Can you help me choose?

Red top Coral top Purple top

It's been another very busy week for me, not so much at QVC but with preparations for my book. I received the copy edited manuscript last week with all the spelling and grammar corrections that had been made and trust me there were a few.

I needed to go through the whole book and accept or reject all the corrections or alterations made… quite a task when the book is 101 chapters long! I had made a start on that, about thirty chapters I think, but had to have a day off on Tuesday as I was having the cover photo taken.

I had organised it with Kathy's husband, who is a professional photographer and quite often does our publicity shots for QVC. He brought his equipment to my house and transformed our dining room into a 'studio' for the afternoon. I also had a professional make-up artist, Kerry September, who you may well have seen on air recently in the Liz Earle make-up show. It was something of a luxury for me as we normally have to do our own make-up at QVC unless we are doing a make-up show.

I was very pleased with the results, so much so that I can't decide which one should be on the cover of my book, I can't even decide which would be the best colour outfit, so I'm enlisting your help. Should I go for coral, red or purple? Obviously they will need to be touched up a bit… too many wrinkles for my liking but if you could let me know your fave it would be much appreciated.

Must dash as I'm on air in twenty minutes and I still have my rollers in.

Have a great weekend!

Much love, Julia xx

    Hi Julia
I’m like a bus!! nothing for ages then two one after the other!! Just had to put my tuppence worth in re your book cover – all three piccies are truly gorgeous – you inherited great genes Julia x Any one of the three would do you proud but when i study them for a few minutes surprisingly – for me – the coral wins? – for me it covers all the roles in your life (very glamourous)partner to Chris, mother to Daniel and Sophie, daughter to mum and dad, sister to Linda and your brother(sorry cant remember his name x),friend to many,a loyal CP fan and first class tv presenter at QVC and of course your own best friend(i would say the most important role?). Whatever piccies you chose Julia it will look fabulous on the front cover – all shiny and new!! I just got the feeling from you last blog that things might? have been a wee bit stressful and busy(maybe too busy!!) therefore as i’m feeling like that at the minute (long story!!) i always rely on the “what doesnt kill you makes you stronger” saying – long before the current hit!i may add x Stand tall Julia(well as tall as our 5ft 4in(your like me i always say 5ft 5in!!) stature will allow!! and big breath hun – survival is my(and i’m sure your) middle name remember x I so hope we are able to say hello in January – it would really make my day x Thanks for all the positivety re Rangers – i always check the CP score when i’m checking out the Rangers score(if i’ve not been able to attend) and always think “Julia will be happy/sad ” I’m sending you positive thoughts and a very big > – catch them! xx Love Linda,Glasgow xx

Not sure if we’ll get a white Christmas, however we did get a light dusting of snow the other day and it has been quite chilly here in the North.

    Hi Julia,
All the photographs are really nice, I like the purple, and I believe purple is your favourite colour. But I think the Coral makes you look the best, the colouring looks different somehow, it is hard to choose isnt it. Every ones taste is different, so I think it will be down to you in the end, or what one has the most votes.
Liked you in the blonde wig, but do not go that short as you have beautiful hair, and love the colour. I turned QVC on and I thought I recognise that person, and then realised it was you.
Glad you got your cake made, on with the other one now I guess.

photo with the coral top if that makes sense. The red top is lovely you remind me of a irish friend of mine with dark hair and your quite pale at the moment. Didn’t you say you were wearing purple on the back cover.? Don’t worry about wrinkles, it looks natural we all have them, people will only say photo has been airbrushed so leave alone.
Thought your wig looked great in the cinnamon colour, it really did take years off you Julia,my hair colour was a bit lighter than yours and went just 2 shades lighter, so glad i did, look younger, so i’m told. lol.Think about it,it will look lovely.
Hope you manage to choose the right photo.

  37. Annette Roberts December 11, 2012 at 6:45 am -  Reply

    Hi Julia
What a dilemma…they are all gorgeous photos, with no ‘touching up’ needed, because natural is best! As for which photo, I’m stuck between the red and purple and having had one last look, it has to be purple for me!
We watched your Ken Paves show with the short wig on and Chris didn’t realise who it was and said “That’s not Julia, but she sounds like her”, then he realised it was you and I have to tell you, like many who ‘tweeted’, he said the short style made you look younger!!! He hopes you take it as he intended, as a compliment…he said the same to me when I had, what I thought was 10″ off my hair, when in fact Chris said it was more like 12″. It was a big decision, but I’m soo glad I took the plunge, because of only using one hand to dry it with, I could only use the dryer alone and it fell into place without the use of a roller brush…thank goodness!
Saw the therapist at the Hospital yesterday and she was really pleased, but still no lifting anything heavy and definitely no typing yet, for another couple of weeks at least, so still one handed at the moment!
Here’s hoping we’ve all helped you make your decision as to which photo you use…they are all fab!!!

