Is it just me that when the repaint is required, I find it impossible to redo it in the same colour? I did that once. Hall, stairs and landing all beautifully redone in one of our houses in the SAME shade. I was utterly underwhelmed afterwards, all fresh, all fabulous, and all paid for! But it didn’t FEEL all new and exciting. The trouble is when that means curtains/ accessories may have to change Dan starts to make noises…
The current dilemma is about the bathroom (now take a deep breath and read this next bit in one go without pause).
“I do still love the lilac shade it is, but never loved the curtains I got as couldn’t find what I really wanted, so they were the classic “ they’ll do for now”. My sister-in-law recently gave me her cast-offs which are much more what I originally had in mind, but they are like limp lettuces hung at the window, so it’s a no. Maddie’s previous curtains COULD transfer but then a new colour is required on the walls, which will then be tooooo similar to the current colour of the hall, stairs and landing… I want to start again. Dan however has just said: “Let’s repaint the same and keep the original curtains as there’s nothing wrong with them….”. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! There isn’t anything wrong with them… BUT…” (now breathe again!)
So, paint swatches aplenty and only tomorrow to make a decision, oh and I’m not a blind or shutters kind of gal! Fabrics, furnishings, drapes… that’s my kind of heaven.
Actually autumn does mean we turn our attention to inside our homes more I think, and at QVC we have already started to think about the hunkering down, candles lit, snuggling evenings ahead. Cozee Home, our much loved range, has a perfectly timed Today’s Special Value on Monday 24th. It’s a fab bedspread which has faux mink in a nice simple boxed patterning on the top side and an ultra-fluffy reverse side. It’s suitable for all beds, with more overhang on the single of course and there are six colours to choose between. We have Mauve, Teal and Purple, these rich jewel tones are the designer favourites, and softer neutrals of Silver Grey, Taupe and Rose Smoke that should subtly blend with any decor, even the gold glitter wallpaper of Maddie’s new bedroom! Now that was a wonderful redecoration! She had me at “gold glitter“ and yes she had new curtains… nah nah nah nah nah, Dan!
Snuggling down inside aside, one must not neglect the power of the outside; a brisk and breezy walk, a coffee outside whilst watching the ever changing landscape. These are so good for the soul, let alone the endorphins which I fear may choose to hibernate. We’ve gotta keep them jostling like corn kernels popping and retain our joy and happiness during this season, who’s with me?
I stumbled upon this this passage by George Eliot which sums up autumn wonderfully: “Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love – that makes life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migration, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.”
Whilst I’m not a devotee of autumn (like George clearly was …) it was a beautiful read and makes me think differently about this time of year.
Something that has excited me is about the season change is the fab fashions at QVC. In social media speak I got a haul. In our speak, I had a lovely delivery of some superb clothes, everything from the Vince Camuto Panama hat, the Nick Verreos trousers, a lovely bit of Baukjen and Ghost. I wore a lilac Ghost dress on air this week with Bronx boots just to make it edgy, well as edgy as I can be! LOVED the colour (same as my hollyhocks) and the compliments I received were lovely.
But there was unfettered excitement bubbling inside as I opened my delivery of the Moda in Pelle Belista sock boot (coming soon for you!), she is off the Richter scale, call me shallow but… LOOOOOOOK, are they not delicious! Oh I so shan’t be kicking up the leaves in these babies… but! I now cannot wait to get into the boot!
Oh by the way, the antibiotics are kicking in… I think, and I even managed a lovely lunch out with my gorgeous girls at a fabulous restaurant in King’s Cross. I really need to be rid of this lung infection ahead of flu season for sure, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your kind messages whilst I’ve been feeling low level rubbish for what feels like forever, it’s so uplifting to hear from you, whether it’s here, or on Instagram or Twitter so THANK YOU all.
Lots of love,
