Since we last caught up with QVC Ambassador Amanda Holden, the actor’s BundleBerry range has announced her arrival as an in-demand and on-trend designer. The combination of vibrant colours and industrial materials have put the star on the homeware map.
‘I’m obsessed with interior design anyway,’ Amanda admits, when deciding whether the new role has opened her creative floodgates, ‘I’m not on the lookout for new shapes or prints any more than I was before. I’ve always had a need to stop and take pictures of everything I see. On a recent holiday to Holland, I was photographing planters, tables, bikes and flowers.’
So, will we be able to spot any recent influences in the new range?
‘There hasn’t been any drastic change in the designs, it’s essentially based on nostalgia, like my first collection. It’s my history and my taste, and everything I always loved when I was little and on different holidays.’
‘If anything, a lot of the inspiration with this second collection has come from listening to the QVC customer and seeing what they enjoyed in the very first set of products. The range has evolved as we’ve developed last season’s most popular pieces. I’m really excited about the new neutral colour options we’ve got lined up.’
There’s also a big offer from the range soon, which Amanda can’t wait to reveal: ‘I really love my upcoming Today’s Special Value… but that’s a secret!’
BundleBerry’s new line has transitioned with the seasons and moved away from summer: ‘My autumn/winter collection is about warmth, snuggling, cosy fabrics, and mood lighting. It’s to help you keep warm and hibernate for the winter, in the most glamorous way possible.’
‘Take the Wooden Cocktail Chest. That is me thinking: “Yes. Christmas. Cocktails. Everyone should have this kind of bar-in-a-suitcase in their house.” We have a bar at home and love it, it brings all of the family together.’
‘A number of the designs are recreations of my favourite accessories at home. We have a concrete lamp with a bright cord which is almost exactly the same as a lamp in the new collection – my husband actually prefers the copy to our original!’
The new Ethel Chair is another slice of Amanda’s history in BundleBerry’s new offering. Named after her grandmother, it’s an almost exact replica of a chair her grandparents had used to rest and relax at home.
‘My Nan has lived in the same house since I was born – so it’s old! – and she had two chairs that looked exactly like this BundleBerry design. The chairs started downstairs, and gradually moved from room to room, before finally being moved to the spare room to never be used. I suppose the shape eventually went out of fashion, but for me, it’s a memory thing.’
‘That would be the room my Mum and Dad slept in, so I would sit in that chair in the morning. That’s where all the clothes got thrown at night. That’s where my late Granddad would sit. The chair has always been in our family.’
‘Now, the style has come back round again and I love it, however my Nan can’t understand it!’
‘I think the Ethel Chair’s shape and texture is so chic and perfectly sums up the range’s signature look. All of that combined with my fond memories growing up, and you have a very special piece.’
Each design from the new collection, as with the last, is stylish and easy to slot into existing decors, with a clear industrial edge.
‘I suppose it’s using factory-like materials and shapes and adding a daring colour pop. It’s all about an indoor/outdoor theme, which I’m absolutely obsessed with and think is really cool for a modern-day house. It’s not ornate, flowery or fiddly, it’s fuss-free. Plus, with the shabby-look, wood-topped tables and concrete-finished lamps and stools, it’s easy to care for with a busy lifestyle.’