Hello Julia, Well all the photo shots are very good, but in my opinion the red one is a clear winner, you look stunning and it really compliments your hair , please are we able to know what your book is about or will it be sold on QVC and when is it likely to be in the shops, have loved all the shows on QVC in the run up to Christmas, your shows are always honest, and you present in such a way, to make us feel confident in what we may purchase, also Kathy has done a wonderful job on The Morning Show, she has become quite an inspiration to me, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, I cant quite believe its going to be 2013 and that I shall be 60 years old on the 24th Janueary, when we got married and then had our three children, 60 seemed a number in the future that I was well away from but now the years have gone by so fast, where has this all gone, these years seem to roll around even faster, I also think its the fast pace of life that we all lead, anyway hope you sort out which photo you like at the end of the day, Love from Janicexxx

    Hi Jean
It felt very strange wearing the short wigs, particularly in two colours which are so far from my own. I felt a little ‘exposed’ with such a short hairstyle but so many people commented that it made me look younger so maybe I should consider it?
I managed to get the second Christmas cake made on Tuesday – very late I know. Laced it with brandy so hopefully no-one will know the difference.

No, I haven’t wrapped any pressies yet, but all my cards have been posted.
Long hair does suit you, especially with it being curly, it’s so versatile. I on the other hand have very fine straight hair, so it’s easy for shorter styles. As you said, your Chris likes it and that’s all that matters.
Can I throw a ‘spanner’ in the works? One picture that really stood out for me was the one taken after your ‘Pink Party’, was it last year, you were wearing a pink dress I think and you were lying on your back with your arms in the air, surrounded by balloons, as if to say…that’s done and I can relax!
Maybe not appropriate for your book, but just a thought…it is a stunning photo of you!

I’m glad to hear you enjoy watching the shows I present and thanks for your kind comments. The book is a memoir rather than an autobiography and is based on the numbers one to a hundred (the number of lengths I used to swim of my pool) with each length associated with a different memory. There is also a chapter 101. The book is due to launch on QVC mid to late February and will be exclusive to start with.

The book is sort of a Memoir – each chapter is related to a number e.g. 5 is the five minute pencil test I had to do in my QVC audition in 1993. I haven’t really talked about it that much, but now that I’ve seen it for the first time in book format and we are discussing the cover shot it is starting to feel like it is really happening …. amazing.

We also had a light dusting of snow last week and it’s been freezing temperatures and heavy frosts all week, but today it is raining so I hope it doesn’t get any colder or it may turn to snow.
I haven’t opened any cards yet – looking forward to a big opening session this weekend …. thanks for sending it

    Hi Marian
Yes I did miss your first comment – I thought I was replying to the first page of comments and so I read your second comment first!…… must be my age! Interesting that you’ve now changed your mind from purple to coral – unfortunately that is what I keep doing with all three and everyone on here is evenly split in my ‘ask the audience’!

    Hi Annette
I had forgotten about that picture – no good for the cover of the book but it would have been brilliant for inside particularly as chapter 40 is about the Pink Party. It’s too late now as they are already making up the photo plates … what a shame.

    Hi Nicky
Thanks for your choice and reasoning behind it. I’m so pleased you are looking forward to reading it. All the initial run will be signed and I am going to try and run a competition on here to give away a couple of personalised signed copies if I can.

Hi Julia, So pleased you have managed to finish your book. All 3 pictures are lovely, but I think you should stick to your favourite colour Purple. Claire D x

I think the middle one – peach dress is the best, they are all lovely but the peachy dress picks up you blusher which is really flattering on your skin tone.
    Good luck with it 🙂

    Hi Julia,
Let us know when your book is published. I like the Purple best, red then coral. Mind you, you look stunning in all the photo’s.

    Hi Claire
Thanks for your input on the cover shot – Coral is still just edging it at the moment from Purple then Red but it is very close!
I finished the book in July but there have been a couple of tweeks since and apparently it always takes a few months for the whole publishing process …. nearly there though.

The coral/peachy dress is the most elegant, if that is the look you want.

    Hi Jenny
Not sure if I was going for elegant, but the coral colour has been the most popular choice by a whisker.

I have just done a quick tot up of the vote so far: Purple is edging it with 22, Coral has 20 votes and Red has 17 …… still very evenly spread. Still time to express your opinion until the end of this week

Hi Julia, I think the coral one makes you look the most relaxed and natural, although they all look nice. Good Luck with the book – Jill x
