That time of year is once again upon us and no, I’m not talking wedding season (that’s a whole different blog post), I am referring to camping out, drinking from plastic cups, dancing to tunes on grassy fields; it’s time to get your festival wardrobe sorted.
You may be off to a music event, a foodie gathering or a literary affair, whatever the theme, festivals have come a long way from wellies and muddy camps. Now what you wear matters; how you dress is captured on social media, shared for all to see and emulate. But it doesn’t have to be stressful, outfit planning can be simple – let your accessories do the talking. Take a cute sun dress or a t-shirt and jeans combo and style up with sunnies, cross-body bag and summer boots. All you need is a bit of sun…
My go-to this summer are these Bronx boots. LOVE them. Seriously, you won’t regret adding these to your new season shopping list. And given we live in a country with highly unpredictable weather, remember boots aren’t just for winter. Plus, on a practical note (and from personal experience), sandals won’t cut it in the queue for beers (or fizz, depending on how fancy your festival is!!) These will look incredible with a floaty dress, denim shorts, jeans or even a jumpsuit. I may even purchase a pair in all four colours. Don’t tell my hubby!
As most of you know from my show, Accessorise with Ashling, I’m pretty partial to a cross-body bag. And when it comes to a festival, there is no better bag, well, apart from a backpack which QVC also has many of. Amanda Lamb has a fabulous collection featuring this yellow zip-top bag pictured above – divine colour and ridiculously practical with loads of storage for all your essentials, like lippie and er… loo roll! It’s so smart, you’ll be taking it straight from the gig to the office. In fact, you need to check out everything this super lady has to offer for all your mini-breaks, getaways and travels.
Sunglasses, such as this pair above which have unfortunately sold out, are an essential part to my style arsenal. What can I say? They look good, but they also hide those late nights. Thankfully we have many to choose from here. Storm and Ruby Rocks come out top in the fashion stakes, especially if you’re after that catwalk/celebrity look. They’re big, bold and even if you’re just wearing a cami top and shorts, they will instantly elevate your outfit.
Finishing touches shouldn’t be forgotten. So look to the gorgeous jewellery range from Lisa Snowdon. Obsessed? Yes, I am. I’m wearing the ‘I See You’ diamond and turquoise necklace – a great piece to layer with other necklaces and her stacked rings are incredibly pretty. Floppy hats, trilbys and floaty scarves from Pia Rossini are ideal for covering up from the sun (fingers crossed) or keeping warm as the night draws in.
And finally, my nails. I can’t be without my bright polish and Essie has come up trumps with these vibrant shades aptly named ‘Dress Call’, ‘The It Factor’ and ‘Rock The Runway’. There may not be a runway, but you’re definitely ready to rock the festival.
