What a lovely weekend where I was surrounded by doggies, who were in town for the fabulous pet grooming glove. Lovely Grace, the little white one, plus big Flora in the middle, as well as cuddly Kin on the end, were all as well behaved as ever for the guys. I miss my Labradors when I’m in London presenting QVC, so it was lovely to get some doggy therapy.
Talking of gloves, we have such an array on offer online at the moment! From garden gloves to faux pearl bedecked ones, take a look if you got some Christmas money to spend and are feeling the cold at the moment! Go here.
Closer to home, Daisy dog has been getting up to mischief again! See what happened when I got a new doorstop… watch the ‘dog vlog’ on my official QVC Facebook page – click here to see what she did! And if you like seeing what’s coming up on QVC, just follow me on my social media as I do lots of updates throughout the week, plus let you know when I do new blogs and book reviews etc, as well as lots of lovely vlogs, many walking through the picturesque country roads in my Devon village where I now live. Can’t believe it’s been two years since I took over the place, and time has flown.

My sis Linda and I have made a pact. Having slid into a bit of a sugar addiction over this last stressful year, I promised to give up sugary treats if she could do dry January and do her usual diet ready for our cruise holiday in February. So far so good! This was one of my veg packed dishes earlier this week, very tasty it was too! Left to my own devices, and listening to my body via Freedom Eating system a la Till the Fat Lady Slims book, I don’t generally want to choose sweet, it’s savoury that does it for me. What about you? Five weeks and counting…
Baby news – me and sis
This lovely pic of me and my baby sis was being shared around our family Whatsapp groups this week. Can you spot me right in the background above Linda’s head? And our cousin Jackie Cullip next to Linda. We loved the hot pants in those days! This is around 1972 at Warners in Hayling island. We fought a lot in our teens, when she was the rebel and I was the eldest trying to keep the rabble in check…! But now we’re besties. I hope Blake and little Phoebe my two granddaughters end up being close. Nine months apart is not much, so if they can see each other often enough that’ll help! Phoebe nearly giggled the other day, Lolly told me, which is such a lovely thing to experience, isn’t it? And Blake is getting much more confident with her walking – she took several steps over Christmas when they were down with us. I’m looking forward to the next two weekends as I get to see Blake both times. Yay!
For those who have been asking, I had been struggling a little with the recovery of my knee after the op in November. Even though it was only a little op, as you can see from these two scars on my man-leg, (inherited them from my late dad! Lol), it’s still a bit stiff. I’ve just changed my footwear though and got back into my Vionic insoles, which are much more comfortable to wear. Go here to see our Vionics range. I think having a flat right foot hasn’t helped either. Bodyblade will though – my legs always feel stronger after a good session and having recovered from a Christmas cold, I’m full steam ahead!
Last week I had a book bonanza, so this week it’s a film fest! I enjoyed two super movies at the cinema. First I saw the incredible The Favourite for which Olivia Coleman quite rightly won a Golden Globe on Monday and should do really well in the BAFTAs. Unusually there are three leads, and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone are also stunning. Set in the court of scatty Queen Anne (Coleman,) in the early 1700s, this tells of behind the scenes dramas at court, where serious political events compete with petty relationship squabbles over the Queen’s attentions. Stone is a social climber who gradually rises through the ranks, and Weisz is a powerful Duchess who controls her destiny – and the Queen’s. Blimmin fantastic and well worth a watch. 9/10.
Then straight after I was going to see Laurel and Hardy but the cinema had a technical problem! So instead I saw the most amazing Steve Carrell film, based on a true story. Welcome to Marwen is the most original film I’ve seen in a long time and while it’s a tale of redemption in some respects, its mix of stop motion adventure and real life tragedy make it utterly compelling. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I loved it, including the info about the real hero it’s based on, at the end. Watch out for it. 8.75/10.
Another thing I’d recommend to watch is the outstanding performance once again, from Benedict Cumberbatch in Channel 4’s dramatization Brexit: an Uncivil War. Taking a look back at the lead up to the Brexit referendum in 2016, we see the fictional confrontations and behind the scenes build up for what was, for many of us, a hard fought battle and it’s interesting to see behind the scenes as to what could have happened. Much of it was ‘devised for the purposes of dramatisation’ but worth a look.
As is the Netflix film Dumpling – if you have Netflix please give it a watch. Full of tears and joy, moralising and dreaming big, this is Jennifer Aniston doing what she does best – emotion packed relationship drama. About the beauty queen with a plus size daughter who decides to take part in her mom’s pageant – get the tissue box ready though! 8.5/10. Well worth a watch – seriously, well worth it!
