Blooming Marvellous – at last! Win a signed copy of my steamy novel! And super Sunday ahoy!

Wotton open dayThis week –

 - Sunny summer days in Surrey

– WIN a copy of my steamy novel Hawaiian Affair!

– Presenters in their bathing suits – Julia’s charity swim is nearly here

– And it’s a Super Sunday – our once a year bargain-fest!

Plus – a classic Alison Young blooper, and DVD review 'Cold Light of Day' – action all the way.

Oh at long last some sunny weather – makes all the difference to days out! And aren’t the plants loving it? What’s happening in your garden? My lilies – grown for the presenter competition – have sprouted up (they’re still little stubs but getting there!) And finally the flowers in the pots are all starting to come on a treat (with a little help from Richard Jackson’s Plant Food!). Remember these clematis climbers from last year?

Clematis climberVases

Plus I’m at last actually able to pick some of ‘all my own work’ from the garden, to put in vases indoors! Yay!

We’ve had some wonderful days out so far, including the Abinger Hammer tea rooms where lovely Annie and Sally played host to dozens of families out in the sunshine last Sunday, there for the cricket on the typical English village green – so picturesque! Shame about the traffic, but we had a lovely tea.

We also visited the Open Day at nearby Wotton House, a cute little event with ponies for the kids to ride, a few stalls and pretty make-your-own flower displays. Not a massive event, but nice to have the family over, including my daughter and her man, and bruvva Del-boy and his missus. Derek is the one who recently tweeted Michelle Mone funny comments about being on with me with her faux tan! (see top pic). Hope you enjoy whatever you’re planning for the summer hols – any ‘staycations’ going on? Local day trips etc?

One thing some of the QVC peeps are planning to do, is to help our very own Julia Roberts this Sunday (7TH) in a charity swimming gala! I agreed to swim, as long as I didn’t have to display me body in me cossie! Lol. BUT it’s a matter of angles, really. For instance, look at these two pics taken thirty seconds apart last year on hols in Santa Monica, it might have well been twenty pounds apart! How can they be so different? Go figure?!

So anyway top marks to Jules for helping out her organisation related to the childhood illness she and others went through. She’s doing well so far, with the sponsorship – over £2,000 raised – do help her get to £3k – info below. And come along if you can? Next week, pics of people in pyjamas, rubber rings, and overcoming obstacles!

Here’s Julia’s message about it –

I'm swimming 100 lengths of the pool for my polio charity:

(The venue is Trinity School Sports Club, Shirley Park, Croydon CR9 7AT.The event is 11am – 1.30pm Sunday 7th.) Do feel free to donate if you can.

Just a quick word to say how sad we all were this week to learn that one of our regular faces on the modelling team, Beulah Hughes Grant has sadly passed away from her skin melanoma that she’d bravely battled with for the last six years. She died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones and I’m sure we speak for everybody in saying we send her family all the best at this sad time.

Still to come – film reviews featuring Henry Cavill, sneaky peeks at next week’s bargains, and what’s on this weekend on Super Sunday.

My weekly look at all thing book…

 Book heart

So with the events of this week in mind, I’ve a special book recommendation – an extra one – for anyone going through any sort of bereavement and who is interested in other people’s experiences of something similar.

Anita Moorjani - Dying to be meA highly rated book – ‘Dying To Be Me’ – by Anita Moorjani – helped me to feel better about a loved one passing last year. It won’t be for everybody, and that’s ok, but if you like the things I like, do take a look.

It doesn’t matter if it’s true for everyone or not, it only matters that if it helps someone, then all well and good. Do go investigate if you can, and there are also some fascinating clips of Anita talking, on YouTube.

Lol! Well whatever the occasion you would like to read my book, here’s your chance to win a signed copy! (PG complete version coming soon, with PG paperback out in time for xmas). (NB If you’d like to read Hawaiian Affair, but don’t like steamy bits, then the PG version is still available in instalments, just search my name on amazon and you’ll see it amongst the options.)

