Birthday part one and going to see The Apprentice You’re Fired!

You're firedThis week

– The Apprentice You're Fired – fun recording in Hammersmith

– LJ's London – an art deco hidey hole 60 feet below Piccadilly for my birthday!

– Which movie star makes your toes tingle?

As I write, I'm looking at message-after-message (well, over 100 at 1.35am!) containing lovely birthday wishes from everyone on Facebook – and twitter. Thank you to all of you!

Well as I've already started my birthday celebrations this week, I'm kind of overlapping my blogs with what I did!

The first event on bank holiday Monday was to pop down to Riverside Studios in Hammersmith where 'Lost in TV' take care of providing the studio audience for The Apprentice You're Fired.

It was on one of those weirdly hot days but I was feeling a bit poorly so I took my coat – glad I did! Eventually I had to put it on in the studio, it was so cold!

Anyway the getting in and out having taken ages, we then had a funny ten minutes from Dara o'Briain the host, who's also a stand up comic. Then in advance of the live debate show, we all got to watch the actual episode, all together in the studio! It show – one day ahead of the rest of the country! That was the coolest thing actually. And when the episode went out live of course we knew what happens!

Was still fun then to see if we could spot ourselves in the audience shots! One of the best things was getting to vote – I voted that Tim should have been hired, not fired, since it seemed to me that Francesca will never get Lord Sugar's money for her business if she can't quite obviously even do maths so how could she manage a cash flow forecast!

A nice thing it was to spend a few hours with the kids tho – and their cousin Becky – that's who else is in the pic, along with Lolly's Nick. Fun day. (Then it was off to work to launch the Alpha H TSV!)

OMG I think i've found a new favourite place in London! Brasserie Zedel just off Piccadilly – where LJ took me on Wednesday night last week straight after the Laura Geller show.

It's huuuuge! Cavernous, art deco, atmospheric, a restaurant and bar and venue- and the most amaaazing lemon torte (I had a nibble!) and reasonably priced menu.

Deb and LJOh soooo fabulous – can't recommend it enough!

And thanks to LJ who also took me for an amazing japanese meal. A lovely start to my birthday celebrations, more next week!

Well not quite so much a blooper this week as its our lovely designer Antthony's mum Mary who features, talking about where he began his career. She's delightful, as was he – as ever – and told us about his first ever creation!

READ IT WRITE IT SELL IT- My weekly look at all things book.

Thought for the week – My book will be ready to upload on Amazon in two weeks – two! Eeeek!

One DayBook of the Week – I thought I'd do an occasional mention of some all time favourite books. This one has to be in my top twenty, if not top ten.

It had amazing word of mouth growth '09, '10, as it was just so good. And funny. The quirky story of two uk students who begin as lovers then go through various stages of their lives , followed by checking in on them on one particular day every year. It's not a diary style, tho, you're not limited to just that day's events.

And the characterisations and one liners left me laughing out loud on my sun bed in gran canaria where I read in one day in January 2011…

Highly recommended 5*

Update on Deb's book

I’ve been finalising front covers this week – and have to say it’s been an enjoyable process! We’re nearly there and the lovely designer Angie from Canada whom I’m using is just a delight!

I’ve had some lovely feedback from even more readers now so I am very much looking forward to bank holiday weekend launch when it will be uploaded and available on eBook from Amazon. It’s confirmed the paperback will be available at the end of June, also online from Amazon, and I’m trying to get a phone number you can ring to order one alternatively by then. That’s why rather than wait till then to launch the eBook as well, I’m bringing out the eBook in instalments! Episode One will be on sale from Friday 24th! Yay!

Meanwhile, here's an extract from part of the book where Sadie has just met Mac for the first time. Enjoy!

ps – SHHHHHHH! Guess whom  I had a meeting with this week, about my second project? An agent! With a view to a proper publishing deal (rather than self-published!) Shhhh! Keeping it secret till it's all firmed up – if it happens I will let you know!

Sadie smiled. Time to say goodbye to Hot Boat Guy. Time to get back to real life.
‘Why leave so soon? Got more “boats” to see?’ he asked. ‘I guess you agents usually see several in one trip, don’t you?’
‘I’m not an agent,’ she replied. ‘Double, secret, provocateur or otherwise.’
‘Well then, a sales exec for his competition?’ he said, nodding towards the Nomusa. ‘Are you with Rigby’s?’
‘No,’ she hesitated. No point in explaining, she thought, where would I even begin? ‘Look, I really have to go. Nice to meet you. And don’t worry – someone else will be along in a while and you can eavesdrop on them, instead!’
He just grinned in reply.  Feeling the thrill of flirtation fluttering through her body, she gave a superior shrug, and swung her handbag slightly, trying her hardest to look confident. But the cobbles underfoot did their best to prove otherwise, toying with the high heels of the borrowed Jimmy Choos – they were her sister’s, and a redundancy money treat, so ‘scuff them and die’.  Sadie skipped a little, to avoid damaging them on the rounded stones. Again he looked amused. Or condescending, she couldn’t quite work out which.
‘Sorry – not the best choice of footwear is it.’
He looked down at her feet, thoughtfully.
‘Oh I wouldn’t say that.’

