Changes afoot in Devon and early bird links

0

Guess who is just out of shot in this photo from my daughter’s latest visit down to see me in Devon last week? Yes baby Phoebe! As you may know she is not allowed to be on social media or blogs but she is a beautiful red headed five-month-old who is just cutting her first tooth! We had a lovely day or so then I left them to it, Nick was building me a second en suite bathroom – he is so talented. And then he and Lauren were going to have a week on their own looking after my place for me and enjoying their time together.

Poor Phoebe is really struggling with her teething. But she is so beautiful and is just starting to roll herself over. And she loves going out for walks in the baby carrier which Lauren straps to her body so Phoebe can look out the front with a cute little hat with ears on!

I also had the chance to look after baby Blake who is 14 months, when I collected her early from nursery, on my day off this week. I really am becoming a regular grandma!  She is at the stage where she can sit in her highchair and quite happily throw everything on the floor! Good job she thought it was funny – and so did I. Mind you when she’s older I will get her to help me clear it up ha, ha.

Blake does not yet say Nan or Nan Nan or nanny, but she isn’t far off. She knows when I say ‘nanny Beeee!’ Because of my Diamonique bee pendant and she points to it, bless her. It won’t be long I’m sure!

SNIPPETS

Dartmoor horses

How beautiful these creatures are, as they roam across the moor in Devon. These appeared just inside the village of Belstone inside Dartmoor National Park – there was a beautiful little foal just having some dinner, chewing on the grass, as I drove slowly by him and his mummy. Despite the rain and the wind howling, they made for a beautiful scene.

Alix n Me go lunching

It’s that time of year with lots of AGMs and I had a couple last weekend – I helped out with some fundraising on the local associations and it’s a good way of making friends. Alix came with me, and we had some great speakers including the local Police Commissioner who is a woman and very impressive she is too. It has been a weird week in politics as many will know if they have been watching the troublesome debates but on a local level it’s nice to help out and make a difference.

House of Commons

Last week I was also invited to have tea in the House of Commons in London – my mum‘s partner David knows one of the MPs and he kindly showed us round. We were in the main gallery listening to Geoffrey COX MP (who happens to be my MP in Devon) giving his opinion about one of the Brexit votes. It is so historic in that building, we even stood on the spot where Charles 1st was tried, and went ‘behind the scenes’ spotting famous faces and I loved every minute.

A&E visit

This week I went to have an appointment at the osteopath because the back of my thigh was hurting – you may have caught me with flat shoes on, on the telly this week! Well it turns out it could have been a pulled muscle but it could have been because of my flight to the USA, which coincided with the time it started hurting, if I remember rightly. So with a little worried look on his face, Ricky sent me off to Saint Hellier hospital for a check-up. So I ended up getting full blood tests and a scan and fortunately no sign of DVT or blood clots and full bill of health. The doctor said it was the best blood tests he had seen all day, happily therefore it’s a pulled muscle and a lot more stretching in store for me! Whilst waiting, I sat next to a lady who turned out to be a lady called Nadira Miller who I went to school with! So we had a little catch up while I was there! Every cloud…

Watch

The amazing Richard Gere is on a BBC program you can watch on iPlayer. My sister told me about this one – and I must admit I see anything with Richard Gere in it. I blame An Officer and a Gentleman and Pretty Woman! ‘Father Mother Son’ is about a fractured family, at the heart of politics and power, pulled together through catastrophe. Looks really good!

Book of the Week

Orion Editorial Director Phoebe Morgan has just been down to visit me in Devon, and her new book The Dollhouse is doing really well – I have the audiobook as I love gripping psychological thrillers with a twist you won’t see coming. This one is all about a woman in who keeps getting bits of dolls houses turn up on her doorstep, then she realises someone must have been inside her house! Well done Phoebe, brilliant writing.

One of our previous writer guests also sent me their published novel this week too – Danielle Butler’s ‘Watermarked’ looks good on my guests’ bookshelf! It’s got a good by-line too – it’s about a girl who is isolated on an island near Maine, attracted to a local boy whose family are suspicious of her, and when her family’s secret comes out, they have every right to be. Hope this one comes out on audiobook as well!
