My week and the winners of my competition…

Kathy and Ali Ali and Kathy on the shoot

Well it's been a few days since I've 'seen' you, and they've been pretty busy days too, but all good and I've managed to spend time – of varying lengths – with all three of my children which was nice 🙂 I also spent a very enjoyable Friday lunchtime too with Kathy Tayler and our Promotions team from work as they put together the title sequence for her new show!

I'm not going to give too much away but we got togged up in some fabulous fashion and then sat outside in the freezing cold with a glass of wine while the team filmed us. I had to put my coat on between takes but Kathy, being the consummate professional she is, managed not to shiver in just her very stylish leather jacket and shirt! I wouldn't say it was bitter, but we did have to break the ice on our glasses of wine! 🙂

Sonny WaltersLuckily there was a coal fire burning in the pub that Colin and his band played in on Monday and so Ali (the bass player's girlfriend) and I set ourselves up in position A – virtually on the hearth – and sat back to enjoy the music. The guys were excellent, and although there weren't that many people in the pub, they have secured a gig at the Cropredy Festival this summer which is marvellous!

And so that leads me very nicely into announcing the winners of the competition I set last week to give away three copies of Colin's album. The question I set was to guess the country singer Dolly Parton's age… and the answer was 67!! I know, hard to believe, but true nonetheless. Congratulations to Pearl Emery, Linda Marshall and Elaine Bishop whose names were pulled out of the hat by my lovely editor Bryony 🙂 Actually if you read the last paragraph of last week's blog, it sounded as though it was Bry's chest measurement I had contemplated asking you to guess… how very rude of me! 🙂

The bandI hope you enjoy the album, and for those of you weren't lucky here's a link to the band's Reverbnation page so you can hear some of the songs.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend, and I hope you enjoy a rather special posting this weekend about my daughter Lucy… it's in readiness for Mother's Day…

Lots of love, Ali xxxx

Hi Ali Sounds like you had some lovely enjoyable days. Colin’s gig sounds to have been a great night and another to look forward to, how good is that, must have given all the band a feeling of success and hopefully more gigs to look forward to. Hello Ali, They could have given you both a patio heater..! It’s wonderful to spend time with our “grown up” children, we are so busy when they are small people it is easy just to think about their well-being and behaviour rather than enjoy their company. I can remember the moment I looked at Bex and thought that as well as loving her to the Moon and back I also liked her, mind you at the moment I could do without her cat but that’s another story. Can’t wait to read all about Lucy in your next post, I wonder if..? Love from Jo x

    Hi Ali,
I haven’t read your blog yet but I just learned of Beuhla’s skin cancer? Is that right? That’s dreadful. It’s awful so many of us end up going through these things. Will you pass on our love?
I will sit down to read your lovely new blog now.
    Love SUsan x

Hello Ali – wonderful to get your catch up again and hear what you have been up to during the last week – sounds all great fun and we will be waiting to watch out for Kathy’s new show (lovely piccie of you both). Delighted that Colin and his gang have secured a gig – you must all be thrilled with this – does it make you and Ali groupies when you were sitting by the fire watching your guys playing?? Many many thanks for your info for my daughter – it really is gratefully received. She is feeling better this time quicker than the last session and although she is not bouncing it is the small steps that count and not the huge strides – if you see what I mean. I am very proud of her – she has never said “why me” or anything like that and has been positive throughout out and thinking at the end of all this she will have two new breasts (the other side will be nipped and tucked to match the false one!) rather than the large ones she was never happy with. I have said before but have to say again that we are so grateful for your words and help and appreciate this more than you can imagine – you really have helped me get through what for a mother to watch her daughter go through has been a most difficult time but also any woman who is going through the same now be assured your blogs will be helping.I know it is not just me who thinks this but all the other women – some who may read your blogs and never write but have taken the comfort you have given and of course the army you have had over the last few years who have been with you. I will be looking forward to hearing what your next week brings and will update on my daughter as we go along – take care and love Jillyxx

