Gary Barlow, Cirque du Soleil, and sneaky peeks!

Debbie with Brad at the Royal Albert HallThis week –

– Showtime! Cirque du soleil with my son

– And Gary Barlow (Corrr!) with my sister

– Plus follow me and I’ll reward you with sneaky peeks!

– Including a peek at the Kipling and Liz Earle upcoming bargains!

– And my regular film review – Knocked Up! On DVD and a score for Quartet.

How lovely my son is! One of his thoughtful xmas gifts this year was two tickets for him and me to see the incredible Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall. When I opened the tickets I gasped, then my face fell when I saw the date – the same day as I had arranged to treat my sis to a concert! Oh no!

Then suddenly all was well again as he’d only gone and booked the matinee! Thank goodness! So last Wednesday it made for a very hectic but thoroughly enjoyable day of shows.

Cirque act

Have you ever been? What did you think? It was the ‘Kooza’ show, which as usual features amazing feats of strength and balancing, with some utterly breathtaking high wire performances, and of course the usual clown antics.

One of my faves was the one pictured – with a double ended swing contraption which went round and round inside which two men turned, somersaulted and jumped – thrilling! Truly a circus for the 21st century. Search on youtube for more – there are loads of clips!

Oh how fun it was to then trundle quickly over to Hammersmith Apollo to meet up with my sister Linda Bignell ( the Red Carpet Manicure guest too!) to go see one of my favourite performers – Gary Barlow – he was fantastic I have to say.

The audience was – yes you can imagine – mostly thirties and upwards and mostly women, most of whom (including me!) knew most of the words to most of the songs! Even the earlier Take That ones! Lol!

Gary Barlow and James Cordon

One of the highlights was when James Corden surprised him and came on with Gary to sing the Comic Relief send-up version of Pray – where he’d played ‘fat Gary Barlow’! haha! I’m sure you can find a clip of THAT on youtube somewhere too – very funny!

I took many more pics of course! With my little Sony cybershot 10x zoom, my favourite camera of the moment, and it made our P row circle seats get a whole lot closer to the action.

I must say tho, I do like being nearer the front – are you the same? If I have to be at the back of a massive hall I’d rather not go – after all, big tellies and HD are so good nowadays! Haha! Just call me Grandma! Lol.

Especially when several people in front of us stood up and blocked out view – it meant everyone immediately behind them had to stand too, and my sis is only 5 foot tall! I said, next time, we bring our biggest platforms! Happily being an older audience they all sat down again most of the time.

I’d say ‘you know you’re getting old when’ – but to be honest, I’ve always been the same! I was the one who used to ask the music to be turned down, even when I was 18! I do hope there are some of you reading this who were the same – make me feel better and leave a comment below as I’m curious! Orwere you the life and soul? Loved loud music, banging concerts and dancing till dawn!?

Anyway a good time was had by all – including me – especially when Gary did his medley of slower songs. That and the swing section, and Forever Autumn, were my favourites.

What’s been your favourite concert ever? And why?

I was asked last week what my favourite blooper was of last year, and I have to say it is probably Glenn Campbell’s weather report finger Fail just before xmas.

But during a Michele Hope Outlet show, Tiffany our lovely model provided me with the first one of 2013 – well I did ask! Lol!

Lola Rose baby-Other news this week is that lovely Nicky G from Lola Rose had her little boy!

Here he is with big brother Freddie! He weighed six pounds. Bless!

Do tweet her and Justin best wishes via @lolaroseuk, where they will announce his name soon as they’ve decided it!

Hills in sunst-Well at time of writing the first heavy snowfall of the winter is falling across Surrey – and I was quite proud of some of the pics I’ve been taking!

This first one is very pretty – a nearby hill in the sunset. How pretty! Or as I said on facebook when I posted it – pwiddeeeee!

But then the snow came and before it got too heavy – my two choccie Labradors found it quite amusing to go frolic! Lol

Chiswick Park lake on ice

Mind you, Chiswick Park, where QVC is based, wasn’t spared the snow and frost!

This lovely pic was taken by Chas one of our sound guys and posted on facebook.

Am sure there are tons doing the rounds now it’s so heavy!

