Aussie Rules!

Team shot in front of the Sydney Opera HouseFirstly apologies for not posting the promised photos of Sophie's trip to Australia sooner. I was away last week and only had my 'baby netbook' with me, which didn't have the pictures loaded onto it – schoolgirl error!!

The first one is a picture of Sophie and the group she met up with for her 'Intro to Oz' week, with the iconic Sydney landmarks of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background.

If any of you have any offspring planning on a trip to Australia in the future, this 'intro week' is a really good idea, as they are shown around the sightseeing spots en masse and they also meet fellow solo travellers who they can then team up with if they want to explore a bit further afield, which is what Sophie did.

Sophie by the beach on a rainy dayThe second photo was from week two when Sophie and two other girls travelled up the Gold Coast. Gorgeous beach, but totally deserted because of the rain, which unfortunately Sophie was plagued with for most of her holiday.

There was quite extensive flooding the day she left Surfer's Paradise to return to Sydney to visit with her cousins, one of whom took the final two photos.

Sophie has always been a fan of the television show 'Bondi Rescue', so on her list of things to do was a visit to Bondi Beach. She managed this on the last day of her holiday, on her way to the airport, courtesy of her cousin James.

Sophie on Bondi BeachThe first picture is pretty good but the second one, where Sophie had managed to persuade a lifeguard to pose with her, is obscured by James's finger! We have all done this I'm sure, BUT James is a film editor and Indie film producer / director… you would think he could have managed to keep his digits out of the shot!

So if you ever see an 'indie' film whose trademark in all the scenes is a thumb or finger in the shot, it was probably the work of 'cousin James' LOL!!!!!

Incidentally, anyone else think the lifeguard bears a striking resemblance to Man Utd and England footballer Wayne Rooney? And did you get the joke?… 'striking' resemblance!

Sophie with the lifeguard on Bondi BeachTalking of movies, I see 'The Cold Light of Day', starring Bruce Willis, is out on general release tomorrow. This was the movie I mentioned in a blog ages ago, where they shot some of the action in the bay beneath my house in Spain.

I will definitely be going to see it and hopefully will not see myself in a mauve sun dress peering down at them filming through binoculars. Maybe I should go and see it with the family as an Easter treat, as I am not working this weekend.

Hope you have some great plans lined up for Easter, including a bit of QVC shopping. Speak soon, Julia xxx

Lovely blog and lovely photos-Sophie was so brave to go alone and so far,and has reaped the rewards.I bet she returned a different person for the experience. I have enjoyed reading about Australia from you and Alison—you any plans to go there next, Julia????? Is THE book finished? What is the title? Your choice or have you been ‘persuaded’ to change the title from the original, as so often happens? Happy Easter to you and the family. Love K.XXX

    Hi Julia
Lovely photos of Sophie’s trip to Australia. I think she was so brave going on her own. My nephew (Steven) took a year out of Uni to go there a few years ago and has never come back! He settled in Queensland and absolutely loves it. A funny story on that note. My mum (who is 83 and easily confused, bless) said Steven had phoned her recently and told her to stop sending him the £10 ‘s she sends him every now and again. He said, because it’s only a small amount, they take most of it off him out there! My mum was horrified and didn’t understand that he was, of course, talking about the exchange rate! Steven did say to her that it was ok if she wanted to send him a lot of money all at once though cos it would be worth it then! He was only joking Julia, he’s a lovely lad.
I’m dying to know how you got on with that Elemis eye serum if you’re able to say on here, I’d love to hear. I currently use Absolute Eye Serum which I love but Keeley seemed to suggest the new one might suit me better. I don’t really suffer with dark circles and puffiness but I love the firming/smoothing results from Absolute. I told Keeley yesterday on her Facebook page that they should do a super size Elemis Egg filled with Bliss Capsules for next Easter! What do you think? I’ve already told Chris to start saving just in case she takes me up on it!
You won’t be surprised to hear that I have indeed been shopping on The Q this weekend. Got the No No TSV yesterday and the Ultrasun Try Me today. I’m running a bit low on Face 30 and have been wondering whether to step up to 50 for the summer so this will give me a chance to try it before next months Beauty product of the month won’t it!!! (I heard Ali Young blab about it a few weeks ago!).

    Hello K,
Glad you enjoyed my blog and Sophie’s pictures. She tells me there are some better pictures on Facebook, but I don’t ‘do’ Facebook, so I wouldn’t know!
She is very keen to return to Australia, maybe to work next time. If she does go fo a longer period I would definitely take the opportunity to visit her!
My book is two chapters away from being finished. If I self publish it will stay as ‘One Hundred Lengths of the Pool’, which I would prefer.
I have just started to look through photos for it – that is a long but pleasurable process.
    I’ll keep you posted
    Julia x

    Hello SJ,
Thanks for your kind comments about my crafting skills improving – I fear it is only marginal!
Stephanie is lovely to work with, and I am genuinely pleased to see her back on QVC.
Hope you had a lovely Easter too
    Julia x

Julia , hope you are enjoying the Jubilee weekend, and the good weather, whatever little green number you were wearing last night has certainly got the lads that work in our office chattering, I thought it was Julia Roberts the movie star they were on about, although it has made me aware of QVC as i had to check out this “vision” they were going on about, as they said she was on QVC, Could you wear the same frock again please as i need to get one of these seeing as it has such an effect on the men lol, I will watch QVC from now on , i dont know how i never came across it before,