I just wanted to say that I am sorry for having given the impression that my blog about Lucy would have news of a ‘family’ event…..Sadly that isn’t going to happen now, and I guess the things I wanted to share with you were all to do with her constant kindness and caring… I don’t always write about her as she is a very private person, but it was with her blessing that I told you her news….. I do want to assure you that she is doing fine, and is moving on with her life, as is Richard. … I look forward to hearing all about your mum and/or daughters :). Love always, Ali xxx

My dear Babs, So sorry to hear that your mum has had a fall, but I am so relieved that she didn’t break anything. Please do congratulate her on her spectacular birthday – 99 years old! Magnificent achievement, made possible I’m sure, because of the love and support she gets from you and all the family. My news about Lucy is not quite what you were expecting sadly Babs, but she is doing well as you will read in my next blog. Take care and I do hope you don’t have to wait too long for the cake and wine! Love Ali xx

Linda really glad that you’re happy to have won the CD! I shall let Colin know and will make sure that I list wherever he’s playing just incase it’s somewhere close by to your home and you could come and join us! Take care and I hope you have a good week, Love Ali xx

Martin I think I could learn a thing or two from you about relaxing! So glad that your two weeks are going well, and even happier that we’ve had some beautiful weather for you to hopefully enjoy. Yes it was sad to hear Julia’s news, but such a relief to know that the medication she is taking will enable her to lead a normal life. We’re all doing well this end, and hope you are too, love Ali xx

Now Jo, why didn’t I think of that!! Patio heaters are so fabulous aren’t they? My Centigrade coat did the trick too, and I loved watching the promo go out on Sunday night with Kathy looking gorgeous as ever 🙂 We now live just 20 mins from each other so it’s easier to spend time together. I bought a copy of the ‘Loving you to the Moon and Back’ for my grandson Ethan…. it says it all really doesn’t it :)I’m sorry that the news you were hoping to hear isn’t the case, but my girl is cracking on with her life anyway…. You take good care, and thanks as always for writing, love Ali xx

Hello there Jill – lovely to read your comments, and I like you will be watching Kathy’s new show today, and I know she’ll be great 🙂 Does sleeping with the lead singer of a band make me a groupie!!! Not sure, but sounds good! 🙂 I am so pleased to hear that your daughter is feeling better so much faster this time, and hopefully that means that her final chemo will also take less out of her. She seems to have rallied really well, and I am delighted to hear that through this miserable course of treatment she will end up with the breasts she always wanted! Wonderful 🙂 (it might be worth her seeing a couple of surgeons before she makes her final decision… they often have different ideas) unless of course she is completely happy with who she knows. You have been so kind in your words to me, and honestly have nothing to thank me for. To feel that what has been cathartic to me, may have helped you, your daughter or anyone else in this rotten situation cheers me hugely – definitely a bonus! I feel as though you and your daughter are moving forwards in great strides, and admire her hugely for her attitude…. the ‘why me’ isn’t something I ever entertained either. Not because I’m noble, but more practical…. why not me? With the support and love I have been shown, and continue to be shown, there’s nothing I couldn’t do 🙂 You take care, enjoy your mother’s day, and put a very large tick in the box after this final treatment. Thank you Jilly, love Ali xx

Hello HB – not sure if you’ve written before, but thank you very much for your compliments about my hair! I thoroughly enjoyed my hour with Keely and the fab Elemis TSV. Nice to have my hair down for a change, and however tired I tend to feel when I first get to work, I always feel better for spending those hours on air 🙂 xxxx

My dear Gill, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but the ring on my wedding finger was Diamonique as I had forgotten to put my own eternity band on! No wedding bells for me – maybe one day 🙂 Love Ali xx

You are certainly eagle-eyed Jilly. As just mentioned to Gill, they were Diamonique rings cos I had forgotten to put my eternity ring on! They were too small to wear on my middle finger so I plumped for the fourth finger! No news I’m afraid 🙂 Love Ali xx

Susan, I am so sorry I missed your comment when I last read through this blog, but yes we too are all very sorry about Beulah…. she is being incredibly brave and positive, and is travelling to Spain each month for treatment that is not available in the country….we are all praying it will increase her chances. I will make sure she knows you sent her your best wishes, and thank you. love Ali xx