Scary Facebook picture

– and finally in snippets this week, rather than have a facebook funny, I thought I’d have a facebook Scary for a change!

Made my hair stand on end when I read this!

Enlarge it and see if you can spot it!

Well as promised, all those who follow me on twitter and facebook (see below) are now able to get little insights into what’s coming up.

Each week from now on, I’ll also try to post a couple on here! So do come back regularly.

And don’t forget for any queries about our schedule, look on the home page since the TV guide goes four weeks ahead, or email customercare_

WATCH– It’s rare that I’ll repeat one, but since I didn’t get to see Quartet I just posted the trailer, I had to tell you that I’ve now seen it and it’s excellent! Maggie Smith, Pauline Collins et al are all superb, tug at the heart strings and are well deserved of their 8.75 out of ten that I’m giving this charming British film about the home for retired musicians and the shenanigans these oldsters still get up to. Poignant and warm, funny and clever, I loved it. Do go see!

Sneaky peeks aside (see above) there are lots of days to look forward to coming up soon!

The Revitalash Todays Special Value bargain being one of them! Don’t miss this Saturday (19th) since it’s a three piece set – lash, brow and primer!

Lots of people have been asking whether there’ll be a low priced laptop soon and yes, it’s this Sunday! (20th) – such a great price too.

Hi Debbie,Oh how I missed you whilst you were gone. It’s good to
hear the family are all doing well. I love your shows because we are guaranteed an entertaining time and also you have kept to the old form of giving us the sizes and full details of everything you
are demonstrating. Love your blogs – just can’t get enough of them
as they brighten up my day – photos, film clips, tips and sneak
previews are so appreciated. Keep being the lovely person you have
always been – incidentally your sister is doing well too on QVC.
Could you let me know how Paul Lavers and his triplets are – miss his sense of humour andlittle asides – so entertaining – triplets
must be quite grown up now.

    Hi Debbie
I think you were talking today about the Slim-Be. I’d like to try it but am allergic to strawberries, do they do other flavours? Banana or vanilla would be good.
Also, is there any chance of getting the honora watch in white again? There are only black ones shown on-line.

I like the patterns in Kipling at the moment. I have7 purses, 1 suitcase, 2 pencil cases, 1 toiletry bag, 3 make up bags, 1 back pack and about 40 handbags from Kipling…..which isn’t anything like the number some of the people i have meet on Facebook have. Hi Debbie,
I always read your blogs, as they are so interesting, and always up-to-date. I have never posted a comment before, but as this one included the FABULOUS Mr Barlow, I just had to reply. I saw him at the Apollo in December. WOWWWWEEEE. He is amazing. I loved the more intimate venue…had a perfect view, even though we were at the back of the stalls. My Hubby came with me, and even he had to admit how fantastic the show was!!
Am looking forward to the Liz Earle TSV, and Kipling too, so thanks for sharing those with us. Along with Charlie Bears, they are my favourite brands on QVC.
    Keep up the good work…….

    Hi Debs,
Love Cirque de Soleil! I saw an ice version once. Amazing!! I can’t say I love Gary Barlow. In the minority I know but he annoyed me on X Factor. Never been a big fan of the show but this year Nicole was the only saving grace for me! And I’m NOT a fan of her music but she was very funny. Had loads of snow this week and hoping it goes soon but no sign!
Hope you have a safe week,
    Susan x

Hi Debbie not sure if this is your email that you gave us all from the Macrobiotic weekend?!
Just wondered if you fancied meeting up for a coffee and we can have a chat about “all things Marlene!!”
I could do with a bit of inspiration to kick start me with the food and recipes etc…..
Since our wonderful weekend in Dorking my father has been in and out of hospital and I seem to spend my days either at work or up at the RSCH and have precious little time to plan my meals etc……I have bought quite a bit of Clearspring items but apart from making the miso soup and the courgette and leek soup(which I love) my inspiration has taken a dive!!
I live in Chilworth so half way would be about Gomshall….have you tried the cafe there, my daughter and I went just before Christmas and its really lovely so maybe we could grab a coffee there sometime??
    Lots of love
Thought i would send this via your blog aswell just in case the email addy is not right!!
