Bright, beautiful Bristol

Hello and welcome to another edition of #HuntleyHumpday! Your regular weekly fix of eclecticism from me. Maybe I’ll start adding one big word to each blog, too! I usually come across new ones when searching for one which I think exists but doesn’t. Like ‘eclecticity’. In short, it’s a bitta blog. Bitta this, bitta that.

Anyhooooooo, onto Bristol. I now know why I hear our Craig Rowe raving about his home town! What a beautiful city. My daughter is doing a three year music degree there and came home a week or so ago. It was just wonderful to have her, and her equally wonderful boyfriend, Harry, home again. We all love our cats but Harry has the biggest soft spot ever for our Pixiecat and Popsiecat and he was thrilled to see the girls again!

I don’t mention my son on my social media all that often because he is rather social media shy. I am so incredibly proud of him, too. I have been blessed with two very creative, intelligent children. Tom is a singer/songwriter, too, and it’s always a very special thing when they play and sing together. It’s a rarity but it’s lovely. I get told off if I post too much about him, ha ha, so I’ll leave that there but I will say that when the three musketeers are reunited all feels as right as can be in my world.

We did a lot of hanging about in our pyjamas, giggling, cooking and catching up at Chez Huntley and then I drove Chrissie and Harry home at the end of their visit. They were fabulous hosts. They insisted on sleeping on a blow up bed and gave up their bed for me for the night.

They also treated me to dinner. One of the yummiest take-aways ever! Their housemate works at the local pizzeria and caters for vegetarians and vegans. He made us delicious sourdough vegan pizzas, fabulous garlic bread and a massive rocket salad. We cuddled up in our pjs and watched some First Dates together whilst feeding our faces. A lovely end to the day.

The next day Harry went to work and Chrissie and I had the day together before she had to attend lectures, rehearsals and work her evening job at a local restaurant. She gave me a quick tour around the city, pointing out highlights as we went. You can tell it’s a city rich in creativity as your eyes try to take in all of the art that surrounds you. There are some stunning little independent shops with really unique creations that I only wish we’d had more time to look it. The people all seemed to be very friendly, too. I enjoyed myself so much I forgot to take enough pics! I was too busy taking it all in!

We had brunch at a vibrant yet chilled cafe. They served all sorts of dishes. All dietary requirements catered to. Chrissie and I are both continuing our plant-based eating beyond Veganuary so this suited us perfectly. I had chai tea with oat milk for the first time. It was sooo good! We had a cheeky, not-quite-so-healthy-but-not-too-sinful-either, meal. This consisted of fried courgette and sweet potato fries, baked beans, mushrooms, tofu scrambled ‘eggs’, fried potatoes, a veggie sausage and a slice of seeded bread. It was so filling that neither of us managed to finish it all. Believe me, that’s somewhat unheard of. We can both eat for England!

After another wander, all too soon it was time for us to say our goodbyes and for me to get back on the road to home. I always miss my girl but having a busy life means it’s not as intense until I see her again. Ironically, I miss her even more when I see her! I suppose it’s because I am reminded of what I’m missing. She’s insisted I return to Bristol soon and for much longer next time. Who am I to disobey my darling girl? It can’t come soon enough.

It’s starting to get sunny out, which is just what we need! I love the sunshine. Here at QVC we are situated within a beautiful park. It’s quite nice just to get out and take in a bit of sunshine every now and again with a brisk walk around the lake. It’s always good to feed my Freddie Fitbit some more steps so I’ll try and do it a bit more often now it’s not so cold and dark out!

For those of you who are green fingered please look out for Richard Jackson’s Today’s Special Value coming up on Saturday. It’s the new and improved formula of his beloved Flower Power! I’ve also got my eye on the Kelly Hoppen TSV which is featuring this Thursday. Lots of great deals on offer as always, here at QVC, one of my favourite places to be!

Have a super week and I’ll meet you back here next Wednesday!

Love Catherine xx
