Tell us about yourself

I started in the swinging Seventies with teenage magazines as a fashion editor. I then worked at the Daily Mail as assistant fashion and beauty editor for two years, before I moved on to the Daily Mirror and edited their fashion pages for 15 years.

Lesley EbbettsIn the 80s, I appeared for eight years as the first fashion expert on-screen, doing live makeovers and celebrity interviews for Granada TV's ’This Morning’. I became SAGA magazine’s fashion editor in 1999 and as an over fifty, I love to write about ‘new old’ fashion and style, and ‘new old’ fashion icons like Twiggy, Helen Mirren, Cher and Susan Sarandon.

Currently I work as a consultant, a guest fashion expert on QVC, and also contribute to Woman & Home magazine and BBC Radio, as well as developing my own fashion website.

Tell us about Withsleeves and how you got started

WithSleeves is a range of elegant modern dresses with a great silhouette and cut – all with sleeves that cover the upper arm. It is a destination brand for any woman who needs a dress for any and every occasion and hates her upper arms.

Fashion has been in love with the sleeveless dress for years but these days many women, when asked which part of their body they weren't happy with, said it was their upper arms.

Their demands were clear – no more cap sleeves or spaghetti straps, they were sick of covering up with shrugs and cardigans. Then, when I read that many women who had money to spend on a great dress were unable to, I had to do something and WithSleeves was born.

What are your inspirations?

As a fashion editor, for many years my inspiration comes from the international runways and the elegant icons that work the red carpets. I love all the magnificent, wonderful women who are in their sixties and the way a dress can add so much style so simply.

What are the latest trends and fashions that you love?

I love a little black dress, I love lace and colour and some of the terrific prints that define the season. But most of all I love the fact that I have a range of dresses for every time and place – that all have sleeves!

Shame – another opportunity missed – love the sleeves idea – but these dresses are not nearly long enough to cover the knees!! Another pet hate of taller more mature ladies. Surely a choice of lengths would have covered all heights; shorter and taller ladies. Oh well – I may have to start my own fashion range

Absolutely loved Lesley’s range of dresses but as a disabled person I cannot wear heeled shoes so tend to wear trousers and tops. I was wondering if Lesley would add to her collection a range of “with sleeves” tops as her dress designs would definitely lend themselves to just being shorter as tops. I would definitely be an eager customer as I am so fed up with sleeveless and cap or really short sleeved tops. I think I probably have all three types of bingo wings that fitness instructor described Lesley lol I will watch your future shows to see if you are able to do a range of tops.
