August Fashion Month Trends: Week One – Dusky Tones

Welcome to QVC Fashion Month! Every week will focus on a current trend or QVC brand and first up on week one is Dusky Tones – those cooler-pastel shades perfect for grown-ups. From fashion, to accessories and jewellery, read on to discover how to wear these shades of the season.

Rose pink, Georgian blue and dove grey; mixed together they create a palette made for long summer evenings, but paired with bolder tones like copper, black and navy blue these muted shades will take your wardrobe right through every season. And that’s a key point with these tones; they’re not ice cold pastels that suit winter dressing, nor are they the Easter-bonnet brights favoured in spring, these unique shades are totally trans-seasonal. Simply layer over darker blues, pinks and purples, or pair with metallics to create stunning, outfits and silhouettes, in a mix of textures that will only serve to enhance these shades.

There are various ways to wear dusky tones, choose pieces in a single shade but in a mix of different textures to create a stylish daytime look. Pair dusky-blue suede accessories, with a thick knitted jumper in the same tone, then add a navy blue denim skirt and a crisp white blouse to bring the whole look together.

For more sophisticated looks, opt for one (a dress) or two (top and jacket) pieces in dusky lilac or rose pink shades and team them with neutral shades of taupe, black or white. Add luxurious leather accessories, rose-gold jewellery and metallic nail varnish to finish off.

We’ve pulled together three looks created solely from pieces available at QVC to showcase how to wear dusky tones – tell us which is your favourite.

Power pinks

Clockwise from top left: This pale H by Halston drape collar jacket looks great layered over the Lisa Rina Collection dip-dye top, which showcases all the shades of dusky pink. Add these Diane Gilman Flexstretch skinny jeans in white for a crisp element, then simply accessorise with the Tignanello Bowery tote in Peach Saffiano leather, and a pair of enamel and gold-plated Orla Kiely earrings in Pink. Depending on the occasion, finish off with either these on-trend metallic flats from Italian brand Easy’n Rose or a chic low-heeled sandal like this Sharna Balcony pair from Clarks.

Bold blues

Team this stylish navy blue Nina Leonard jumpsuit with this Easy jacket from Antthony Designs to create the base for your dusky blues, night-out look. This basket-textured clutch in Mist from Lulu Guinness is the perfect shade for the season, and these metallic cross-over strap wedges in Cream from Easy’n Rose will ensure you can carry this look off, all night. Add subtle rose-gold jewellery, like these pink morganite earrings and Bronzo Italia popcorn bracelet then finish off with a décolletage-accenting layered necklace from Lisa Snowdon.

Hints of dusk

Dusky tones fashion and accessories
For a truly trans-seasonal look, keep your separates pale and in similar tones. Team this semi-sheer floaty tunic from Join Clothes (in either Ecru or Light Grey) with a pair of cropped Flatter Fit trousers from MarlaWynne in Sand to form the base of your look, then accent with pieces in a mix of dusky tones. Throw the Lulu Guinness Lips print leather handbag in Mist over your shoulder and echo the tone with these on-trend Bitsy suede ankle boots in a darker Blue, from Peter Kaiser. Add dusky pinks, with this Radley Cherry Blossom print scarf and these rose gold-plated and crystal cross earrings – which will also add subtle sparkle – and finally buckle on the Kalahari Python watch from Lola Rose – a practical way to add dusky tones to your look. Perfect for warmer days, this outfit will look fantastic as the weather cools down if you throw on a leather jacket – go classic with a black biker or continue the dusky tones trend through your whole look and cover up with this Dennis Basso faux-leather jacket in blush.
