The colour of the year …in Beauty

By now you may be aware that 2015’s colour of the year is is Marsala, as forecasted by renowned colour authority Pantone®. It’s also a wine – yum.

Seeking inspiration across the globe to find colour influences, Pantone® tends to look at colours pervading the creative sectors such as film, art and the entertainment industry.

With red-brown earthy roots and a pinky overtone (just like its delicious alcoholic namesake), Marsala is a natural full-bodied colour that is transferable across fashion, jewellery, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors, and of course beauty. Excellent for opulent fabrics and for adding rich tones to any room, seen in gemstones of garnet and ruby, and an on-trend seasonal shade for apparel, we happen to think that Marsala lends itself particularity well to beauty.

The perfect shade to complement any skin tone, whether adding a deep pinky blush to fair complexions, or a rosy hue to olive skin, Marsala works over a range of cosmetics, from lipsticks and glosses to blushes and even nail polishes.

These lip and nail sets from Gale Hayman and Leighton Denny are the perfect way to buy into two trends at once: the Marsala hue, plus co-ordinating your nail colour with your lips. These lacquer and lip sets from Joan Collins also allow you to do just that.

Lipsticks and lipglosses in sets of varying tones are the perfect way to find the closest shade of Marsala to suit you, or to vary your look from day to night. Try the Mally Evercolor Lip Lacquer Collection, or the bareMinerals Hydrating Lip Stain Collection.

We are also seeing beauty accessories and packaging tapping into this shade trend, such as this ybf Bright Eyes Collection, and this Leighton Denny nail file.

Try the Laura Geller Baked Gelato in Plum Berry, the Benefit Majorette Cream Blusher, the BECCA Beach Tint Summer Souffle in Watermelon/Moonstone for a dewy sunkissed effect, or  the bareMinerals Ready All Over Face Colour, which can be used on your cheeks, lips or even as an eyeshadow.
