Outside of QVC
I took a little holiday this week because it was Tilda’s 7th Birthday and I of course wanted to make sure I was at home to celebrate with her and also to organise her disco party! How the heck do I already have a seven year old? I honestly don’t know where that time has gone, I know it’s a cliché but it really does go by so fast. It feels like yesterday that I was bringing her home from the hospital!
Tilda has been talking about her birthday for weeks, she’s been making her wish lists, party invites and talking about what party food to have and what to wear. She even suggested that I shouldn’t tell her what day her birthday would be because she would be too excited to sleep that night. Obviously that didn’t happen because she couldn’t stop asking how many days it was to her birthday.
Her current obsession is LOL Dolls which some of you may already know. They are little dolls that come inside a plastic ball and you don’t know which one you are going to get. Our house is full of them and that’s all she wanted for her birthday and the theme she wanted for the party.
This year we chose to have a joint birthday disco with one of Tilda’s best friends, which I have to admit felt very grown up. Gone are the soft play parties and trips to the farm, now it’s all dance routines and favourite songs. We hired Phil from Get up and Groove to come and DJ the party and he provided lights, bubble machines and even a foam machine!! He organised dances for them to learn like the Cha cha Slide, and had them all playing games too.
It was so much fun and even us parents got dragged onto the dance floor to join in. My mother-in-law had a wonderful cake made for her too which was a Disney Rapunzel Cake which had a real doll as part of it which she got to keep after. She had a great time and so did her friends. Fred and I however needed a lie down by the end of it!! I teamed my denim dungarees with a fine knit polo neck from Marble which has a ruched and button detailed cuff.
The rest of the weekend was filled with blustery walks on the beach. After all the excitement of the birthday we needed to blow away the craziness and get some fresh air. It’s my favourite thing about living down here on the coast, I just love to watch the wild sea and walk through the bracing wind! I wore my chunky knit wool blend cardigan from Paul Costello.
We also headed to the Lighthouse theatre on the Sunday to see Dinosaur World Live as an extra birthday treat. It was so good!! I wasn’t quite sure what to expect or how Tilda and Ivy would react but they loved it. Amazing giant puppets were brought to life on stage through storytelling and puppeteers.
They introduced us to each dinosaur in turn and the narrator Miranda had all the children screaming from the audience panto style to keep them involved. They even had a giant T-Rex which I have to admit was quite intimidating but it didn’t stop Ivy from persistently trying to get picked to go up on stage. Unfortunately she didn’t get chosen but thankfully afterwards we were able to meet some of the dinosaurs so both she and Tilda were very happy. It’s touring the UK so if it’s coming to your area then take the kids or grandkids.
What I’ve been wearing – Kim & Co Jumpsuit
It’s no secret that animal print is everywhere at the moment. It’s having a moment and you can’t go out of the house without seeing it somewhere. Not everyone is fan though or perhaps not everyone wants to wear the classic brown leopard print though and are perhaps looking for a more wearable and less obvious print. That’s why I think this Kim & Co jumpsuit is a bit of a winner. Rather than browns it’s black and white with shades of grey. The print is small enough that it’s not instantly obvious that it is animal print at all. The other great thing about this jumpsuit is that it is ridiculously comfortable. No zips to need help with, no buttons to do up. Just step in and pull up over your shoulders. Job done, instant outfit and if you really want to you can do cartwheels in it! Ok, perhaps not that last bit, but it’s great for big lunches as you don’t feel restricted at all!
Upcoming Today’s Special Value – Churchill’s
The Christmas countdown is well and truly on and I for one plan to be majorly organised this year and will be making sure to get ahead of the game early. I have already bought the girls their advent calendars and I have also ordered the 650g side of salmon from H Forman & Sons which I snapped up on the festive food event day. It’s a nice contribution to our family Christmas which my mum will be organising. She will be cooking the main meal but if I do the starter with the salmon then that’s one less thing for her to do and what’s more, it will be delicious!
There’s always a million people dropping by over Christmas though or perhaps you will be the one doing the dropping in, in either case you want to have something to offer to the host or to your guests. This is why Churchill’s is so popular at this time of year and why the Today’s Special Value is such a good one to snap up. There is a choice of the two festive Christmas Snowglobe tins or the two beautiful Hollywood style characters with a vintage feel, one named Rita, one named Ava, containing White Chocolate & Raspberry Biscuits and Salted Caramel & Milk Chocolate. See this offer on air all day on Monday 22nd October.
That’s it from me for this week, sorry it’s a bit shorter than usual but it’s been so busy with all the birthday shenanigans! Next week it’s half term so it’s another busy one, we are off to stay in Margate for part of it to show the girls where mummy spent all her holidays as a child. My dad’s side of the family is from Ramsgate so we will be going to all our favourite places around that area. Keep up with me on Instagram to see what we get up to.
Lots of love
