Celebrating a 13th an 8th and a 5th!

Last weekend we had my son’s 13th birthday followed by my stepson’s 8th. It was a weekend packed full with wrapping, cooking, baking and general chaos. If you’re with me on Twitter, you will have watched the progression of the Pokeball cake I did for Myles. It’s my most successful foray with fondant icing yet, thanks to my Cooks Essentials Silicone Sheet. The Lego brick cake I did a few years ago was the first time I’d used fondant icing and it was a hilarious operation to say the least, it went everywhere and in every shape, other than what I wanted!

I know we all say it so regularly, but my word how the time has flown and what an incredible part of my life it has been so far. Now I am Mum to a teenager… I’m not sure who is more excited about the prospect, me or him!

So that’s 13 and 8th, what’s the 5th we are celebrating? Well this one is connected to something I can’t be without, none of us can… sleep. Having two children born within 13 months of each other was exhausting and the busy factor hasn’t changed since. I love life this way, it’s colourful, adventurous, exciting and absolutely jam-packed with great stuff. However, without sleep, I just wouldn’t be able to function. I need at least eight hours every night to function well and with less than seven, I deteriorate at speed and am not able to be the Mum or person I like to be. My patience runs thin, my creativity dries up, my ability to make decisions goes out the window…. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about!

Five years ago This Works launched the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray which is the most wonderful aid to sleep. Since that time, I have given it to everyone I know who struggles with sleep. My mum, my best friend, my son when he was going through an anxious period…. and we hear from so many people about how this has transformed their ability to sleep. We have this lovely sleep collection available for less than £25 at the moment, launched to coincide with the five-year anniversary of the Deep Sleep Spray so if you or someone you know struggles with sleep, please give it a go.

However, if it’s a 13th birthday party sleepover that’s holding you back from sleep, I can’t make any promises! 😉

Much love,

Pipa x

Hi Laurie, I share the duties with a friend of mine as we are at the same yard so each week we discuss who is around, who can poo pick, do the feeding etc. However, when we get into winter, we go back into stables overnight and at that stage I pay for full livery as I can’t get there first thing in the morning to turn out and muck out as I obviously have the children to get ready for school …not to mention work. I manage to ride 3/4 times a week too which is great, I couldn’t do it if I worked full time though xx

PS …the children are happy to poo pick in the weekends which helps 🙂

My Pippa what a busy but fun weekend you’ve had. Make the most of it as you know time flies and they grow up so quickly. Your son looks so like you. I’m loving the cake – another string to your bow!
    Best wishes

Hi Denise, yes it seems to be accelerating now! Only last night, Myles said to me that he misses when our dog was a puppy and how he can see the importance of enjoying every stage ….I told him that’s just how I feel with him and Beely growing up too 🙂 xx

Oh lol I’m so not a baking whizz Susan, but thank you anyway! I think I put all my creativity in to Myles’s cake each year …being a boy, he’s always into something new so it’s quite easy to get inspired. Beely however, not so easy …it’s ballet and ballet ….and ballet! xx
