Had a lovely weekend away last weekend – I did miss the Elemis TSV (my skin LOVES the Biotec Range – see below!) but had lots of relaxing fun at the annual Historical Novel Society annual conference with my writing pals.
Plus some super shows on air – not like work! Watch out below for the winner of last week’s comp, plus sneaky peeks at tons of upcoming deals!
Crazy Spaniel Summer I have to say one of the most enjoyable times this summer has been looking after my daughter’s two adorable Cocker Spaniels whilst they went on the holiday, for her birthday. Little Luna is only one (she is the black one), and Baloo is now about four, (she is the brown one). I love them dearly but they are such hard work! We have to go down the woods and spend a lot of time to wear them out and even then they want to throw the ball 1 million times when we come back 🙂
Have you got a dog like that? How much exercise does your dog need? Do leave me a comment below! Read more on this week’s newsletter on my website – click here – too, with more videos like this one – (and ‘subscribe’ to get emailed my updates!)
As I said above, the Historical Novel Society held their annual conference at the weekend – this time in Oxford. They are international – next year’s is in Colorado I think! This was my first and I did enjoy it. There were several historical demonstrations, like a re-creation of the Bayeux tapestry, only done in English; authentic mediaeval clothes worn by a monk, dyed with plants. And this one, featuring a very scary knight! Very entertaining.
Another weekend, another writing workshop! I do love them! I went because my friend Litty asked me to go, then found out Sue, the blonde in the middle of this pic, who I met in France in June, was also going. This was the gala dinner where they had a ‘historical novel characters’ competition! We had a lovely time, learnt a lot, and listened to some smashing talks. Melvin Bragg and Tracy Chevalier ( Author of Girl with a Pearl Earring) did keynote speeches. One of the best workshops was by Jean Fullerton, who features in this week’s book of the week.
Book of the Week – Wedding Bells for Nurse Connie is by the talented author Jean Fullerton. The 1940s were not an easy time for a midwife! But as a former district nurse, Jean writes convincingly and authentically about the ups and downs of nurse Millie and nurse Connie in that era. Great audiobooks too. Go to read my book of the week blog to find out more, on my website here.
There’s an extra helping too as one of my fellow authors, Ed Davey has a new thriller out too!
Patchy Update and Bouquet of the Week
Quick Patchy update, mainly because she came and sat next to this week’s bouquet from the garden! She slumped down on the ground as soon as she sits, so she is struggling a bit. But she isn’t any worse this week so that’s a good thing. Thank you for all your kind wishes. Her tummy is still rock hard with whatever the fluid retention is inside her belly, the vets do think it’s something not quite right but she is very old. I will keep you informed.
Tea Room Time If you are a regular you will know how much I love tea rooms. I have found a new favourite called the ‘Dabbling Duck’ in Shere, near where I live. They do the most wonderful teas. And healthy salads too :-). One day maybe I will run a tea rooms. It will have to have gluten-free and macrobiotic choices though ha ha.
Jay Manual Magic Had a lovely show with the expert makeup artist, celeb and all-round nice guy, Jay Manuel, from America’s Next Top Model. His range had almost a clean sweep of sell outs, so I’m looking fwd to reading your reviews. Any thoughts? The Best thing about QVC is, no matter what our lighting is like or your television settings, you get the chance to try it yourself with QVC’s 30 day money back guarantee :-). What’s left of the range, you can find here, worth going on waitlist for!
Wisp her… Talking of clean sweeps.. The fab new Wisp sweeper is great for dog hair. MDD are getting some as their office carpets are regularly covered in hair as u can imagine! Here’s the inimitable Phil Parker showing why it’s worth getting to cut to me for a cleaner home with pets!
Back to School for the Nieces It’s back to school or off to uni time for many, right? Best wishes to you if you’re either completely stressed out by it, or totally relieved the summer’s over! Lol. Good luck to my nieces Lara and Izzy on their first day at their new school – am a very proud auntie. I recall what it was like when mine took a pic like that, around twenty years ago!
Gut Reaction I know I keep on about it, but if you haven’t realised already there’s a bit of a revolution going on in health atm, which is making people realise how important the gut is. In my book Till the Fat Lady Slims 3.0 – Tips and Tales to Inspire there’s a big section (3.0 is the companion to book 2.0 which comes first) I first wrote about it over a year ago. Now we’re seeing more and more about it – or maybe it’s just ‘cos I’m looking out for it! Find out more here and also on my regular health blogs on my website here.
Finished it! Did you manage to get last week’s Elemis Biotec offer? I’ve just finished their BIOTEC day and night cream and love it.
Watch! – Well it’s only ten days away, so here’s a countdown type build-the-anticipation focus on the Bridget Jones’s Baby movie – first with a chat between Renee and co, then a chat with the two heroes (be still my beating heart!) Patrick Dempsey and Colin Firth! Can’t wait!
Blooper – What are you? Classic? Iconic or Avant – Garde?
Winner So the winner of last week’s NIOD competition is Suzy, Tracey Dewar and Julia Jenkins, all three winners have one of three £50 sets featuring some amazing discovery sizes of their iconic skincare. The big NIOD show is on Sunday the 18th with me at 3pm- with some fabulous deals! More info in next week’s blog.
What I’ve been wearing I have been wearing a pretty crystal dial detachable charm watch which is launching next week from love rocks. You can buy it now though. The same with all the poppy jewellery, here. And many of us have been wearing the little Breast Cancer Care pins which you can get here. This year we are raising funds this way, like we did last year so successfully for the poppy fund, instead of one big nights programming.
