So how did the Beast from the East treat you? Pretty scary stuff wasn’t it? So many stories, including from my sister in Dublin who, after being snowed in for several days, finally climbed out of her kitchen window to dig access to their doors so they could get out of the house and trudge through deep snow drifts to buy food. Hopefully now it’s all over and spring is finally on its way – fingers crossed eh?
Although we had tons of snow at home in Gloucestershire, as luck would have it the Beast coincided with my annual girlie weekend away with my two university friends Dione and Gillian, and this year we had picked Brighton which, although cold and windy, was pretty much snow free by the time we got there. Gillian arrived a day late due to being stranded in Scotland due to the weather, so on the Friday night Dione and I made a stand-in Gillian out of paper, lipstick and a pair of leggings for hair, and put it in her bed. Two fifty-something women, howling with laughter over something so silly – I do wonder if we will ever really grow up. I very much hope not!
Brighton was brilliant – great food and shopping, and we very much enjoyed a ride on the British Airways i360 (the 531ft tall moving observation tower on the seafront) and a tour around the exotic Royal Pavilion, built for George IV – I’ve never seen anything quite like it. I even went for an early Sunday morning run along the seafront, which was glorious – I do like to be beside the seaside!
Now – a few of my top spring picks on QVC. This Friday the 9th look out for the gorgeous Today’s Special Value offer from Irish designer Paul Costelloe. We often have pieces from him in the Fashion Edit show I present with Ruth Langsford (she’s a big fan) and this chunky knit cardigan is just perfect for this time of year. I managed to get my hands on the olive option (see photos) early, and it is just so cosy. It also comes in navy, ice blue, soft grey and blush, and I love the chunkiness, the big collar and the pockets. It’s a great transitional piece as it will work as a light coat when spring eventually arrives.
Looking ahead to those warmer days, we’ve already got some gorgeous sandals in stock, and I’ve got ahead and ordered these from Skechers – the rather nicely named Bumblers Summer Scorcher Sandals! They are low wedges with a lovely, squishy foam footbed, and a plain strap and a faux pearl and rhinestone strap which is super sparkly – the picture doesn’t really do it justice. I got the rose gold but they also come in pewter and black. Perfect if you have a holiday coming up soon… I don’t, having already had my big holiday of the year, so I’m dreaming of spring/summer when I can wear them…
I’ve also become slightly obsessed with our March Beauty Pick of the Month – brand new from Elemis, it’s a rose-scented version of their award winning Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, and a supersize too. I’ve always loved this cleanser – it’s probably the one I use the most alongside Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish and Alpha-H’s Balancing Cleanser, so it’s wonderful to have it in a new scent. Not to be missed.
And staying with cleansing, another Today’s Special Value offer to tell you about, this time from Clarisonic on Monday 12th March. It’s one of their sonic facial cleansers and comes in two options – the Mia Fit, for the girls, and the Alpha Fit, designed for men’s tougher skin. Said to be six times better than manual cleansing, these devices are still gentle enough for even sensitive skin and it takes just 60 seconds a day to slot one into your skincare routine. Benefits include softer, smoother looking skin and reduced appearance of lines and wrinkles, which can’t be bad. The design is very sleek, and they are compact enough to take on your travels, and waterproof. A good buy for anyone serious about skincare.
That’s it for now! Don’t forget you can also follow me on Twitter (@jackiekabler) and on Instagram (@officialjackiekabler) – I always love to hear from you.
