Autumn, mini breaks and more…

In the pubHi all!

Another couple of weeks have flown by… is it me, or does time seem to simply gallop along at this time of year? I do love autumn though, and my driveway and garden are now completely covered with lovely crunchy brown and yellow leaves.

One of these days I'm going to get out there and start clearing, but there never seems much point, does there, until they've all come down? Slightly worryingly, my local supermarket has suddenly started displaying sledges and snow shovels in a very prominent position – do they know something we don't about the weather for the coming weeks? Eek!

The rainy terraceAnyway, before the craziness of Christmas arrives, hubby and I slipped off for one night away. We booked into a gorgeous riverside B&B which is attached to a pub called the Red Lion Freehouse in a little village by the River Avon in Wiltshire. We had a few glasses of fizz (pictured above), which brightened up a cold wet night rather nicely, and then a rather fabulous dinner.

The food in the pub was fantastic (my hubby, who's a superb chef himself, raved about the celeriac soup, and the local beef was divine too). The starter and main courses were so delicious and generous, in fact, that I couldn't even manage dessert, which is highly unusual for me as you'll know if you've watched any of my kitchen shows…I do love my food!

We tried to sit on the terrace outside our room the next morning to enjoy the river views with a cuppa but were beaten by the weather, so we might have to go back in the spring! (pictured above left) Anyway, highly recommended if you fancy a night in the country. Hubby and I spend a lot of time apart because of work so it was so lovely to chill out and just be together somewhere peaceful.

Before RevitalashBeauty fans, I also HAVE to recommend a product I'd never heard of until I joined QVC but now am totally addicted to – Revitalash! Coming from a scientific background, I'm always quite sceptical about beauty products and the results they can have until I see them with my own eyes. In this case, I can see the results ON my own eyes!

Take a look at these pictures, taken six weeks apart. My eyelashes were so short and stubby in the picture on the left… now (below) they have been transformed! The side view is even more impressive – they are so long and fabulous now that I barely need mascara. Seriously impressed.

After Revitalash I After Revitalash II

I can't believe it's almost a year since I made the major decision to leave a 20 year career in TV news and join the nation's favourite shopping channel. I'm so glad I did, I love it! And to celebrate I'm going to run a little competition in a few weeks time, so look out for that here on my blogs and on my Twitter account @jackiekabler. I'll be giving away a nice little bundle of goodies!

Have a fabulous week!

Love Jackie x

    Hi Jackie,
Lovely to hear that you’ve had a really nice, short break with your hubby. It sounds really idyllic and as you say, you may need to return there in the Spring!
Before you joined QVC, I think I remember you mainly from GMTV. You were always so professional and now on QVC, you bring that too but your warm and fun personality really comes through on the screen. You are an asset at QVC and I hope you stay for a long time!
    Best wishes,
    Beth XX.

    Hi Jackie,
Yes the time does slip by so fast, I guess we all have busy lives, and that time beginning with a ‘C’ is getting very near.
You mentioned the leaves on the lawn, my daughter Heidi and myself spent the best part of two hours last Saturday clearing up the leaves, we only intended doing a bit and that led to a whole lot more. Yes there is plenty more on the lawn again but at least we have got most of them cleared. The lawn was so wet underneath them. Did have the help from a couple of our dogs, hindrance is more like it.
Glad you enjoyed your night away, it must have been nice for you both as you do not see much of each other because of work. It sounds a super place and also the food. You will have to go back in the Spring as you suggested and make it a weekend. Think of all that lovely food.
I have seen the Revitalash being used on QVC and yes what a difference it has made to your lashes.
Cannot believe you have been with QVC nearly a year now.
Did you get your sledge from Tesco? It will be nice to have a nice dry crisp winter, maybe a little snow. Certainly do not want it dull and wet, so depressing.
    Take Care

    Hi Beth
What a lovely thing to say, thank you so much! I’m really loving it at QVC, it’s so different from what I’ve done before but it’s brilliant! Thanks for getting in touch.

    Hi Jean,
No I didn’t get my sledge but maybe I should have…..can you believe I have never gone sledging in my life?! If there’s snow this winter I might have to put that right! Well done with your leaf clearing, I might attack mine on Sunday. Take care and keep in touch.

    Hi Jackie,
So glad you decided to move to QVC! I remember seeing you on GMTV and always admired your hairstyle/fashion. Despite you reporting outdoors, you were always very smart.
Like you, I love the Autumn with all the rust and golden yellow leaves scattered all around. One good thing is the garden doesn’t need as much attention at the moment, apart from collecting the leaves!
Perhaps your next visit to the Red Lion will be under a carpet of snow, which would be lovely.
I must invest in Revitalash to see if it will improve my short eyelashes!
    Best wishes

    Hi Irene,
Yes I seemed to be outside all the time at GMTV, and it was the same after that when I worked for ITV and BBC news. This winter will be the first time in 20 years that I will be inside in a nice warm studio most days, and I can’t wait! No more thermal underwear!
Lovely to hear from you, keep in touch!

    Hi Jackie ,
Glad you got to have a lovely break with your husband.
It’s nice to be able to get away to relax before the rush of Christmas starts.
Wow nearly a year already. Where does the time go ? You know what, even though I was used to seeing you on GMTV for all those years it just seems like you are at QVC for much longer….I think its cause you became part of the team so easily and you are so professional Jackie !
Oh my gosh i love revitalash and revitabrow ! My brows were all patchy because of medication and i lost most of my eyelashes due to the meds too.
But these two are miracle workers. I’m using both of these over a year and i cannot recommend these products enough.
You have a great week Jackie and I’ll keep in touch.
    Love Sam (Dublin)xxx

    Hi Sam,
I haven’t tried the brow Revitalash yet but that will be next on my list as I have to draw mine in a bit now thanks to over plucking over the years! It’s one of the things I love most about QVC, discovering these fantastic products and trying them out. Great to hear from you, hope Dublin is well!
    Love Jackie x
