Baby It’s Cold Outside

Julia on the balconyLast week I took a few days off work so that my partner of 35 years, Chris, and I could celebrate our anniversary.

We went over to Spain and spent three days in Javea, where we used to have a house, and then moved down the coast to a beautiful hotel just to the south of a place called Villa Joyosa.

We had never been there before and we struggled a bit finding the hotel but our perseverance paid off as the setting was breathtaking.

It was perched high on a cliff overlooking two beaches, one of which is a nudist beach, although as you might imagine at this time of year, nobody was on the beach at all, let alone au natural.

The nudist beach Sun on the sea

I can’t say we had wall-to-wall sunshine, but we were able to go for walks along the beachfront and sit in the sun, wearing Decleor factor 30, when we found a sheltered spot out of the wind. It was also pleasant to just sit and read in the lounge area taking full advantage of the view through the full length glass windows.

Although at one point it rained so heavily that the hotel staff had to mop up the rain that seeped in using towels! Apparently Julio Iglesias and the King and Queen of Spain have stayed at the hotel – at least that is what it said on the photos in the reception area.

Hotel receptionOne of my favourite areas was the heated indoor swimming pool. It wasn’t massive, but it was a decent size to swim my one hundred lengths in and it was as warm as a bath.

It also had lots of Jacuzzi jets and fountains to play in once I had done the hard work, and the best bit was that it was a salt water pool rather than chlorine so it didn’t make my eyes smart and my hair smell.

Three days wasn’t really enough time to unwind particularly as we kept hearing about the flight delays and cancellations due to the snow in the UK, so we were concerned whether we would be able to get back.

A snowy welcome home!As it turned out our Monarch flight into Gatwick was on time, give or take ten minutes, and it gave us a great bird’s eye view of the snowscape beneath as we came into land. I was very thankful for my EMU boots and Dennis Basso furry coat as we de-snowed the car in the car park.

I hope you have all kept safe and warm in the arctic conditions and that the weather doesn’t spoil your travel plans if you are heading to the Beauty Bash over the next couple of days. I am there all day Wednesday so please come up and say hello if you are too.

I’m back on air on Thursday at 4pm for ‘Fabulous at 40 and Beyond’, and I might just have a few clips of the Beauty Bash to share with you. Then Dale and I are presenting a new show called ‘Inside QVC’ at 5pm – a kind of guided tour of all QVC has to offer. Hope to see you there.

Much love

Julia xx

Hi Julia, Glad you enjoyed your break in Spain and Congratulations to you and Chris.35 years is certainly an achievment worth celebrating. Its 30 years this year since I met my hubby and next year 30 years married. I’m a big fan of Spain and love to hear about recommendations of places that are worth a visit. We haven’t been to that part of the country but had heard it was nice. This time last year we were in the Costa del Sol. We had mixed weather but generally warm on the whole.
I bet it was just a bit chilly when you arrived back home. In our part of Yorkshire (East) we’ve been very lucky and not had a lot of snow.
Looking forward to seeing you back on air tomorrow.
    Love Denise

Hi Julia Sounds like you had a fantastic holiday. Looks great from your pics. How does Chris put up with you for that long??!!! Only joking he is a very lucky man.
Looks like Palace are about to lose Zaha to Man U but at least it is a large amount of money Palace appear to be getting.
Hope you are not feeling the cold too much after your holiday

It was so lovely having the chance to chat to you at the Beauty Bash yesterday. I love that event so much, there’s such a buzz about it. Really lovely seeing Keeley again as well, she’s such a doll. And how funny was it when that customer just came up and took one of my buns from the box!! Classic!!
Hope you’re feeling a bit better. You looked lovely in that blue dress tonight. I just caught the tail end (careful!!) of the show with Dale as I got in from work tonight.
Lots of love and speak soon.

Hello Julia, I am so glad to hear you had a lovely trip to spain… i hope you also got a very large gemstone after being with Chris for 35 years together. Maybe that hotel would be a perfect location for a wedding? After all its good enough for the Queen of spain, its good enough for the Queen of QVC. I love watching you on QVC, even though you are not around as much these days, but I understand its because of the book, which i cannot wait to get, hopefully signed through QVC (hint hint)…
    Much love as always

    Hi Martin
Normally I would agree with you about January seeming to be a long month, but this January seems to have gone very quickly. It will be February on Friday!
Daniel is doing really well at the CPFC Academy – he has just been appointed manager of the U10’s – he deserves it, he works so hard. Sophie will have been in her flat a year in February – can hardly believe it. She just got a promotion at work too.
I think you will enjoy my book when it comes out as there are a few stories about Daniel and Sophie in it.

    Hi Denise
Thanks for the congratulations for Chris and I – he is a very patient man!
You should try the Costa Blanca – Javea and Moraira are both very pretty. I wasn’t so keen on Vila Joyosa itself but there is a lovely beach and promenade and I was impressed with the Hotel Montiboli.
It was FREEZING when we got back but at least the snow as gone from here for now

    Hello Steven
I think you were right the first time!!!
Well Wilfy has signed for Man Utd. – I am sad for Palace but happy for him – he really is an extraordinary talent and worth the 15 million price tag, and at least we have him until the end of the season! My son Daniel is hoping that we might sign Albert Adomah from Bristol City ……. we already had Bolasie off them and he is looking really good.
Are Rangers still in the cup comps?

Thanks for the compliment re the blue dress – I liked the colour on me so maybe I need to go shopping?
I do miss Keeley but at least she comes over regularly – hoping to return the compliment fairly soon.

