Hawaiian Affair- Debbie FlintThis week –

– Plus the usual snippets and sneaky peeks

– And film review – The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann style – incredible movie!

Amazon PagePROUD DAY

Well it’s finally here – the launch of my serialised eBook on amazon – my very first romance novel is now available for your delight and delectation! Up till 4am the other night I was, all on me loansome, formatting and editing for all I was worth! Well the end result is finally available – the first instalment of my very own story I’ve been boring you all with for months! And since so many of you kind people have said you’ve been awaiting it, I’m making it the headline for this week! And thank you in advance, if you are kind enough to get it – do let me know what you think if so!

All you need to do, is go to amazon, search for my name, and click on the book, Hawaiian Affair (or follow the link below) – and if you’ve never ordered before, just fill in the form and you will be able to read it within minutes!

For those that don’t know, there’s a very useful link here telling how you can read an eBook – not only on Kindle, or on your smartphone, but also even just on your normal computer. So basically, if you can read this blog, you can download my eBook!

If you just have a laptop, go here to download the Kindle for PC/MAC free app. This one’s for windows 8, but they do windows 7 and mac too – so you can read ebooks on your laptop! Simples!

If you’re a prime member you can ‘borrow’ it for free don’t forget. And you can also request a free sample. So go for it! For those that want to wait, however, the paperback will also be available but at the end of June, also via Amazon.

Hawaii pics and dogTHE STORY

To whet your appetite, apart from another fabulous Hawaii sunset pic from Ray Masters here, below you will find the ‘blurb’ about the book – does it make you want to buy it? Let me know.

Don’t forget that it does become a little bit steamy in future instalments! BUT the news is that part of the reason why I’m serialising it is so that I can offer an alternative ‘close the bedroom door’ – tamer – version of the steamy chapters!

So next week’s will have two options – be sure and choose the right one! Lol.

“Single mum and would-be businesswoman Sadie Turner, PhD, needs an investor – and fast. Nothing can stand in her way – she's even on a man-ban till she proves her critics wrong and stands on her own feet financially. Now, with this life-changing deal on the table, success is finally within reach. But she only has thirty days to sign the contract, so the race is on.

Mac is a playboy billionaire with an appetite for extreme sports and supermodels. So where does curvy Sadie fit in? After all, he has a rule never to mix business with pleasure. A mistaken one-night stand leads to the most incredible board-room showdown, and the start of an adventure which takes them half way round the world. But can they seal the deal – and stay out of love – within the deadline?”

So if that’s whetted your appetite, do go here to check out the first instalment on amazon! And see book section of blog below for more feedback from beta readers.

Amongst all the frantic last minute editing and formatting this week, I still managed to go with good pal Shyama to another one of our occasional pub quizzes. And you know what? I really don’t know why I bother! Lovely to see my mate, as usual, but OMG WE WERE RUBBISH! Lol! Mind you, questions did include ‘what are all the US States’ and ‘name the battle that happened 19 days after the Battle of Stamford Bridge’ (Hastings, if you didn’t know! We didn’t!). Two teams knew all 50 US states, so in the end we just gave up. And came sixth. Of six. Hehe!

Mind you there were only two of us and we were only 3 points shy of being 3rd so it wasn’t too shabby. But I have to say, apart from catching up with Shyama, the best part of the evening was the plate of houmous. Nuff said. Lol!

BLOOPER – ok so it’s only a diddy one, but since it was my pal Craigy playing around and teasing Richard Jackson, I just couldn’t resist! Funny! From one of Richard’s fab Chelsea Gardening shows which have been running all this week on QVC!

Still to come – The Great Gatsby review and trailer, plus fancy a Jo Fairley tip for the top in a new beauty range?

– my weekly look at all things book!

Including recommending a great eBook illustrator, and two free amazon kindle books to help you self publish.

Book of the Week – well, books – two free ones from kindle for anyone wanting to find out how to do what I’ve done and actually upload the books yourself to ‘self-publish’ them.

Book of the weekBook of the week 2

A lot of authors are now doing it – like Jessica Hart, one of my favourite Mills & Boon writers, who’s just launching her ‘vintage’ collection. Just download these two ‘how to’ books for free, as they have almost all you’ll want to know about how to do it – even including pictures of which buttons to press on Word, to format your work prior to uploading! Then you go to KDP – Kindle direct Publishing, and Amazon’s Author Central sites, to do the rest. Good luck! Let me know how you get on!

