Hi all! I hope you’re doing well. I thought we had lost summer for good but it has returned with a vengeance! I am happy about that but I know a few folks who hate the hot weather. One being my bestie, Steven, and another, my son Tom… to name but two. If you’re feeling the heat don’t forget we sell Dyson hot and cool fans which will work for either eventuality and now is a good time to buy as we have our front page voucher offer on until September 16th. OK, I know those of you who are more seasoned QVC friends will have already heard us banging on about this but for the newbies… head here after reading this.
The past two weekends have been truly memorable ones for me. I’ll start with the most recent. Last Friday two of our Broadcast Directors tied the knot! Wow. What a gorgeous day that was!
Lots of QVC buddies, beautiful venue, stunning weather and to top it all off, my daughter and I went together.
Chrissie is now at university but she worked as a Director’s Assistant at the Q prior to heading off to Bristol so we share this fabulous friend group, too. We are very lucky as we love spending time together. I always treat us to a nice hotel with a pool so we can enjoy the night and then the next day, too, together. Lovely mum and daughter time.
What’s great is that she had a few days to spend with us. Us being me, my son, Tom, and our little sweethearts, Pixiecat and Popsiecat. We all had a lovely lazy time together watching movies in our PJs and generally just chit chatting, relaxing and loving the reunion. Many of you know I’ve mentioned before that my son is less keen on me singing his praises publicly than my daughter who doesn’t mind either way. Gonna see what I can get away with and mention that one of his many talents is finding great music and films.
My cultural horizons have certainly broadened as a result of him being a bit of a film and culture buff. We watched a film of Tom’s choosing called ‘Other People’. Wow. What a superbly acted, raw, real film about a family whose world is turned upside down by cancer. Believe it or not, there were some very funny moments in it as well as those which hit home the fact life is short and the people you love are everything. Not what you own, not how you look or how clean your house is. Those you love and who love you. That’s what it’s all about.
Marie and Christian, aka the bride and groom, are two very well-loved individuals. It was such an honour to share their special day with them. It shows that when I talk about the fact we are like family at QVC it really is the truth. We came from all over to be with them. Not just the UK, either! A couple of ex-colleagues who have emigrated to Canada even made it! So great seeing them, too.
Of course, me being me, I had to try on the bridal veil. Do you think it suits? Ha ha! My only complaint about the day is that we had so much fun we barely took any photos! Mine are, ahem, quite fuzzy… I may have also been slightly fuzzy at the point of them being taken. Luckily, lots of friends took pics so I can share a few with you. It could not have been a better day. Congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs.
Now, onto new friends. Kate will be a familiar face to QVC viewers as she presents on behalf of The Royal British Legion when we feature our Poppy Collection. Please see my recent blogs to find out more about this year’s appeal. I first met Kate in November of last year when we presented a show together. You know when you meet someone who you can tell is on your wavelength? Well, that’s exactly what I felt when we met. She does a wonderful job working for the Legion. She is well informed, respectful, caring and also… a tiny bit bonkers in the best way possible! I’d like to think a little like myself, ha ha!
Kate and her wife Michelle are animal lovers and, like me, recently became vegan. I had the opportunity to meet Michelle when we all met up for the annual official animal rights march in London. It was a very peaceful march with around 10,000 other like-minded folks. I say peaceful, it was, but it was lively and colourful. It was the first march any of the three of us had ever taken part in. Animals all over the world are terribly mistreated and I am a great believer in equality so it felt like the right thing to do.
Many of you will have read about my cats before but I know lots of you will forever be ‘dog people’. Kate and Michelle have four dogs. Look at these, the little sweethearts!
Oh how I’d love to adopt some dogs too, but the cats have given me strict instructions. Over their dead bodies! Mrs & Mrs Green are as bad as me, we soon discovered we all have a shared dream. Opening a sort of hippy commune/animal sanctuary! It could help humans and animals alike! I don’t think it’s gonna happen anytime soon but it’s a nice dream to have.
That’s not all we have in common. We just really all hit it off! We now message every day, mostly silly little videos we record to make each other laugh but, also, sharing vegan recipes is fun. We are in the process of planning a weekend together where they ply me with lovely vegan fodder and I get to cuddle with their pooches. I think I get the best end of the deal there!
Michelle is also a weight loss inspiration! Some of you know I have had my share of ups and downs on the scales so this was of great interest to me. She is a weight loss group consultant after losing a whopping 18 stone in weight! So impressive! Now she helps others to get healthy. Told you they were a lovely couple. There’s just something fab about meeting like minded souls along this journey of life. I have a feeling they are here to stay.
By the way, as my daughter and I are both vegan we don’t buy leather anymore but do buy a lot of Kipling. Always have done but even more so now! I thought it was cute to see our little cases travelling together on the way to the wedding so thought I’d take a piccie!
Thanks for reading this week’s blog. I always thoroughly appreciate your comments and the time you take to drop by.
Same time next week!
Love Catherine xx