And click here if you’d like the steamy complete version.

Am really chuffed ‘cos you guys kindly keep leaving me some lovely reviews – the latest one is below – and thanks so much to those who keep asking me about book 2! Yes the ‘prequel’ is underway, where we find out how Sadie got to be in Monaco in the first place! And I already know what the ‘sequel’ will be about! In fact, I’m off for a writing holiday from end of next week, to get some serious scribbling done.

Review from Sarah on Amazon –

Really enjoyed reading Debbie's first novel, Hawaiian Affair. A true story with plenty of twists along the way that will keep you guessing. The characters are so believable and I really enjoyed the light hearted humour in parts. A perfect read to get lost in, plus the steamy nature will keep you reading! Well done and congrats Debbie x

Watch Over MeBook of the Week

Ooo a hard one this, since there’ve been so many lovely freebies available on amazon lately! Including Jane Wenham-Jones’ ‘One Glass is Never Enough’ and Mandy Baggott’s ‘Strings Attached’. But the one that I’ve just begun reading myself is at time of writing only 30p on the eBook amazon offer, and that’s a top-ten chart hit in the bestsellers list, ‘Watch Over Me’ by Daniela Sacerdoti. With over 700 five star reviews, it’s obviously got something going for it, so I downloaded it – which you can do here

I made it my book of the week because, when I began reading the ‘look inside’ segment, it almost immediately drew me in, making me want to read on – see if it does the same to you? Has anyone read it? Let me know what you thought below. I wouldn’t have picked it up from the product description alone, but the first few paragraphs enticed me to read on, and I liked her style. The story basically revolves around a broken hearted, broken woman with a broken marriage, and her unusual experience which changes forever the way she sees what awaits us after death, and about her second chances. Give it a go!

And if you’re a facebook friend, I give alerts when I see a new freebie promo eBook offer, so ‘friend’ me if you are interested! I am going to begin a book club for all such things on facebook, linked to the RiWiSi pages on my website, , so do go there to sign up for newsletter updates to keep informed when I launch it!

Costa Book AwardsShort Story Competition – Costa awards closing next month

And just a quick extra here for you writers this week – go here (link already sent) to find out more about the annual famous Costa short story competition. And follow through the links to read about last year’s shortlist, as many of them include in their biog’s some of the other competitions they’ve entered, which is handy for writers wanting to discover other arenas to showcase their talent.

More about all things book on my website, on the RiWiSi page!

Ok so there was a little ‘titter’ on the Trinny and Susannah show this week, (see below) but not anywhere near as amusing as this little gem from the archives! Considering it’s the end of beauty month on QVC, and you’ve been loving last week’s reminder of the ‘cream on face’ boo-boo, here’s Alison Young’ hair mousse accident from circa 1996!

Brad & Kari wedding

– First in ‘snippets’ this week, Proud Mummy time! Got my invite to ‘the wedding’ in October – and how innovative it is! Loved the little seal on the outside too, bless Brad my lovely son and Kari my daughter-in-law to be. October’s getting nearer and nearer! Come back to check in on next week’s blog to find out a (little) more about when Lauren and I go with Kari to her dress fitting on Wednesday next week!

Mat Trim's dog– OMG how funny is this pic! Mat Trim’s dogs – during a camera sell last weekend – Sony camera took it – sold out too – but funniest thing was the fact that so many captions ran through my mind for this superb shot.

‘Bet you can’t capture me’ was one of the wittiest on twitter during the show! Can you do any better? Leave me a message on this blog – see below how to. And watch out for a new Canon camera this weekend on Super Sunday at an amazing TSV price – one of many…

Trinny and Susannah– Behind the scenes just before going live, and Trinny and Susannah were catching up on some messaging! The show itself was lively, as usual. Here’s a little clip to make you smile, about the jacket I was wearing. (I’d probably still buy the 14 but I do like the girls’ knowledge and advice! ) Go here

Sarah Chapman– On one of my days off this week, I gave myself a pamper session – and frightened the dogs! Lol. Here’s why – item 203233, the overnight Facial and Miracle Mask – and yes, it peeled off afterwards exactly like when lovely beauty expert Sarah Chapman does it! Satisfying – and lovely skin afterwards!

