Colours of the year in beauty

Big news! 2016’s Colours (yes plural) of the Year – as forecast by renowned colour authority Pantone® – are Rose Quartz and Serenity. Two beautiful soft hues that, as usual, are contemporary yet lend themselves so well to all aspects of our lives. Whether you’re looking to redecorate your home, see in spring in pastels or rework your make-up, these two shades are the colours to use.

On the choice of the two colours, Leatrice Eisemen, Executive Director of Pantone Colour Institute, said:

‘Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer, embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, re-electing connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.’

Apply this to cosmetics and nails, and we see the same ethos – Rose Quartz tones are nude, neutral with a hint of warmth and femininity, while hues reminiscent of Serenity give a cool and fresh edge.

Go for classic pinky nude nails with these shade from Nails Inc – Mayfair Lane NaikaleLexington Street Nailkale or Castle Lane Nailkale. Or try a cute pink shade from OPI – we like the Pink Nail Envy and Let’s Be Friends from the Hello Kitty range.

Or go for edgy chic with Duke Street Nailkale and Queen’s Mews Nailkale.

And keep an eye out for this duo, also from OPI which includes both of the colours of the year, launching in April – gorgeous!

Rose Quartz is easiest to apply to make-up – think nude with a hint of pink on lips – go glossy for a softer look (try this bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Gloss)  – and look out for a special collection from bareMinerals which will feature a product created especially to tie in with Rose Quartz – or go matte for an on-trend finish. The Nudestix Lip & Cheek Pencils are perfect for an all-over matte colour.

We also love these Laura Geller Lip Pencils for a neutral, matte hue. Outline with the tip for definition and then turn the pencil on it’s side and fill in your lips for a soft and contemporary look.

Or go a little out of the box and add edge to a natural look – keep the rest of your face a blank canvas and then line your eyes with cool pastel blue, such as Mally’s Evercolor Liner in Ice Blue.

The perfect way to inject some newness into your beauty look, these two shades work so well you can even wear them together. For a a subtle take team a Rose Quartz matte lip and with a line of Serenity around your bottom eye line. Or go all out with pastel blue eyeshadow – no longer the solid bright blues of the 1980s but rather a subtle pastel sheen of colour – go on, we dare you!
