Busy, Busy, Busy… and relax, with the Yankee Candle TSV

There has been so much going on this last few weeks and life as been a bit of a whirl! Mostly because I still have my vertigo after more than four weeks (I won’t bore you all by going on about it, except to say when you see me on-air at the moment, yes, the studio is spinning around me whilst I’m chatting away to my guests, such fun!).

That said, life has also been a whirl, because I’ve had so much that I have needed to get done. I don’t know if it is the change in season or the lengthening of the days but I suddenly seem to have so much more to get done than I had in mid-January when it was dark by 4pm! Are you like that? I hadn’t noticed it before – maybe it’s just this year?

Anyway, one of the jobs with which I have tasked myself was to get some blinds for the windows in my apartment. I have rather large windows, which I love, as I crave light and airiness in a space, however, they are problematic as soon as we hit spring and all the way through to the end of summer. Why? Well, because they are south/south-east facing, I get the sun from dawn (which begins at around 4 am in the height of summer) until about 3 pm in the afternoon. Not only does that mean I am awake from the crack of dawn, it also means that I might as well have packed my bags and gone to live inside an oven, inside a greenhouse on the surface of the sun. To say that the apartment gets to be boiling hot, even on the coolest of days, is an understatement. All it takes is a few rays of sunlight and boom, it’s hotter than the tropics. Great in the dead of winter when it’s a freezing cold but sunny day, and I can curl up like a cat and bask in the warmth. From March to October though, it’s a different story.

I remember thinking last summer, as I was recovering from my surgery, that as soon as I was better I was going to get proper blackout and thermal blinds for the windows and that is were I am at today, choosing blinds.

That makes it sound like it is a simple, straightforward, everyday task. Er, no, it really is not. There are a myriad of choices to be made. First of all, do I really want blinds rather than curtains? Yes, I eventually decided, as my apartment has a modern, open plan look to it and I thought blinds would sit better in that environment. OK, one decision made, 49,000 more to go.

Fabric swatches for the blinds

For many of you, this is all probably ‘old hat’. You’ll probably have been through this a hundred times over the years. For me, it’s my first time ordering made-to-measure blinds. Trust me, I would not be going down that route if I could order ready-made, but my windows are big, averaging about 3 metres by 2.5 metres and there are 3 that size in the living room and again, 3 more in the bedroom. That is a lot of windows to cover!

I was rather naive going into this with no clue as to the costs involved either. Well, I got a wake-up call when the first company came to do a home visit and measure up and quote. I won’t say how much it was, but I will say that I thought he was quoting me the price to buy a whole new apartment with the blinds he was measuring for! Whoa!

Open blinds with the light flooding in

I’ve had a few companies come in and yesterday I also went to a store and had them quote for me. I’d never been to this particular store before and I was late getting there because I got lost a few times on the way and I was so stressed I had almost decided to give up and not go at all, but then I found it! I wasn’t in the store more than a few minutes when I spotted a lady I hadn’t seen for a very long time, we were at Cardiac Rehab together and I had lost touch with her and there she was. It felt like the gods had meant for us to meet.. She told me she had left a note for me when she was leaving rehab as I wasn’t there that day, but I had never received it. We went and had a coffee after chatting for about and hour and a half and as we were leaving a lovely lady we were passing cocked her head to one side and asked, ‘Are you from QVC?’ She told me how accidents and illness prevented her from getting out much and she loved to watch QVC and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to have bumped into her and was glad we got the opportunity to say hello. So all in all, my stressful day turned out to be extremely rewarding and fruitful. I think there might be a lesson in life there. Just when we are ready to give up and everything is against us, something comes along to remind us that good things also happen on bad days.

There’s still a lot to be done before I actually get some blinds and right now I’m reconciling myself to yet again not having a holiday this year if I want to be able to sleep past 4 am and not have to sit in a puddle of my own sweat in the middle of the day! I haven’t even gotten started on the number of decisions to be made regarding types of blinds and types of bracket fittings and fabric choices… I’ve a feeling this saga could go on for a bit so I’ll leave it there! (For now! Lol).

Suffice to say that after all that, I need a sit down and a bit of relaxing. My space had become a bit polluted with anxious energy from seeing those quotes and running around measuring up, so I needed something to take me away from it all, to transport my to a quieter place, a kinder place, and I have always said that one of the best ways to do that is with fragrance.