Facebook funny– And finally in this week’s snippets, a facebook funny that made me feel all warm fuzzy as well as made me smile. I hope you can expand the pic to read the little story – altogether now… awww bleeesssssss!

WATCH – Ok so John Cusack’s The Raven (on my skyplus) lost out to another fab Henry Cavill DVD for this week’s review. It’s last year’s ‘Cold Light of Day’ with Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver too – a fast-paced conspiracy tale, with slightly less clichéd and boring chase sequences than the run of the mill ‘escape’ movies. But a note-worthy, powerful performance from Henry Cavill – really really good, actually. In fact, it’s surprisingly good. Oh, and you get to see his chest. 7 and three quarters out of ten – so , for me, that’s pretty good!

Shhh – In a couple of Sundays' time, we’re planning a big ‘fruit-based’ brand (as Lee Hohbein would say!) mini tablet, featuring a5 chip as a Today’s Special Value… say no more! Oh ok, then, you can spread the word!

This weekend it’s our annual TSV extravaganza – yes, Super Sunday is back! With no less than 30 Today’s Special Value’s all on one day! But be warned – some of them are only on once or twice! And a plethora of presenters to bring them to you – several each hour. Watch out for the midnight launch of an amazing Elemis kit I sneaky peeked a few weeks ago, as Jilly, Craig and I kick off the day Saturday night at midnight. Plus bargains for the next 24 hours, from Samsung, Clarks, Veronese, Easiyo and a lot more besides! Join me also for a special from H Forman Salmon in the 7pm show (Sunday 7th) – if there’s any left! And not to be outdone – don’t forget this Saturday, (6th) it’s L’Occitane’s little tote bag of mini’s – what a great gift idea!

Hair growth device

Finally, that hair-growth device I warned you about – is actually due on air this coming Tuesday all day. It really does help certain thinning hair conditions I’m told, and will have an incredible try-it period of 120 days!

Well I’ll be back on air Mon and Tue too, then off for my week’s writing. Cornwall maybe – possibly in the motorhome – possibly with my good friend Mr Back of my Tandem for company – purely to help me write of course! (he’s a scriptwriter). Let’s hope the promised good weather continues!

Best wishes,

Great blog as usual! Loved the dog story – in fact it was all interesting!
I was invited by QVC to Julia’s swimming gala – so I’ll get a chance to see you! Can I bring my book for you to sign please?!

Cannot wait for the hair restoring gadget! I will be ordering and will be blisteringly honest in my review – it had better work! Since I got ill and have to be on so much strong medication, my hair is terribly weak, thinning and fine. Surely SOMETHING has to work!!!
Deep into your book Debbie! Review to follow soon!
    Thanks for another fabby blog!

Haven’t got round to watching Superman yet but it must be good seeing as all the reviews that have been posted, Henry’s chest aside! ha. I have that Daniela book but I haven’t read it yet, I’m reading her Trilogy Sarah Midnight series of books, though only two have been published thus far, Dreams and Tides is book 2. She does have a very engaging style and I only picked up this book cos it’s about demons, the supernatural etc.
Was really sorry to hear about the sad passing of Beulah, we remember her on QVC. So sad.
Swimming pool pic, the water distorts you doesn’t it when you’re underneath it, thus looking like you’ve piled on the pounds, well not you, but in general, ha! xxx

    Hi Debbie
Just to say I am so sad about beautiful Beulah, I had no idea that she had been so ill – I have seen her on so many shows and I feel that the models on QVC are not just ‘mannequins’ but real, beautiful women with personality, warmth, grace and humour. Beulah exemplified that for me and, I am sure, for many others. Please pass on my sympathies to her family and friends and all of us who benefited from her presence.