AngelaFocus on Angela Oltman – successful Canadian eBook illustrator

And of course you’ll need a cover – as they say, people really do judge a book by its cover! So I thought long and hard about mine. I have to say, a big thank you to a lovely helpful lady and superbly talented illustrator, Angela from Based in Canada, she offered me half a dozen options using my guidelines and synopsis, and we whittled it down to the final blue skirt and shoes cover above. I nearly chose another one with black shoes kicking heels in the air, laying on a jetty, but I think I may use that for a sequel!

I’d highly recommend her if you are thinking of creating an eBook. We’re now working on the wrap-around cover for the paperback which will be going up onto Amazon’s Createspace service at end June. (which is a ‘print on demand’ service – more news about that in a few week’s time.)

Alternatively, why don’t you just find some covers you love, and research who created them in your genre – lots of people are doing it now, and they’re very affordable. My whole lot including all the parts too, was very well priced and much less than I thought it’d be! I’m now recommending her to all my friends!

Debbie’s First Novel – thanks to my facebook group ‘Debbie’s Readers’

I really don’t think I would have been as far along this year without the help and feedback of a lovely supportive group of about two dozen ladies on a facebook group run by lovely pal Sharon Harvey. They all helped me with comments, proofing and feedback. Here are a selection of comments from them about the book, which of course they’ve all read! (Well, it’s only been tweaked a bit since they read it so it’s nearly the same!).

And I had another lovely critique from fellow presenter Alison Young – she went out of her way to email it to me – yes, to email! (Ali emailing is no mean feat!). Now, for anyone reading this and downloading the book in instalments to read for the first time, I’d love to have your feedback too!

In fact, it’d be great if EVERYBODY who reads it could kindly leave me a comment below! I can dream, can’t I? It’ll help me with my next book, to know which bits you like and which you don’t! lol.#

Thanks again to all of you who’ve commented so far!

FROM OUR BEAUTY EXPERT ALISON YOUNG (a secret vacation romance reader!)

“In February I read Deb's book on holiday – what a fabulous day I had. I couldn't put it down! I read it in one day whilst hubby Simon sunbathed – he thought I was working!! Be warned it does have raunchy bits! And a romantic storyline that reads like a Danielle Steel. If I had purchased it at the airport I would have been pleased with my choice – pure escapism, not too taxing but thoroughly enjoyable. I look forward to her next book and another relaxing day!”

How lovely of Alison!

FROM MY BETA READERS GROUP – so grateful for the following feedback and comments on my novel Hawaiian Affair, which they all helped me proof read in the final stages.

Joy Shipley – “Very addictive reading, superb characters play the field in this romantic & highly humorous – and quite steamy! – book. Excellent read with great storyline, leaving you hooked.”

Michelle Roberts – “This book got me hooked from the first page to the point I couldn't wait to read the next page, strong characters with a good plot, romance and passion set in a beautiful location the perfect book to chill out with and switch off from the world from a while. Would highly recommend!!!!”

NEXT WEEK – part two – and a choice of ‘adult content’ or ‘close the bedroom door’ versions!

Go here to get part one

Ps Email me at to go on the mailing list for updates.

SNIPPETS – now for some behind the scenes events from the past week on and off QVC!

Snippet– Michael Perry’s issued a presenter challenge! A Lily-growing contest! Now many of use presenters are highly competitive so you can imagine all the sneaky use of Richard Jackson’s plant food! Lol! Will keep you informed.

Like Claire (hers are pictured from her tweet this week) I just planted mine at the end of this week!

The judging will happen in July. Wish me luck! And if you’ve got any tips (apart from plant food!) let me know below!

Lara's bday snippet– Must just say a very happy 7th birthday to little Lara, my brother Glenn’s eldest, who reminds everyone so much of me when I was little!

Old head on young shoulders they said! Well don’t worry Lara, you revert when you hit middle age – now they tell me I act like a kid! Lolol!

Lol and nick– I saw my daughter Lolly four times this week! Wow! That’s more than I did in a couple of months, when she was living in Bath! I do like having her close again! Wednesday nights is becoming a bit of an Apprentice TV viewing and dinner routine! And I liked meeting them (pic) and my kids’ dad and his new wife Nikki in Dorking recently when they popped down to see Lauren’s new place in Godalming. (I promised I wouldn’t feature the pic of Tony and Nikki!) But it’s nice to have a catch up, every so often. And nice to be amicable. I’m known for it in our family! Best way, I say!

