Summer breaks, fun with Toby and my lovely lilies

Dale with his mumDear all,

Thanks for your all of your comments on my post-holiday blog.

I hope you’re enjoying your summer – yes, the weather’s a little mixed but generally it’s OK, isn’t it?

I’m away from the Q for a few days this week – lots to do at home and the kids' dreaded exam results will be in. I know it seems that no sooner I’ve returned to work, I'm off again.

To a degree that’s true, I’ve only been back three weeks, but I had quite a bit of leave to use up and it seemed a good plan to take as much of it as I could whilst the weather was good (hopefully).

We popped down to West Sussex to see Mum and I cut the hedge in her back garden (eee's a good boy!).

Tracey took the picture above of Mum and I on the Prom – the number on my Polo shirt is not my age!!

Last week I was given some Pet Munchies for Toby to try. I thought it would be fun to produce a video of Toby choosing his favourite.

I enlisted the help of my daughter, Ali, and the resulting video was a pastiche of the brilliant Pathe style newsreels and public information films from the 40s and 50s.

The music and voiceovers from those days were priceless and no, I don’t remember them first hand!

My son, who had never seen those old newsreels, thought that my trousers had ridden up and just didn’t get the gag – I hope you do though.

Last week saw the launch on QVC of the fantastic Bamix of Switzerland kitchen blenders. I had the pleasure of presenting the show and the phones lit up from the word go.

We sold out early in a couple of the options, only to find that our buyers were frantically trying to get more stock, whilst I was actually on air. It was frenetic for all concerned, but luckily we were able to get more stock and so hopefully didn’t disappoint any customers.

Dale with his liliesDebbie Flint and I have learned that we are both down to present the Saturday Night Gifts shows again this year – we had a lot of fun with these shows last year and this years' series looks set to be just as good, if not even better!

More news on the shows as it becomes available…

I entered my photo for the Thompson & Morgan QVC presenter Lily Challenge – I’m glad I’m not the judge as all entries looked pretty good to me. I think the winner gets to name the bulbs,  I’ll let you know who wins as soon as.

Before you say anything – yes! I look and indeed was, half asleep and obviously forgot to put on my shoes!

Dale getting his haircutFinally, the ‘just for fun” photo comp – as you can see this was a picture I took of myself having my hair cut.

What amused me was that everytime I looked down at my legs, I saw the legs of the lady sitting opposite me (if that makes sense!), much to the amusement of Stacey the stylist.

‘Til next time, stay happy and well.
Dale x

The numbers on your shirt definitely aren’t your age, they are obviously the year you were born 😉

Right then …. ‘orf’ we go!!
I’m gonna start with ‘just for fun’ this time D. Well, it’s good to try a different position every now and then don’t ya think??!!
You are thinking (as per usual!) ‘Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest fox of all?’
And the magic mirror is saying:
“Silver Fox, you are a lush
Me thinks your ego I should crush
For how you flirt and tease with ease
I’m giving you some girly knees!”
Anyhow D, if you think it was funny for you seeing that ladies knees, just think how she must have felt looking at the bottom half of herself in your short shorts!!!
And ‘yes’ it has been noted that you’re on holiday AGAIN!! Lovely picture of you and your Mum. Your Mum really doesn’t look old enough to be your Mum and it’s obvious where you get those gorgeous silver locks from! And that Toby ……eee’s such a cutie. I think G has something to ask about his aerobics!! Go on G ….. don’t be shy now!! As if!!!!!!!!
Your lilies look like winners to me D. Can we name em 4U?? ‘Dale’s Devilish Dazzlers’ or Franklins Fabulilies!! I bet G’s got some suggestions … keep it clean G … and remember …. all comments are moderated!!
    Love and stuff

D, on reflection (BOOM BOOM!!), the mirror has more to say on the shatter ….. I mean matter!:
‘Girly knees, and legs to boot
    This ego-busting is a hoot
So quit those vain pretentious thoughts
And pleeeeeeeze quit wearing those short shorts”!!
    Anyone for verse three??!!!

I dunno D, yer just can’t get the staff!
“Your ‘Dad Dancing’ days will be in mourning
If you don’t heed this final warning
‘The Silver Fox’ will be a ‘has been’
And in his place, ‘A Dancing Queen'”!
That’s me definitely done ……… for now!

    Hi Dale,
You were trying to find out why Matinee necklaces were called that Well I Googled it and after a lot of searching, this was the best I could find, so hope it helps.
The word ‘Matinee’ is french in origin.
In English, it is used to describe shows, performances, and movies screened
between late morning and mid afternoon(see Wikipedia).
The name ‘Matinee Necklace’ gets its meaning from this term.
It’s easy to see that this style of necklace is intended to be multi-purpose:
Suitable for a mid-day event attended during work hours (for instance).
You were actually right and you didn’t know it lol!!!
Don’t let it go to those silver locks of yours
    Kind Wishes,
    Carole Ayre

Hi Dale, thank you for the fabulous blog – I was crying with laughter over the hysterical Pathe News clip – they used to have the same effect on me as a very young girl, much to the chagrin of my parents who took them very seriously. Finally, your Mum is so lovely. I too have a “bob haircut” but nothing like as abundant as your beautiful Mum’s. Love and thanks for setting me up for the day with such a heady dose of laughter. Penny. X

Tut, tut, tut D, that heading of yours should have read ‘Summer breaks, fun with Toby and my lovely Mum’.
    VERSE 4 MA:
On the contrary I do say
I vote them short shorts here to stay.
But that photo D I’m all confused
It’s doing me head in, I’m not amused.
Looks like your sitting on her lap
And Staceys about to give you a whack.
It’s spooky and I’m all bemused
But the good news is I love her shoes 🙂
Your Mum is very lovely Dale.
    p.s. Love the socks xx