Debs – Sure that pool shot is one of your optical illusions you post on here from time to time rather than reality…. I hope!
This great weather always reminds me of the great lyrics & words of wisdom in Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Everybody’s free to wear sunscreen’ (over 6 million hits on YouTube).
Make hay( & prequels!) while the sun shines, happy hols,Nige:))

Susan – Heather – yes indeed – lovely lady, sadly missed. Always rotten when this happens to nice people, and yes Beulah was a typical lovely person inside and out. Am sure her family have been comforted by the outpouring of warmth in online messages like this. Thanks ladies.

well done you! For those scared of London drivers, that’s a biggie! And a good ‘try it for the first time’ event to be different. Hope you’re doing well nowadays?

    Nige –
haha – yes it was an optical illusion – in fact, both are! lol. I’d love to look that long and slim, but happily I don’t look that short and squat either!
I loved Baz Luhrmann’s ‘sunscreen’ – was it around 2002? I remember thinking I must do something similar with Tony Blackburn at the time – a send up version – instead we did ‘oh tony blackburn’ – did you ever hear it? will have to put it on youtube clip to make people smile! lol
Yes am looking fwd to writing prequel – had a few late nights recently getting it started and I think I’ve found the right beginning, so off we go! Nice weather due too, for Cornwall trip in motorhome!
    hugs to you

    Hi Debs,
What a great day! Really enjoyed the Gala – such fun. Enjoyed watching Julia, who just seemed to go on and on without faltering and the fun races were great too! Did you like joke ‘tyred’ picture of you, put on Twitter?! Yes I did it – I put 3 photos on Twitter! So easy – don’t know why I worried about it! Photos weren’t great but then I was a long way up and I was using my iPhone! That’s another thing for me to aim towards – taking decent photos using a camera!
It was great to meet up with you and thanks for signing my book!
You looked amazing, even in a towel! Your make up looked superb – even after swimming!
Talking with some of the spectators during the Gala, we all said how we feel as if the presenters should know who we are because we feel that we know you and know so much about you! It’s a strange concept, but I always watch you when you’re on, especially late at night, as I seem to be always up late! So as far as I’m concerned you’re part of the family! I love your style and the amount of information you give and you just ‘bubble’ with fun! You have a great sense of humour.
I have to say, I missed a large chunk of today (Monday) as I had to crash out. The driving to Croydon and back and the heat at the pool was exhausting and then there was Wimbledon and THAT match! Wasn’t that just brilliant? I didn’t get back home until the second set, but I was able to watch the rest of the match and scream at the TV! Then I had to watch the final few hours of QVC. No wonder I was tired!
Hope we will meet again sometime.

Oh I’m so sad that the lovely Beulah is no longer with us – I was shocked to read this in your blog Debs – why does it always seem to happen to the lovely ones? I’ve watched QVC from practically Day 1 and have always felt part of your ‘family’ but also the same with the models, as we see them so regularly, so this will be a big gap in many people’s viewing I’m sure – she was truly beautiful – my love goes out to all her family and friends.
As for you Debs – you’re just great! Love to watch you with your infectious laugh and sense of humour, but also for the way in which you present shows – always informative, knowledgeable and very interesting – a Top Saleswoman but with sincerity which is so rare today.
Well done in the swimming gala too – a true inspiration along with Julia. Be happy always – wish you were my friend 🙂

so lovely to meet you at last too hon! Hope you guys weren’t too hot up in the gallery above the gala pool – there was a lot of fanning yourselves going on! Ta so much for making the effort. Fab of you.
I’m sure we’ll meet again sometime. Ta so much for the kind compliments! I knew I couldn’t win most of the races, considering the fiercely competitive, finely honed competition! hehe! So I just went for the fun factor, and of course the ability to keep my face mostly dry! haha!
    big hugs

yes absolutely, ours too. Lovely lady, she will of course be sadly missed by all of us. The funeral is today (Friday 12th) and altho I’m on hols I will spare a thought for everyone there. There’s a charity for the hospice which the presenters decided we’d donate too. Some went along too to pay respects. Sad time.
