Birthday boy in the house!
Oh my goodness, how time is flying!
Tom turned 15 on May 4th and was I think even more excited about the prospect than ever before… possibly because he told us that “when I’m 15 I shall have a girlfriend and a beard”. On the day I was most relieved to find a beardless 15-year-old I can tell you and as far as the girlfriend? Well apparently she has a name, is in year nine and he has waved at her… that boy makes my heart swell. Witnessing Tom’s sheer delight made me once again realise I AM LUCKY… who would have thought 15 years ago that I would say that. After the shock and enormity of Tom’s birth had altered our world with such force it was unimaginable to ever think life would be normal. Birthday happiness aside, there are many many times in our day-to-day lives that I feel so very lucky that I have the chance to see things through Tom’s eyes; his simple and uncluttered view on life, the joy that bubbles from within when he is excited and happily sharing things with us, and his complete naturalness with people. Tom’s birthday fell amidst the current and constant debate of the new NIPT test (I read an article by Dominic Lawson linked to here, should you wish to read it.) As we spent our time celebrating the birthdays of our special son with amazing families that I feel privileged to call friends, I couldn’t help but reflect on all we have because Tom is in our life…
On Tom’s wish list were super duper trainers and all things sporty and branded and whilst I wouldn’t admit a sports shop is my favourite kind of shop, I found myself desperately trying to accommodate his desires with Maddie’s help (she is the boys personal stylist don’t you know.) We also felt a Gym Membership would be a great gift for Tom and when he saw the equipment at the gym his face was a picture, here is a little video of him just testing things out prior to this weeks induction..
Mummy and Arnold came to stay and join in the celebrations which was lovely, we tootled around together and whilst we were out the subject of footwear cropped up. I was wearing my new cheeky QVC purchase, these Aqua blue Clarks shoes – I can’t tell you how comfy they are and how many lovely comments I have had whilst wearing them. Mummy on the other hand was sporting her comfiest of shoes, bearing in mind she has had difficulties since her broken ankles plus she has Parkinsons so comfort is vital. Step in Skechers… ( like what I did there! ) I am absolutely amazed how many feet I spot wearing Skechers, it’s world domination I think! Unfortunately, as Mummy left my house she managed to wonder straight past one of her pairs in my hallway, so frantic parcelling up by me occurred plus a treat of two new pairs ready for her honeymoon cruise to the Norwegian fjords. She is very happy not least of all because of the speedy delivery from QVC.
I had the loveliest of days belatedly celebrating my birthday with some of my dearest friends in London. We started at the V&A where we saw the theatre exhibition and had the funniest time dressing up in costumes, unsurprisingly there were photo opportunities galore and just seeing a ballet barre OBVIOUSLY meant it was waiting to be used, trouble was I was in a frock… oh well!
We then wandered to Sketch just off Regent Street, an absolutely fabulous place for Afternoon Tea. It was heavenly, from the fabulous rose gold decor, the quirkiest of loos – they looked like space pods had landed, and of course the most exquisitely delicious cakes, sandwiches and… champagne! I loved it… TOTALLY.
We sat having coffee in the gardens at the V&A so very appreciative of the sunny weather and who would’ve thought I would be presenting my Skechers show that very weekend in our beautiful new garden set at QVC. We were so well looked after by our superb backstage team with April, Abby and Ellie all ensuring that Vonda and I had lots of water, Fitover sunglasses and of course were safe in the sun with Ultrasun.
Now talking of sun “Where have you gone? Please do hurry back it was soooooo lovely having you, perhaps this bank holiday May 30th you will deign to be back?” I so hope so as we are featuring our ‘She’s Gotta Have It ‘ event and I would love to be in the QVC garden presenting it in the sunshine!
Now, I was thinking it might be rather nice to give you the opportunity to have a treat from me, a kind of ‘She’s (or He’s) Gonna Get It’ now! kind of thing.