Fortune favoured me in that moment as I had just been given a sample of one of the fragrance options from our Yankee Candle Today’s Special Value! Yes, you read that correctly, we have a Today’s Special Value from Yankee Candle coming up this week, launching on Thursday night at midnight and on-air all day Friday. I know many of you would love to get your hands on it, judging by all the comments on social media, and I know you won’t be disappointed either!

It’s been a while since we had a TSV from Yankee and this one is such a good one in my opinion. It’s a three-piece multi-wick tumbler collection and it comes in three different fragrance options. I have the Seaside Woods option. This fragrance only launched in February of this year and is already a firm favourite. For me, it’s comforting, relaxing, cosy and very classic, and goes wonderfully with the way I like my home to smell.

There is also Moonlit Blossoms, which is another recent addition, having just been launched in March this year. This is also a fragrance within the ‘classic’ category and has floral notes in there, mixed with some berry notes too.

Last but by no means least, we have a pre-launch of a fragrance that will be available anywhere until May 2019 and that is Alfresco Afternoon. This is a fresh fragrance with juniper and nectarine notes and will be perfect anywhere in the home where you want the fresh, uplifting fragrance to bring new life to a room.

The entire set gives you enough wax to have up to 205 hours of burn time and a wonderful variety of shapes and sizes. There is a three-wick tumbler (483g), a two-wick tall tumbler (625g) and a one-wick tumbler (198g). The tumblers themselves, I think, bring a clean, contemporary look to the space they sit in and you can only get these new fragrances in these contemporary tumblers from QVC. They really add to your interior decor because they look so good but then they add that extra element to your home with the fabulous fragrance as well!

Just before I go, I wanted to post a pic that I took the other day, as it will give you an idea of what goes on behind the scenes before we go on-air. I was in the presenter dressing room area, minding my own business, preparing to go on-air, and as I walked down the corridor I was greeted by ‘Thing’ from the Addams Family, or at least I thought that’s what it was.

Turns out it was just one of my colleagues brushing her luscious mane of hair. Can you guess who it is? We honestly laughed so hard when I showed her the pic I took. The things you see when your minding your own business. Lol!

If your hair is a big concern for you, we have so many gorgeous products to keep it in tip-top condition, like the Tweak’d range. If you looking for a great all-in-one that will cleanse, condition, detangle and reduce breakage by up to 94% then you must try the Tweak’d Dhatelo Restore Cleansing Hair Treatment that Dennis, the founder, says will last up to six months! Don’t forget, of course, we also have the famous Philip Kingsley Elasticiser to help with breakage or Hairfix if you are starting to notice thinning.

Miceal’s Monthly Must Have
This month my ‘Must Have’ has to be Ultrasun Sun Protection Anti-Pigmentation Tinted Face SPF 50+. It is our Beauty Pick of The Month on QVC, for a very good reason. It’s fantastic!

This will help to give you UVA, UVB and Infrared-A protection at an impressive SPF 50+ whilst also working to moisturise your skin and provide a subtle tint, whatever your skin tone, keeping skin looking healthy and with a soft, matte finish.

It also tackles pigmentation issues if you want some anti-ageing protection. Up to 80% of the ageing we see on our skin comes from UV damage, so this has to be your first step. If you already have some pigmentation, this will help to minimise the appearance of that but will also help to protect against and minimise any future pigmentation from sun exposure. It is currently on two interest-free instalments and because it is our beauty pick of the month it has £0.00 P&P, so definitely worth trying under out 30 day money back guarantee.

Get it now and start using it immediately, and then all the way through the summer.

Until next time,

Miceal xxx

Hi Miceal. I always look forward to your blogs as they are a great read everytime.
Will have a look at the Yankee as I have a wayward kitten who would rather use the floor than his litter tray! So a lovely new scent would be rather nice.
Is the ‘thing’ the lovely Claire Sutton? (With a great top on btw).
    Love and light, Lisa xx

I moved into a property that has two very large windows in the lounge and very large windows in the bedrooms. Vertical blinds are the answer and if you can afford it thermal backed ones. They reduce the amount of heat entering the room something you need due to the position of your apartment. I concur it is a considerable outlay financially, but once they are fitted, you will be you will be so pleased you got them. Steady does it Miceal, don’t overdo things.
