Yankee Candle

Brand new summer freshness from Yankee Candle!

I spent last week at home getting rid of a nasty chest infection but one of the things that put a smile on my face was a new lovely Yankee Candle Monteroso Collection that I was sent. It’s the new Today’s Special Value which I’m launching this Thursday 5th May. You have a choice of a Tangerine, Gold or Teal lantern/ votive holder. And you get 4 delicious fragrances to play with – which are brand new to the range sold in the UK!  24 tea lights (12 in Summer Peach and 12 of the Riviera Escape), then 12 votives: 3 x Summer Peach, 3 x Riviera Escape, 3 x Olive & Thyme and 3 x Sage and Sea Salt.

And all four fragrances are more than enough to whisk you away to that holiday you’ve been daydreaming about for months or remind you of an escape you hold as a cherished memory. I have to admit my favourite is Summer Peach. The sweetness of it reminds me of our last holiday in Cyprus a couple of years ago and the fresh luscious ripe fruit we used to gorge ourselves on for breakfast every morning before heading out for a walk. The candle fragrances also has this incredible ability of holding long after burning – I mean days after.  The Riviera fragrance is very evocative of the sea, the aroma takes me back to lovely weekend breaks I’ve had in Brighton and Bournemouth over the years. And has got me musing about Torquay this year. The gorgeous town is often dubbed the English Riviera, of course!

And what do you think of the teal lantern? I think it looks great out in the garden, as well as on the cabinet. The cabinet was gifted to us my Austen’s Mum and Dad, and was handmade by my father-in-law back in the 1950s, no less!

Rose and I will be bringing you this great value collection, as well as a stack of other exciting  Yankee Candle pieces on Thursday at midnight. Join us and send in some tweets to the show so I can read them out!

Decorating continues

Picture rail

So we’ve got a mist coat on the main bedroom walls now, and also Austen’s worked hard on putting up a picture rail. We want to bring back some of the character of the house, which was built in 1897. Not having lived in a house of this age before, I didn’t realise until now that picture rails were very much de rigueur back then. Austen is spot on with things like this so we thought it only fitting. As Austen’s Dad was a true DIYer, Austen set to work with the saw John gave him and set about cutting pieces and getting it all done. A nice job.

Skirting board

Next stop is glossing the lot, sanding the skirting and getting those painted up. So much to do, eh?
