Well I hope all’s well as usual, and you are getting lots of inspiration from The Q with your Christmas Shopping.
Last week, I was back at QVC France with the lovely Tina, our guest manager (who looks after an eye-watering 4,000+ guests appearing at various times on QVC UK).
As before, we were presenting two days of ‘Guest Excellence’ workshops, similar to ones we hold on a regular basis here.
We decided to travel on a Tuesday, thinking it would be quieter (as well as me not letting down Mr Andi Peters for our Monday show)!
However, an unfortunate oil spill affecting both the M4 and A4 meant both roads were closed for most of the day.
My cab arrived early, and we set off for the impressive St Pancras International Station to jump on the Eurostar to Paris.
Everything was going to plan, until we reached Richmond, where we sped along at the rate of one mile in one hour! Seriously, South West London was gridlocked.
I waited another 30 mins, moving a good 200 yards, and decided (with a rousing adventure movie score ringing in my ears) to rip off my shirt exposing a large red ‘S’ and grab my Heys Weekend Spinner travelling case in a single movement. I leapt gracefully from the stationary cab, running gazelle-like as fast as my finely-honed legs could propel me towards my only hope… yes, dear reader…Richmond station!
Like a scene from countless movies I ran, heart pounding, into the packed station, waving my credit card at the automated gates, probably paying for several other travellers’ journeys in the process.
Down a 20ft staircase in a single bound and onto the train to Earl’s Court I went.
This station had now taken on a new significance, it was my welcoming Middle Eastern stop over on the way to Australia, a gateway to a far off exotic destination… well St Pancras at least.
The train ambled along it’s well trodden path, dutifully stopping at every station, whilst I stared at the tube map above me, willing some of the names to evaporate and speed up my progress – Eventually we arrived at Abu Dhabi or was it Singapore? Down an escalator to the Spice Route, actually the Picadilly line to St Pancras/King’s Cross!
All this time I was being encouraged in my travelling adventures with texts from Tina saying ‘You’ll never make it’ and ‘You’re going to miss the Eurostar’ as I leapt into the open arms of the tube train, hoping St Pancras was Eastbound and not West! Quelle horreur mes amis!
Of course it was Eastbound! Wasn’t it? ‘Concentrate man!’ I said to myself as I scrutinised the list of stations above.
Eventually, I had reached my oasis in the desert, just off the Euston Road – I ran up the escalators and like a bad dream found I wasn’t making any progress! It was the down escalator! D’oh! (Actually I made that bit up)… stopping at the top only to catch my breath and check my credit card was still held in a vice like grip in my ‘Green Seasons sausage fingers’.
Now bursting out of the labyrinth of the London Underground network – my phone jumped to life ‘run Dale… run’ implored the mellifluous Tina, ‘I’m coming Tina’, ran through my head – but what actually seeped from my gasping jaws didn’t quite sound like that (think Darth Vader). I later explained to Tina that it was just a bad signal!
Anyway… I strode majestically into the station ticket office, shirt untucked and my Heys spinning by my side, to find Tina threatening to lay on the track in order to buy me some time – no need T! ‘Super D est arrivé’ in a triumph for rails against road – I had made it in time (just)! Voila!
The above account, whilst highly embroidered, is basically true.
Just call me Phileas Franklin.
Back on Planet Earth, I’m looking forward to the Jewellery Day this Friday and, in particular, two fabulous London-based brands: Links of London with Coral at 10pm and Lola Rose with founder Nikki at 11pm.
I love both these brands and I know many of you will be tuning in for a little Christmas inspiration – I hope you can join me for both shows.
On Monday at 7pm, I’ll be flying solo in Festive Food with Dale as ITV have grabbed Andi Peters and flown him off to the Australian jungle – I’ll be without his celebrity services, but certainly not alone, as we have a packed show lined up with many of your favourite gourmet food guests.
Finally on Tuesday at midnight I’ll be launching Wednesday’s Today’s Special Value from Price’s Candles!
A wonderful British brand enjoying the prestige of a Royal Warrant from Her Majesty The Queen. They make lovely gift ideas for loved ones, friends, teachers or even yourself!
The collection comprises three individually boxed gift sets, each containing three fragranced jars, plus 10 tea lights!
You have a choice of a wonderful festive box option with White Christmas, Winter Berries, and Pine, plus 10 Mixed Spice tea lights, or a fruity set comprising Fig, Melon and Pear with 10 Grapefruit tea lights, and a finally a Floral set comprising Honeysuckle, English Lavender and Apple Blossom with 10 White Rose Tea lights.
Looks like Price’s Candles have done us proud again this Christmas!
Toby’s paw seems as good as new now, and he’s running around freely with his little pal Ellie again – pictured here after a run.
I’ve been driving to a local park, which is flat and not covered in bracken, heather, twigs etc to aid Toby’s recovery – they love a car ride as well!
Until next time, stay bejewelled, illuminated and fragrant!
Au revoir mes amis!