– Now this is a must-see for EVERY woman out there. Just click on it and you’ll see why! All I can say is – errr, this works! Fab concept, and hot men – what more could a girl ask! Hehe! And considering QVC’s links to BCC, a worthy inclusion this week!

Albert Einstein– Facebook saying – and finally a fab Facebook saying. Considering the Hawaiian theme, I thought this crazy Einstein was the perfect finale to this week’s snippets – and the saying itself makes such sense! It’s only taken me three years to complete my novel, so there’s always a way, I say!

WATCH – OMG OMG one of the most spectacular movies of the year so far, maybe of the decade, The Great Gatsby, is this week’s ‘watch’. Firstly, if you loved Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge!, you will love this. It’s very much style fighting with substance, as opposed to ‘style over substance’, but for me, I adored the feast for the eyes that is his particular OTT technique. But whatever you think of the direction, the performances are remarkable. I always love Carey Mulligan anyway, Leo was superb, as was Tobey Maguire, and the supporting cast all hit the mark. I would absolutely go see it again, maybe in 3D this time. It’s more a cinematic roller coaster than a film, so it won’t be for everybody, but he couldn’t just remake the Robert Redford version, so good for Baz. A thumping 8.5 out of ten.

If you have seen it too, what did you think? Leave me a comment below. Here’s a little flavour of what it’s all about…

Ps – NEXT WEEK – Colin Firth’s latest DVD, Gambit!

MelvitaQVC SNEAKY PEEK – This week something quite new to our health and beauty choices – Melvita – it means life and honey apparently, and is an organic brand, one of the biggest French pharmacy ranges and part of the L’Occitane family. There’s a wonderful new guest called Simon, who’s extremely knowledgeable and he was whisked onto Alison’s live shows straight away recently, with three items, following their success in winning a CEW award for Eco range.

One of their products is featured in the Anti-Ageing Beauty Bible, and another, pictured, has made Jo Fairley (AABB editor) say this item has made her introduce an extra step into her face routine – it’s the Extraordinary Water, making waves (ahem!) in the beauty press currently. Now, you will have to look out for the recording I did this week with Simon, cos it’s all going on our prerecorded channel, QVC Beauty, launching on 1st June! Very affordable it is too and well worth a try.

212054QVC – Shhhh! Insider Secret! I also this week recorded some other inserts for the beauty channel featuring my favourite products including a long chat with Will. It’ll all be going on QVC Beauty, to be found on Sky – 24 hour skincare, tools, cosmetics and tips! And that leads me onto a little date for your diary – if you’ve always wondered about my own desert island must-haves, I’ve been chuffed to be asked to present a beauty show packed full of my own ones. It’ll be on QVC live at midday on Sunday 9th June! Can’t wait! It won’t feel like work, that’s for sure – do join me if you can. And meanwhile, tell me some of YOUR faves by leaving a comment below. What could you absolutely never do without? And why?

One of mine is Cleanse and Polish, which of course I’ve been using for as many years as it’s been going, since I was there at the launch on QVC about 18 years ago! BTW, if you’re quick, this bargain (212054) may still be on birthday treat 3 crazy EZ pay instalments, from my show on Monday evening with Caroline the guest, when the makeup came off my face at the end of the show – again!

Laptop TSVQVC – COMING UP: The week ahead will feature some great shows, including Saturday (25th) hi tech – I’ve got two shows in the evening including the new HP Envy TSV laptop!

Susan Graver’s also back then – I love that lady!

Then I’m off till Tuesday but don’t miss Decleor’s all day special on Sunday (26th) too. And on Tuesday night at midnight I’ll be launching a fabulous Le Sak tote bag – great for summer!

Decleor TSV

The sak

And if you missed seeing lovely Ralph with Honora, maybe you can treat yourself to his QVC 20th birthday treat earrings – including in QVC purple! This set of 3 pairs of studs is 607969.

Next week – part two of Hawaiian Affair will be out, including some saucy bits! It’s not quite 50 shades of Gray, but maybe 7 or 8! Hehe! But the CBD version will also be available, never fear!

