Debbie does Santa Monica, Antthony, MIB3 and good grub!

Debbie at Santa Monica pierWriting from sunny LA, here's this week's update for you all!
– Santa Monica sightseeing
– Lunch with designer Antthony – and his new TSV on the 27th!
– Good grub – no-one does it like they do it in America!
– And 'Men In Black 3' – what did YOU think?

Santa Monica sights
The first thing to say about my holiday here in LA is that, staying in Santa Monica, you get the best of both worlds – seaside freshness in the air, but still great weather.

We're a stone's throw from 3rd Street, very famous for its street performers and restaurants, as well as some fab shopping. Have met up with lots of pals and I've had some amazing meals, and some wonderful entertaining experiences.

Debbie by the hotel poolThe hotel was an old fashioned 1930s 'suites' type of place – quite big, a kitchenette (perfect for preparing me miso soup each morning!) and a lovely little kidney shaped pool – soooo warm I can't tell you! Went for a swim most mornings! The weather wasn't too hot before midday, then the sun burned off the cloud and it got scorchio!

Entertainer on 3rd St in Santa MonicaLoved going down to 3rd Street – one of the entertainers was a real star – such good banter with the crowd and a cool acrobat's six pack to keep us girlies amused too! He was one of many lining the street every twenty yards or so all the way down 3rd Street.

I loved visiting Universal City, and The Grove – where I had lunch with Rob Locke (more of that in next week's blog), including having a quick ride on a fab Debbie rides the trolley buslittle trolley bus – proper old green open-topped tram number – and even tho' the ride was only about six mins long, I loved it! Felt all summery and happy in my white sun hat and Kim & Co flowery dress too!

But the highlight of my week has to be meeting up with Antthony – the wonderful designer and all round good guy who's based in LA. He's due back on QVC in the UK with a new Today's Special Value on 27th next week – don't miss it!

He and I had a fabulous (healthy!) lunch on the seafront in an old 1930s art deco hotel called The Georgian – it's turquoise, and near the pier – ever been there?

Well, not only did I manage to stick more or less to my macrobiotic principles, I also loved having a good old gossip and a catch up with him. He kindly did us a little video so you can see where we were! Apologies for putting my finger over the microphone at the end, but you'll get the gist! Lol.

Debbie in her Antthony TSV topHe's back with a two piece floral cami and kaftan set! Here I am wearing it outside in one of my LA days – right by shopping Mecca, the Beverly Center! And no, before you ask, I didn't succumb… too much anyway! Ever been there?

Such a wonderful time. Next week, an update on when I met Rob Locke. Plus news of the Marlene's macrobiotic competition! Do come back for that!

Film City
Now of course it goes without saying that Hollywood would be filled with film talk. So, thought I'd include a little film review about 'Men in Black 3' – still doing the rounds out here. Now Mr Back-of-my-Tandem (a screenwriter) would say that it was Will Smith phoning it in, and the script had too many unlikely events. But if it stars Will Smith, it already has me right there. And if it includes a bit of a time travel storyline, then that also gets it marks without me having even seen it!

But basically, if you enjoyed the originals, you'll like this. I think they've done a good to considering it was a third outing for the suited ones, and Josh Brolin is amazing as a young 'K', Tommy Lee Jones. Loved Emma Thompson, specially her alien impression – elements of 'Mars Attacks'! Anyway it gets a good 8 out of ten from me. I'd say yes to the cinema, but also get it on DVD if you can't go. Well worth a watch.

Next week, am hoping to get to see 'Snow White and the Huntsman' – the gossip out here is that Charlize Theron makes the film and it's brilliant. Special thumbs up from Antthony too, about the costumes!

OK, that's it for now. Normal format next week, when I'm back on my own PC! Hope you like the pics! There would be a lot more, but as you'll recall, I'm being limited at the mo to help out the lovely web team as they've got a ton of work to do till August on the new web site development.

Next week – ex-QVC presenter Rob Locke in Hollywood – his secret to making a living as an actor out here! He's doing well and looks great, bless him!

Don't forget to tell me what you think of Antthony's fashions – do you love them or what? And don't miss the TSV with him on 27th – I'm on with him mid afternoon! Assuming it lasts till then – it's lovely!

Dear Debbie, I loved reading your blog and seeing the pics/video of your trip out here to sunny California. I’m a Cali girl too, but I live in the San Francisco bay area. I’m a big fan of Antthony and his designs for almost 18 years. I have the closets to prove it..LOL. We Antthony Angels in the states love to watch his shows on QVC UK. We are so happy that you have all fallen in love with Antthony and his designs. Facebook has brought us all closer too. We will be watching on the 27th as he brings another marvelous TS. Much love and luck to all of you.

Hi Debs, wow that sounds great and brings back happy memories for me.I spent 6 months in LA several years ago and would often go to Santa Monica pier with the kids and eat shrimp,so good.!!I think you either love the USA or loathe it and I fall into the former catagory, anythings seems possible there and it’s easier to look good with the wonderful climate.I yearn to go back having read your blog and the only thing that puts me off is the length of the flight and coping with immgration when I get there. How come you dont look, and didnt sound jet lagged last night?
Great to have you back though.
    Love Christel xx

Wow Debs…Just read your blog re your jaunts in Santa Monica – you and Antthony certainly are a great double act! and you certainly have a talent for enjoying everything you do and also for succinctly putting things on paper – you looked prety glam too, mind you your eyes and the cheeky smile give you a headstart. Have you guessed I’m one of your fans? I reckon the ringtone on your ‘phone should be “Nobody does it better”.

Christel how lovely that you were lucky enough to actually live there for a full half a year. And how wonderful you shared it with the kids – bet they’ve got some lovely memories hon! Mine came with me ten years ago nearly and have the same fond recollections of Santa Monica and LA. My tips for less jet lag – specially considering I had virtually no proper sleep on the ten hour flight sadly – is drink tons of water, very little rubbish (wheat, dairy, sugar, alcohol, coffee etc) and then i had a couple of hours late afternoon then went into work. Meditation helps too! i’d say ‘lucky me I guess’ BUT i crashed on Monday, my day off! and ended up nearly putting the kettle in the fridge at one point! haha! On air adrenalin got me thru tho, but thanks for noticing! Best wishes and do write again!

Jill – still catching up on the sleep hon to be honest! Hope you enjoyed Antthony’s shows – he was good fun as always. So glad you felt the same about MIB3 – I agree about the end and didn’t see it coming that …. oops, nearly gave it away! Just in case anyone else is going to watch it, I wont say, but you know which bit I mean! Do write again!

Lee – am so flattered! How kind of you to say so hon – thank you very much! Not sure about the ring tone tho – am sure there are plenty who can! lol.
And as for the eyes – right now, they’re still a bit piggy due to lack of sleep over the last few days since I flew back and went straight back into my shifts on air! But I’ll make up for it! thank you again and do feel free to write again sometime!