    Hi Jean
I’m not as fit as I would like to be, but I am trying and I find swimming and Pilates definitely are my preferred methods of exercising along with a good walk!
I missed most of the snow so didn’t need to use my Wintertrax but my daughter Sophie was tweeting about how fab hers are – apparently she was running down the hill to the station when all about her were slipping and sliding. They are worth their weight in gold.
I like that part of Spain with the rugged coastline reminiscent of Cornwall.

    Hi Ginny
Obviously I was having a ‘senior’ moment! We’ll work something out.
Barefoot Beach sounds just my cup of tea ….. Are there lots of shells on the beach in Naples like there are in Captiva? Even though it wasn’t that hot in Spain I still used my Decleor 30 on my face and 15 on my body. Got to really look after this ageing skin lol!
Chris had my diamond eternity ring repaired for me as my anniversary present – so happy to be able to wear it again. A friend of mine told me the 35th anniversary is ‘coral’ so maybe I can just give him a copy of my book as I am wearing the coral outfit on the cover – what do you think? I’ll sign it for him lol! He took the photo that we have used on the back cover …… I’m really proud of him.

    Hi Julia
Yeah I have heard of Adomah. He would be a good replacement. Would be fitting if Zaha could score the goals to take Palace up before he departs.
We are out of the League Cup but St Mirren beat Celtic in the semi finals yesterday which always helps to put a smile on my face. You really shouldnt laugh at others misfortune but oh how I did lol.
We play Dundee Utd in the Scottish Cup this weekend. I dont know if you heard about that? The Rangers fans are boycotting the game after the way we feel we were treated over the summer so there will hardly be any of our fans there. Hopefully the boys can still pulll off an upset. I think its on sky too. Are you working this weekend? We only drew at home to the mighty Montrose on Saturday – lost a last minute screamer but hopefully we shall be able to raise our game for the grudge match on Saturday

    Hi Julia
Where has the time gone? Anniversaries upon us, which seems like 5 minutes ago. Soooo pleased to hear that you and Chris managed to get away from it all to Spain for your Anniversary and that Chris got your eternity ring mended so you can wear it again…did you know, or was it a surprise?
I have so noticed the photo of the nudist beach, would you have been so bold had the beach been full of bodies and things, I ask myself and the answer would probably be yes, because that would be the Gemini tinker in you and you would probably be giggling behind your sunglasses lol!
I could have done with your WinterTrax, Chris has gone and lost ours and we didn’t even get them out of the box last year! Like many presenters and customers, I bought a few sets for stocking fillers last year, but never used them…we’ve searched high and low and they are not to be found, so I only went as far as the car and back in my trusty Skechers. Eventually giving in to buying another set and I bet the others will turn up now, knowing my luck!
I see that our old (not in that way) news reporter from the Midlands, Jackie Kabler is joining the team, it will be nice to see her in a different setting. Please wish her good luck from me for tomorrow and I’m looking forward to seeing you both then.
    Annette x
P.S. Chris bought me the ‘Hairy Dieters’ cook book and I have made their pies using a pizza base instead of pastry, which sounded very unusual and I thought they would end up in the bin. How wrong was I, they were scrummy and you don’t get that heavy pastry feeling afterwards. Even Chris liked them and he’s a real picky eater!

    Hi SJ
You made me laugh with your comment about me being the queen of QVC – does being the oldest female qualify me for that??
I didn’t get a big gemstone for my anniversary, but Chris did have my diamond eternity ring repaired which has been in my jewellery box broken for several years – really happy I can wear it again now.
Although I have been busy with my book I have still being doing all my shifts at QVC – I think as there are more Presenters now we all do fewer hours on air and more ‘behind the scenes’!
The book is at the printers as we speak, and I am signing the first 5000 copies next Thursday and Friday so I had better start limbering my wrist up!
    Hope you will enjoy it

    Hi Yvonne
Obviously having the surname Roberts causes one to have an affinity with Spain LOL!!
Initially I was a little disappointed with Vila Joyosa as it has more high rise apartment blocks on the beach than Javea but the pretty painted fisherman’s cottages gave it a very Spanish feel. Really liked the location of the Montiboli – I’m sure we will revisit!

    Hi Linda
We stayed in Calpe once when we were looking for a property to buy – we had a lovely long walk on the beach!
The only other time I have visited was when my brother in law wanted to see the pink flamingos on the salt lake and we were happy to oblige.

    Hello Doe
I’m afraid Chris is a little camera shy, although there will be a couple of pictures of him in my book ….. had to get his permission though!!
I took the photos with my new camera that the family bought me for Christmas …. except the one of me, which Chris took!
We sold our Spanish house last summer – it was just too big really after we had done all the building work to it. I haven’t ruled out getting something smaller as I do like the relaxed pace of life there.

    Hi Steven
Yes I’m working this weekend so won’t see the game – kind of sorry for your players if there is no support, but I suppose you guys want to prove a point.
Palace are playing tonight and currently trailing by a goal at Huddersfield – we have been on a poor run ever since Wilfy’s England call-up. Hope he and the team can regain their form soon and still make it into the play-offs.

    Hi Annette
Found your other Wintertrax yet? I bet you will, it’s always the way! Not much snow on the way at the moment but boy is it windy and rainy tonight.
I am in at QVC tomorrow so will probably see Jackie – nice to see some new faces don’t you think.
Yes I did know about the eternity ring – my idea really but he went and fetched it – good to have it on show again.
I also had a cookery book for Christmas – Simon Rimmer – the recipes look good but haven’t tried any yet! Also might try and get hold of ‘Plenty’ – Lesley Blodgett of Bare Minerals fame has been tweeting about it.