Have a great bank holiday and don’t forget to go sample my book on amazon – even if you just take a look at the free sample you can download to kindle! Or just read it on your computer. Enjoy – it’s been a big week for me! And one of the most pivotal ‘TiFFT’s *’ of my life so far!

Thanks so much to everyone who’s shown an interest in my writing – I much appreciate it!

Best wishes and have a great week!

Ps *TiFFT = Try it For The First Time!

Hiya Debbie hope you are ok. Congratulations with the book after all that hard work & anticipation ! Just booked my two week hols to Rhodes in August so I am going to wait for the paperback & read it there , I will be checking to see if I spot anyone else with it. The cover is stunning , it could be you posing in your heels ha ha ! I will look out for your desert island beauty show; my favs are also Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish & her exfoliator, Opi Nail Envy & Avoplex oil & Loccitane hand cream. I do enjoy pub quizzes when I go but I agree the questions are usually ridiculous, I am only any good if there are questions about 80s music ! I do have an idea for a show that might make you giggle; I used to love the Saturday night shows with differnt guests ( was it called Anything Goes?) I would LOVE to see Ybf Stacey on same show as John Barrowman, can you imagine ?? What do you think ? Have a great weekend
Love Mandy moo (stripy cows ) x x

Haha! Same! About 80’s music! That pub quiz with shyama had a music round from the young early 30’s guy’s own iPod and the only one we got was ‘I am the music man’ by black lace! Hahaha!
Funny idea for a show – Stacey and John – who would eat whom alive eh! Lol
Glad you’re awaiting the paperback! Hope it’s a fab holiday read!
Thanks for a lovely comment on here! Do come back again!
    Best wishes

Looking forward to reading Hawaiian Affair, but I will be waiting for the paperback so that I can take it on holiday in August. You will have to post on your blog when it will be available.
Speaking of ‘tifft’s’ have you ever been to a murder mystery night? I’ve been to a couple and they are good fun!
    Enjoy the weekend.

    Hi Debbie
Many congratulations on your book, I know how hard you have worked on it, goodness knows how you fitted in writing a book with your QVC work talk about dedication !!!!!!!
One beauty product I use daily is Gayle Haymans lip lift I have loads of them dotted about in handbags, coat and jeans pockets, I have always suffered with dry lips and horrendous cold sores but since using this product for many years I hardly get any cold sores and cracked lips, it’s amazing stuff and I would say it’s the only product from QVC I can’t life without ( not counting Ronnie Nicole dresses and Kipling bags) but we won’t go there !!!!!!!
How nice to have your daughter living close to you again, Lauren looks such a happy young lady and I can imagine the two of you have great fun together.
I’m hoping my hubby will take me to see the Great Gatsby this evening as none of my friends are interested in seeing it so he has drawn the short straw in accompanying me and he can pay LOL. I will repot back, I’m really looking forward to seeing it.
My dance classes are still going well Debs and I can do a Jive of sorts now and this week we are starting the LIndy Hop should be interesting !!!!!
Thank you for another great blog.

    Alana –
no I havent’ but I intend to! I kind of did one once, when I was working in finance and their xmas party had a little one, but it’d be great to go the whole hog and do the dressing up thing too at a big old country house! Must look into it. Goody the model, my pal, has said she’ll come with me! Looking out for one on groupon… keep me informed if you know of any hon!
And thanks so much for wanting to read the paperback! Am thrilled so many are interested!

Gatsby – did you go, did you go? What did you think?
Lindy hop – OMG I cant even jive so it would be a lifelong ambition to learn how to do that and be thrown around by some big strong partner (they’d have to be strong to throw me around! lol) but you never know – stranger things have happened! Perhaps if I lose another two stone… Perhaps I should go back to my Till The Fat Lady Slims way of freedom eating, but incorporating macrobiotics! It’s a fascinating time right now, for me, that’s for sure! Just have to remember to relaaaaax!

Love Bee x

Debbie – you are one very clever girl – your first novel is brilliant – albeit a little hot hot hot in parts!!! it has a great story-line which keeps the reader interested and personally I could not wait to turn the pages to see what happened next. Its got some scientific content which is good, so its not just a Mills and Boon type romance, its a really good deep read and you describe the characters and backgrounds so well that the reader is in the book with them. A great first novel and I personally cant wait for the next one. Bring it on !!! Ann xx
