There were children all over the road so the police had to come and clear people away as it wasn’t safe. The road we went to was much more calm thankfully, otherwise I would have just had to turn around and take the kids home as a few chewy sweets just isn’t worth the risk.
Anyway we had fun and lots of houses had gone to a lot of effort with cobwebs and sound effects and even light projectors. Ivy went as a little witch and Tilda a little devil. I however was going to go as Cruella de Vil until I realised I had left my faux fur black and white coat at my parent’s house, so I had to pull together a last minute costume! Thankfully I have a trunk load of QVC make-up so I was able to create a leopard with it!
You can see the full list of products I used over on my Instagram. The following day we had yet another fancy dress outfit to sort, thanks to the school for scheduling that the day after Halloween! It was ‘Space Day’ for Tilda’s class so we had to send them in as aliens, astronauts or planets or whatever we could pull together. I took an old pair of Comic Relief Deely Boppers and covered them in tin foil and managed to find a planet style jumper for her to wear along with trousers that had stars all over them. Plus a little glitter make-up and she was good to go. I’m hoping for no fancy dress for a little while now!!
What I’m wearing – Damsel in a Dress, Amara Skirt
I am loving Damsel in a Dress at the moment, it’s a funky, fashion-forward brand with some really cool pieces. I love this skirt, it definitely has that nod to the 90s which is so fashionable again. I can imagine Cher from ‘Clueless’ wearing it with a matching blazer jacket and knee high socks!
I however went for black tights and a chunky jumper from Ruth Langsford. I have worn it with biker style boots before but this time I chose my Geox Annya ankle boots for a slightly smarter feel. I am a size 12 and I’m wearing the size 12 and it’s bordering on tight around the bottom so if you want a looser more A-line shape then you may want to go up a size.
What I’m using – Lab Life Gold Collagen Plasma Face Masks
I slowed down a little this week after the very busy half term holiday. Well I tried to anyway but of course it still ended up a busy one what with all the fancy dress goings on! So on one of the mornings that I found myself with a small ‘me time’ window I took the opportunity to give my skin a little TLC. I cracked open a set of Lab Life Gold Collagen Plasma Face and Décolleté Masks. I know, I know it looks a little like another fancy dress outfit, my husband ‘hilariously’ said Halloween was yesterday Katy. Haha thanks very much Fred, I swear his dad jokes are getting worse.
It was so worth taking the time though. They are incredibly cooling and majorly hydrating and are designed to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. I am getting major lines on my chest, particularly in the morning so this was perfect for me and I saw a marked improvement. The masks are quite slippery when you get them out of the pack and there’s quite a lot of product left in the packet so after I had used it I put them back in to get another go out of them later in the week.
It takes a second or two to get used to the one on your face but once I had it in place I just lay back and enjoyed the coolness and calm. I think for party season these will be great to get your skin looking and feeling great. They will also be good for those mornings after too!!

What’s Cooking? Roast Squash with Rosemary, Red Onion and honey
I am obsessed with Roast Dinners, I can’t get enough of them. I love the cooking, the preparation the ridiculous choice of what to cook. So many different cuts of meat, soooooo many sides! Perfecting roast potatoes is the ultimate challenge every time no matter if you’ve got them right before. I’ve brought you my ultimate cauliflower cheese before and I thought I would suggest some more sides over the coming weeks. In this week’s I bring you the humble squash! Not the strongest of flavours I find so I like to add to it.
You’ll need –
1 Butternut Squash
Red Onion 1-2
Oil (I use olive)
Salt & Pepper
Peel and Dice your squash and spread the chunks into an oven proof dish. Chop the red onion in chunks or segments and scatter in the dish. Take sprigs of rosemary and lay them over the vegetables. I also pull the leaves off a stem or two and scatter them as well. Then drizzle with olive oil, honey and a sprinkle of rock salt and pepper. Pop it in the oven for about 30 minutes. I have everything roasting at about 180.
Towards the end you may want to remove the dish from the oven and pour away some of the liquid that’s accumulated and then return to the oven so it’s not too soggy. It’s a tasty side dish and also great for vegetarians. (For Vegan you would have to use Vegan Honey, or try maple syrup).