The InvasionWho makes your toes tingle?

Big question of the week – which hero or heroine makes your toes tingle? And who would play them? It's a theme that often comes up when it's 'wine o'clock' on Twitter and the writing fraternity are sticking their heads over the parapet and having a banter.

Well Daniel Craig has got to be the closest to my hero Mac, a rugged, sporty but down to earth billionaire who is asked to approach our Sadie.

But who really rings your bells? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Ali– I'm often asked about how you get to be on the customer panel, and the answer is usually

'email' but Ali Young is going one better!

Go read her blog about how to be a panelist for the month of June! Exciting!  (Click here)

– Hate to say it, but I was pretty poorly this week! Not that you'd know, as I still went on air. Doctor Television eh! But I have got a kidney infection, happily on its way out at time of writing. Anyway I've got a new favourite hot drink – apart from lots of miso soup of course! It's good old honey and lemon – but no ordinary honey – Manuka honey! That's the honey from the tea tree plant so even more anti-microbial – I've even solved dog's foot and ear infections with several spoons of manuka (high UNF) every day. Anyway add it to lemon and it's sooooo therapeutic in feeling. And delicious!

Laura Geller– Got to do a quick snippet to say how much fun the Laura Geller show was this week again – she's not here enough that lady!

Do you agree? Comment below.

Andie Sacks says she has no more Lips Earrings by the way. And the new Geller Girls fan group is to be found by searching for 'Laura Gellers GG fan club' on facebook!

Ice popsReminiscing…! Remember these!?

Ice pop makers with heart shaped handles – soooo 70's! Then over time, they'd all become separated and the plastic would discolour but wow they tasted lovely on a hot summer's day back in 1974. Ish!

Self control-Facebook funny pic – I know I favour dog ones but this one doing the rounds pops up at me every now and then and still makes me smile.

Such an obedient face. Such unhappy ears… I just hope he could eat them soon afterwards! hehe!

WATCH – The Double with Richard Gere on Sky Movies! OOOOOO Mr Smoothie is back. You know he's the sort of hero (OK, about 5 years ago or so!) who can make this reader's toes tingle for sure! The Double is on DVD and Sky this month, and it's his 2011 espionage thriller revolving around the killer called Cassius – who can disguise himself – but who as? Well the trailer is a giveaway, But I'm hoping that there's another equally thrilling twist at the end. I will watch it at weekend and put final mark in a comment below on Monday! Why not do the same and join me?!

P.S, 'watch' howler of the year goes to – The Billie Holiday one woman tribute performance we went to see on Thursday 9th as a pre birthday treat at the tiny (rattly!) Charing Cross Theatre. I don't know who told Nina Kristofferson she should do this pastiche, with inaccurate script and drawn out drug taking scenes, ridiculous vocal twists, oh it was awful.

If it had been an amdram I could have stomached it, and thank god we only paid half price on living social vouchers. Truly truly excruciating, we left at the interval. Nuff said!

One out of ten for a couple of good musicians and a cool venue. Find out more here.

#Thank god on Saturday, sister's taking me to see Ghost at Wimbledon Theatre! Safer territory there I hope!

TobyQVC SNEAKY PEEK – In need of a nifty little cordless vac and got pets?

Do watch out next Tuesday night at midnight through Wednesday for Dyson's latest slim animal vac offering fabulous suction and carpet beating power as well as amazing value!

Don't miss it! Specially with Dale's poggy Toby – so funny!

– This weekend it's the fab fun Elemis TSV set I sneaky peeked a few weeks ago- All day Sunday.

We're all super exited about it as it features the regular size of the new cleansing balm etc!

RelaxmasterAnd Relaxmaster are back soon after at 8pm Sunday

– it's always so hard to not fall asleep when i'm on those beds!

– Ghost at Wimbledon Theatre

– And the final countdown till my book's up on Amazon on 24th – squeeeee!

Have a fab week everyone! And don't forget to tell me about your TiFFT's!* And as I close, am just seeing the first of many hundred birthday wishes for 10th coming via facebook etc.

Thanks so much to everybody who communicated for me. Much appreciated!

Luv debs x

OK so I watched The Double! And apart from a couple of major plot flaws (how they weren’t all aware of the method of assassination when it seemed so obvious to one person), it was a pretty sound Richard Gere outing. Some credible performances and worth a sunday evening watch. Won’t set the town alight but has a couple of cool twists. The actor however, is greater than the overall film. I give it 7.75 out of ten.
